The churches were even peaching 1914 as the end, not just JW’s. It was only realised, with the benefit of advances in translation and history, that 1914 was actually the date Christ was enthroned in heaven as king of God’s Kingdom, which after a period of time would bring Armageddon.
Scott, you’re a good honest person and a Christian (or at least I believe you are), and even drag your kids along to church. It’s the same Bible, and your own religion could be just as slandered by such a cartoon by atheists and so forth. It’s better that we all get along than actually spend time and effort hating on other people.
Kroc Camen: Why do people from the US equate religious (preferably christian) people as being good and honest? Is that the best measuring stock you could find for goodness? Here’s a thought. If the US values christianity and it’s values so highly, who then do americans seem to totally disregard the fifth commandment? Hell, even the recent war in Iraq alone has just shy of 100.000 civilian casualties. I mean “You shall not kill” can’t really be that hard to interpret can it?

I’m a former JW myself, and I can honestly say that the above video was a heavily spin-doctored, heavily simplified version of JW teachings (at least as far as I can remember, it’s been 20+ years for me), and poorly executed at that. There are good JWs that live in the spirit of the teachings of the Bible as they understand it, and there are arrogant “we’re the only ones who know what God really wants” JWs that should be beaten with old shoes for their pompousness. Same goes for Catholics, Protestants, Lutherans, and any other religion you can name out there (from my experience, anyway), Christian or otherwise. That’s why I’ve chosen to ignore organized religion as a whole.
I will say this, though: respecting your fellow man, regardless of his “sins” or his religious viewpoint, is easily the most important thing any single person can ever do to help create a better world for us and our children.
Oh you silly Christians and your propaganda films. It astounds me that these are the people we keep electing to office. What we need is some Muslims, more Jews and a hell of a lot of Buddhists, Shintos (Whoo, best religion!) Hindis and Pagans and then we can broker some tolerance and peace.

Seems I misunderstood you Kroc, and I apologize. Still, the point stands though. How can a country put so much emphasis on being christian and yet still gather such a massive support of killing people?
I think we can all agree that Chrisitan is synonomous with Facist. The Big Three or the Abrahamics (Chrisitanity, Islam and Judiaism) are about scary language used to control the world. All three of them started out monolatristic (there be more than one god but we worships only one of them) to montheistic over the course of two verses and nobody is at all staggered. Here’s what you do, read greek myth, the agnostic manifesto, the Vedas and the tales of the Shinto pantheon and find you a nice pagan religion. We were here first, we ran the earth quite nicely before those other folks took over (notice how all their stories start out in Eden…that’s the product of nature-worshiper management) and we will be here long long long after they are gone. See the truth, screw YHWH/Lordy-pants/Allah and convert now before you waste any more of your precious time. Ok, done with the soapbox, who wants it now?
