Hmmmm… the more videos I see and the more things I read, the more I am not impressed with this game. I am still thinking that the new Star Wars is going to be the Sci-Fi MMO to play.
Not a fan of EVE. Extensive character creation with absolutely no point to it. Spaceflight by point-and-click. I wanna pilot fighters, manually. If I spend all that time making an awesome character image, I want it to rip out someone’s intestines with a spoon through their spine. SWTOR, however, will likely have no spaceflight nor spoon-fighting, either.
Although creating your own race is a cool idea, I am still not impressed by what I have seen so far. I would love for this game to be great, but I have yet to see anything that makes me think it might be.
I’m pretty sure that fifth race they showed was one of the Founders, i.e. Odo from DS9. That seems pretty ambitious even for the Federation. “We destroyed your empire 30 years ago. Do any of you want to join up?” Especially when they’re a race of shape shifters who might want revenge? Madness, I say.
@DoomyMcDoom: I already registered for their beta. I am not too hopeful since their location is overseas from me. I want SWG spaceflight, but a lot faster with RotS/RotJ chaos. Surely broadband can handle that. Yes? No? … I have to wonder, though: How do they handle the destruction of an entire starship in STO? Does the captain go down with the ship? Does the captain get demoted and have to serve on another ship? … Can I save the Quadrant in a Garbage Scow (that resembles a Red Devil Dustbuster)? (Space Quest FTW!)
Why would you want to manually fly your starship when they don’t even do that in the movies or TV shows? I believe they can manually maneuver the shuttle craft but flying a starship isn’t much more than punching in coordinates and pulling the throttle.
And, of course, no Sivaoans. I guess those gene seeders from that one TNG episode did a freakin’ good job of making sure none of the races that followed them were furries. (Except the dino-people.)
So Klingons & Vulvans are as weak as humans in this game … or do we get to create human-like races with the strenght of a Klingon, the emotion of a human and the looks of a Vulcan ?
I wanna play as a Tribble
Is is just me or does the music sound like Galaxy Quest? Still looks pretty good though.
Looks cool – going to wait and see about the game – afraid its going to be too EVE online however even with cool character
I want to play Harcourt Fenton Mudd. =P

Ccreating your own race sounds really awesome.
Too EVE Online you say? To me that’s a selling point
To each their own.

I wonder how long it’d be for someone to make a Dranie in the Trek game
I want to be a Klingon named “brownie.”

lol @ Curtis.
STO looks to be a promising game… I look forward to it’s completion.
@Eric
If you wanna pilot fighters manually check out Black Prophecy

I find it hilarious that apparently “creating your own alien race” equals “endless options” of skin colors, facial ripples, and hair styles…

Tribble FTW!!
Please note that all created races must wear red uniforms. Starfleet policy.

@Novan
Have you not seen Insurrection? A joystick comes up from the floor for manual control.
@Ceiynt
Gee thanks, I forgot about Insurrection, now I’ll have to forget it all over again.
This troubles me. City of Heroes is also proud of their character generation. And that’s the only good thing in that game.
That’s not true, there’s also the… um, well they have the….err you can be a bad guy I guess.

Customize your race to look like a human with a normal head or a really long head. Apply some blotches of colour or bony ridges.
The possibilities are endless!
Yeah… not impressed, really.
# JaFO Vulvans, eh? That’s one of those Trek rentals that lie beyond the pink doors at the back of the video store.
Same engine as the creator for Champions Online, at least it looks like it.
