Every now and then some Hollywood actor steps up to a microphone and pronounces that he or she is quitting acting. Two weeks later that same actor will, invariably, sign up for a whole host of new projects. Yet for some reason, I’m more inclined to believe it when it comes to Viggo Mortensen
who, normally, doesn’t take his job lightly.
This is kinda nutty. I love Viggo. Read the rest.

I say props to him… he’s obviously burned out, and rather than taking more roles and phoning it in just to get a paycheck and stay in the public consciousness, he’s taking a break. Besides, I’m sure he has enough in residuals coming in from Lord of The Rings–the films, and the associated video games–to help support himself anyway.
Maybe he’ll become a Senator or Presidential candidate…. or worse, an enviromental activist.
If you ever have the chance, watch some of the behind the scene features on the LOTR Extended discs. You get to see this guy – Viggo – who is more than just an actor. I know it sounds weird coming from one of us, but … he’s a poet, photographer, fisherman… I think one of the hobbits called him a renaissance man or … something like that!
Yep. Not just the guy in charge of the torpedo bay either.
but is he becoming a hip hop singer?
Viggo could get the I-Am-TPain app for his Iphone…
When I visit America one day in the undetermined future, I want to go through the back ways when I travel. I hope to stop at a dingy diner in the middle of nowhere and sit at a table, only to be asked what I’d like to order by a ruggedly unshaven Viggo; wearing a french maid outfit and the Aragorn sword. That is MY American dream.
Viggo Live! You can see him on the strip in Vegas as well as hosting his daytime talk show!
Is it just me, or did the actual article not say he is quitting at all. I read it as he is just not sure what lies ahead. He isnt rushing into anything after The Road. His extensive and excessive travel for movies has been detrimental (spelling?) to his health and happiness. Understandable he would want some time off. Unless I missed something, he never said outright that he is quitting.
Yeah, I think that the article title is a bit sensationalistic. The exact quote:
“I have no plans to do another movie. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m open to seeing how I feel in a while, but right now I’m not saying yes to anything. My agent is like, ‘Well, if you don’t do anything, people will forget about you…’ I just feel like I’ve taken on too much for a while.”
That doesn’t say anything about quitting, just that he doesn’t have anything going and he is okay with that.
I would also just add that Viggo has always struck me as one of the guys who does it for the love of the art, not the money. If his hear isnt in it anymore, then maybe its a good time to hang it up. For awhile. I cant imagine anything worse than a “phoned-in” (to quote a great source) performance of Aragorn.
*heart
lies … it tells us.
it wants the preciouss all for itself
but it can’t
it’s miiiine …
But, but, but… he was signed to play Lobo
Good luck to Viggo. I loved him in Eastern Promises.
