There is a ride like this in Wisconsin Dells, WI (USA). There’s different ride packages that you can buy (basically longer length rides and how many flips you do). The one in the Dells is a two seater! I rode it about three years ago with my son. I think it’s called “RoboCoaster” or similar.
Anyway it’s built on a platform with a cage around it. The platform is high enough that the arm couldn’t possibly scrape you on the ground. The cage keeps idiots out while it’s in operation.

I’ve been in one of those in Legoland (Denmark), you can even select which moves you want it to make and how fast you want it to go. Great fun.
