Two Teens Kill 7-Year-Old Girl with Supposed Mortal Kombat Moves
- By Scott Johnson on December 20th, 2007
Since the rest of the web is talking about this like it’s the biggest story ever, I figure we can talk a bit about it as well. A quote:
The two teens reportedly hit, kicked, and body-slammed 7-year-old Zoe Garcia, causing “a broken wrist, more than 20 bruises, swelling of the brain, and bleeding in her neck muscles and under her spine”, the affidavits have said. Prosecutors are claiming the teens were imitating “wrestling moves” found in the Mortal Kombat video game.
Wow…Think Jack will have fun with this one? sigh… I just feel bad for the little girl, and I feel like kicking the teens in the face. Unfortunately for me, a kick to the face might also be consstrued as a Mortal Kombat “wrestling move”.

Wow, what a sad world. What kind of sick people just beat a little girl to death? And her own sister too. I don’t care how drunk you are there is no excuse for something that horrible. And blaming Mortal Kombat? just no. So if I play some Super Mario and decide it’s ok to run around stomping on toddler’s it’s Nintendo’s fault? That doesn’t fly. I hope the two of them rot in the most hellish prison they can find.
I find it sad that such a horrendous crime is being overlooked in any way because of a videogame. Whether or not Mortal Kombat was an influence is a moot point as the violence (as so many suggested before) speaks more to the malice and negligence of the drunk teenagers than to anything else.
IF videogames are having any effect on the population, then these issues need to be dealt with before any violent outbursts, and they need to direct the investigation into the individuals playing the games, not the games themselves. That’s like suing gunmakers for mass murderers, and letting the murderers get away with it.
Wow…. just wow. And you know that the only reason that video games was brought into this is because the boyfriend said “[I was] downstairs playing video games while the sisters wrestled upstairs” and later backtracked. I haven’t played mortal combat since moral combat 2, but I don’t think there is a “body slam” maneuver in it is there? I hope they rot.
Ok my guess is that they were drunk as well.
Yes these two kids are evil.
But what worries me is that in article it’s indicated that there were multiple witnesses.
W-T-F?!!!!!!
all the people, all these teens that were there witnessing that, ought to get locked up as well. I don’t care how drunk you were (not to mention you legally shouldn’t be drunk at that age) you know that kicking a baby is wrong.
Lately I am getting ticked off by these passive witnesses as much as by the criminals themselves.
Oh my god, this is so sad.
But what is even more sad is that people apparently have no responsibility anymore. Just blame everything on alcohol, movies, games, bad childhood, etc….
:’(
Ok, this is just WRONG on so many levels, it’s not funny anymore (and I can find humor in a lot of things) I mean come on, aside from the fact that a moronic prosecutor brings videogames into the picture, what is wrong with some people is beyond me. I played every mortal kombat game till 4, played pretty much all the big FPS titles, the Jedi games, a lot of TPS, and never hurt anyone. Seriously what are parents there for in places where things like this can happen? To supply alcohol? And I’ve been drunk not even once (I’m legal age) but that is no excuse for any of this either. Being drunk can be an excuse for acting moronic or vomiting on your friends shoes or not being able to talk coherently, that is all. As for the witnesses… okay I won’t even mention them. Ok maybe I will, seriously a fight this magnitude is sure to be noisy, and they say they saw it, than why the hell didn’t they stop it? I don’t care how old they are, they need to be put away for a looooong time. And the parents need to get a whuppin’ too.
people have to focus on the right thing [the wrong thing in this case]
gaming has nothing to do with this poor girls death , its alcohol !
its what caused them to lose their mind and do something stupid that will cost them their freaking life .
those idiots!
also just because its the alcohol that messed thier mind it doesnt mean that they shouldnt be held acountable
they should be sent to jail for the alcohol and then sentenced to death for the murder of that little girl !
Agree with katheb, if we the gamers quit talking about the game part of it, and focus on the true cause (the alcohol) this wouldn’t be as big as its getting.
There have been several reports of groups of school teens beating up people on the bus in Baltimore City, some much older than them even. It’s out of control.
just being devils advocate here but can we really punish people for being stupid? i mean, we should just ship them to the moon.
