Notice all the federal copyright stuff at the front? The joker who posted it on youtube didn’t :O

    This was….

Umm…I’m having trouble coming up with the word that stands for “Really good, but it’s kinda weird, given how it’s Salvador Dali’s art to begin with, and creepy at the same time”.

Just beautiful. Too bad it will be removed from YouTube within a few weeks.

It’s things like that that make http://keepvid.com/ very useful.

I’ve seen the original storyboard panels for Destino. Seeing it animated like this was pretty cool.

    That was just….wow.

You know it’s funny we don’t really see this kind of animation any more.
Stuff like Fantasia (spelling) Full length movie type of weirdness, and yet worth a look.

    That’s pretty amazing, I couldn’t stop watching.

As a huge fan of old and quality animation, I hafta say this had potential, but it didn’t deliver at all. The fade-fade-fade-fade-fade-fade style of what they try to call “animation” that appeared sporadically was annoying, distracting, and a cheap way to avoid paying animators to do a proper job. It just pissed me off.

Now and then the style of drawing seen in The Little Mermaid would show up then subside. Not a good contrast with the old style. It clashed for me.

So I’d give this a 3 out of 5 stars. It could have been great. Parts verged on it, but just when I was ready to like it, it would pee in my face.

Having seen this screened at the MoMa last year, This is only part of the film. From my understanding Disney used Dali’s conceptual art and paintings. Disney had signed a Contract with Dali that gave Disney ownership of all Dali’s artwork for this, upon the film’s completion. The artwork today is valued at around 30 million.

“Twenty two paintings and 135 story sketches into the project, Dali was asked to abandon Destino as the package pictures of the 40s proved financially unsuccessful. It lay dormant for 57 years until Walt’s nephew and executive producer, Roy E. Disney instructed producer Baker Bloodworth and director Dominique Monfery to complete Dali’s short.” -THE DESTINY OF DALI’S DESTINO

I doubt Destino is the version Dali would have originally wanted (they used computer animation) being that it was “finished” many years after his death. I’m not satisfied that the film lived up to its potential. It wasn’t done as well as it deserved to be as Darrell above pointed out, and its kind of unfortunate. but hey Disney is $30,000,000 richer.
