This sequel has Master Chief return to “finish the fight”, as the Covenant have apparently taken over planet Earth and have to be wiped out. Bungie already has this game up and running for test sessions, and word has it that the multiplayer will be unmatched compared to other games. How unmatched, you ask? Rumor has it that Bungie is shooting around the area of 32 or even 64 players on a map at one time, which could lead to a colossal war the likes of which console owners have never experienced.

Oh Scott, when will you learn. Nothing that any console does is “Unprecedented”. 64 player games have been around for quite a while on a PC (the good gaming platform). If you want a research guy for your blog, feel free to ask me.
Actually, you assume I wrote the bit. thomej would be the one to talk to.
Each article has the author listed below it.
This could lead to some very big lag issues unless microsoft makes some dedicated servers or let the players use the xbox 360 as a dedicated server. Peer to peer would just not work with this.
When is this coming out, by the way?
@HeadJam
First off, the paragraph is a quote from the article, so don’t blame thomej or Scott. Secondly, it specifically mentions that this is unprecedented for console gamers (NOT PC):
“could lead to a colossal war the likes of which console owners have never experienced”
@ChrisS
I think the latest date is March 2007.
Aww man, it was already difficult enough to sneak past 31 players, now I have to sneak past 63???
What, your own team hates you too?
jk
ooooooooooooooooo
I’ll stick with Unreal Tournament 2004 and Unreal Tournament 2007 when it’s released. I’d take the Leviathan over the Warthog any day.
anyone play tribes recently? (dumbasses)
Not recently, that series has been dieing as long as I can remember. BF2 on the other hand…
More is NOT better. I’d rather them send more data per person than having a larger player count. It’s a recipe for chaos. This is one of the major reasons I can’t stand playing BF2.
Exactly. Metal Gear Solid 3 : Subsistences online has a mere 8 players, yet it’s abosulutely brilliant. Socom 3 was ruied by having larger maps and more players, but what do I care, Halo and the XFLOP suck.
Actually i dont know of any console that allows 64 players. A PC. Is not considered a ‘console’ btw.
Your outa line man. Outa line.
anyways that would be a cool step in the halo universe. THey nailed the 8 on 8 deal so many peoples are into that. I’d like to see what they could do with 64 or even 32 players.
They still haven’t gotten around to releasing halo 2 for PC and when they do it’s going to be vista only =P
I don’t think they will be able to have a 64 man server running smoothly. BF2 has a tendency to start crapping out with 64 players. Bandwidth for that many players just relly starts to bog systems down.
Really, like there’s a single person out there with a fast enough connection to handle that. Even with a rented server it would lag. 32 at the VERY most. They tried it with Delta Force: Black Hawk Down on the old Xbox using 50 players, and that didn’t handle it very well at all.
@Frank and Scott
I maintain that the article is heinously wrong in its claims.
“…..and word has it that the multiplayer will be unmatched compared to other games.” is what I read.
It is not unprecedented to have 64 players on a map. By using his words, he has falsified the data.
By choosing to reflect this “news” on Extralife, you have in effect chosen to participate in a lie about the past. I don’t know if this is what you want, but it’s basically giving credibility to Microsoft’s attempt at re-writing FPS history. After all, how many young kids see Halo as their FIRST first person shooter?
Ask yourself whether you want to CHECK the news before you re-say it. Do you want to be one of the metoos or a source for REAL news?
hmmm I still dont like the name master chief, im dyslecic so so reading the reviews when it came out, for a while I though it was a game about cooking