I have said this before, I’ll say it again.
Videogames, or jazz, or comic books, or whatever the flavor of the month is are blamed because it’s difficult to accept that there is pure evil in the world. I see this and I really really hope and pray that these two… people get the death penalty for what they did.
Now, don’t get me wrong. IF they showed some remorse and took some responsibility for what they did it would be another matter entirely.
and before you guys go nuts on me. I had a friend when I was a kid, he and his buddies went out drinking and decided that they’d shoot up a car on the way to poaching a dear. They hit a naval officer in the back of the head, killing the young man instantly.
They would’n't even have caught them if the guy I know didn’t go to the cops.
he’s spending 40 years in jail. Longer than he’s been alive and he was not the triggerman.
My point being that blaming videogames only makes the crime worse.
Now excuse me while I go and be sick over this.
48 yrs is idiotic. Take care of em HERE AND NOW. sending em to prison for that long is just gonna make em worse.
Its why i hate the judicial system “Here, they did something really bad, lets just toss em in the back with the others for this long so I never have to bother with them again, who cares if they become irreversibly bitter over the next 20+ years?”
I say bring back the guillotine.
Cheap, effective, and if it gets stuck for a second, serves em right.
Nothing inhumane about it. to me, waiting for some chemical to kill you from the inside out sounds inhumane.
People always say “thats inhumane” because its messy.
Just because it looks human to the audience, doesnt mean its humane to the person being executed.
BRING BACK THE GUILLOTINE FOR THESE TWO.
As I said, if it gets stuck for second, serves em right.
Sides, doesnt the guillotine sound like it would intimidate criminals much more than some stupid injection that they hafta wait 40 yrs for?
off track, I know, but if they do get such a huge sentence, that’s my opinion of it, and I think they SHOULD get the death penalty…but the guillotine is far more effective…that and hanging.
Its all the Video Games fault…
Lets completely ignore the fact you had 16 and 17 year olds getting drunk without any supervision…
To be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if this is some sort of ploy by the lawyers to some how wriggle their way out of the kids having responsibility for their actions. Its quite sad =\
The mother was at work trusting the daughter to watch her little sister, you cant blame the parent here, she was away and like any parent, trusted the older child to watch the younger one. My heart goes out the the mother as she will always remember Christmas as the time when her life ended. She did not just lose one child, but both as the other kid WILL be serving such a long time in jail that she may as well pretend she never had kids. I mean how can you forgive your child for killing your younger one? I don’t know, my heart breaks for her.
Flawless Victory?
To quote Maveriick:
“This is just sad… and it is sad that they are blaming it on something other than pure and simple poor decisions. People need to take responsibility for their own actions.”
Agreed. And, as others have pointed out, the kid was DRUNK. That has far more impact on your mind than a game does.
So, if I play a game where I’m shooting ganados in the head, does that mean I’m going to grab a shotgun and blow peoples heads off (hoping they don’t have parasites…)?
Also, agree with Jase. I say we use the short-drop method. Let ‘em suffocate.
Or, better yet, kill them they way they killed her. I bet the crime rate would go down if we started employing the “kill them like they killed their victim(s)” method. Would be a mess, but the lower amount of crime would be worth it.
If they end up in prison, I’ll be interested to know how the fellow inmates treat them. Strangely, criminals do have a standard or two. Even the guy who killed a bunch of people will look down on someone who killed/raped/etc. a child. One of my friends goes into prisons to minister, and he’s heard of guys who have killed kids getting seriously hurt or killed when the other inmates got after them.
And now we’re chanting for their blood. Behold, for we are surely the most civilised of people… ¬_¬
Not that I have even the slightest sympathy for those scumbags, but you barbarians demanding that they be flayed alive (or whatever it is you yanks do to people…) are just pathetic…
I think it’s rather horrible that people keep looking for scapegoats for violent youth in this country– videogames, movies, rap music, comic books, television, the list goes on and on– instead of actually uncovering the real problems that are at the core of behavior such as this.
I’m sick of these kids using rock music to beat people up with their kung-fu movies teaching them wrestling moves from video games they saw in comic books…personally i blame rap music.
