Just thinking about how little we MMO players have to show for our work down the road. It can be frightening at times. Hence the comic.

You’re a bunch of pussies. Grow up and stop being so hyper-sensitive.

Jeez people. Just a comic. If scott had a series of strips where people mutilated themselves, well maybe yes, he’s out of line however, if it was some git swallowing a grenade and the strip finished with his innards being splattered over the sides of the strip, this would be clearly comical. Hell, i come here for the softy pansy stuff, and i go to Penny Arcade for satisfy my more offensive, blood lusty side. Even if this is a horrible offensive comic, it only brings scotts nasty comic average to barely half a percent I’m sure.

    Go Scott, keep em coming.

Again, it’s just a freakin comic. Lighten up people.

  3. Vergast

Im saddened by the coments ive read. Especialy the first one.
extra life gives you free entertainment and you just think its ok to type ‘Scott sucks’?
If you think that man vote with your feet. Rember its a comic, an extream parady on life.
Like the man says, theres alcoholisum, suicde and violence in loony toons and these are deamed ok for kids how do you people think this is worse?
When i first read that i though, ‘predictable but funny’ how did you get that it was a personal insult?

    Come on people…

    Calm down with the flaming…

Its a JOKE for goodness sake… Will you please take it as one…

If Scott meant to offend people, he could have done a LOT worse… I’m sure of it!

Just calm down, and just enjoy the comic!

  5. Kainti

I would’ve loved if if there had been a 5th panel of just the cliff…and then then a huge bubble…that says…

    “FOR THE HORDE!!”

  6. Jake

That guy in your comic had the same name as me. Now I’m imagining I’m the guy falling off the cliff.

  7. bunnyrut

it bothers me b/c he looks like he was pushed off the cliff… it might have been by me *evil laughter*

  8. Vergast

Kainti that would have been excelent!

  9. Bassik

Crappit, I totally forgot to say something about the comic *feels like terrible geek*

Scott, its great. But as others noted before me, it looks like the guy has been pushed… :D

  10. Teh Jake

Scott, I think the reason there’s such a visceral reaction, for me at least, is because I read this directly after listening to your WoW Diary. Together, it just seems so sad that I felt bad for you, like you’re not having any fun with it anymore. From that angle, I would say if it’s not fun anymore you definitely shouldn’t play. But I think there might be some people who listened THEN saw the comic & thought the two were connected a lot more than maybe you, as the artist, intended.

That’s my two cents, anyways. :)

  12. Flamewall

And if hyper-sensitive people don’t stop sending idiotic messenges to this discussion Scott will be traumatized for life and start making a comic about a bunny and two bits of soap wih punchilnes like “But the woodchuck wouldn’t chop wood”. So please. I really like this comic so let’s not blow thing out of proportion here.

  13. Rezza

Yeah, when you think about out we really don’t have anything to show for those countless hours of playing. But ya know what? I’ll see you all in World of Starcraft! Muwahahahahahhaa.

  14. Dan

    Not Funny

  15. Ballistic

People say it’s not funny because they see themselves playing MMOs just as long as that guy. I take long hiatuses so I never really get addicted.

  16. Bob

Suicide jokes are not funny. Making fun of people that play MMO’s is or can be hilarious.

  17. Tom

Bob: “Suicide jokes are not funny.” A good joke is funny, no matter what the subject is.

Vegasadelphia: “1st amendment not withstanding…” Agree with your message but it’s sad that a comic about a rabid MMO player devoting his life to his games, only to suddenly one day realise there really isn’t that much to show for all those years spent, would need to even go near mentioning your constitution. And it’s not as if the meaning of the comic is hidden, folded with infinite complexity into an inscrutable subtext. Frankly, whether not not you find this comic funny, if you think it’s *about* suicide in any way, then I’m surprised you’ve got this far through my message with all its words longer than 5 letters.

There are two things wrong with the internet. The first isn’t too relevant here.

    1) Fanboys/girls and their inability to listen to argument, process reasoned discussion if it contain points of view that counter theirs or question their boring and endless re-mentioning of [insert product/brand/person/company/cheese].

    2) Political correctness. This was a phenomenon in the 80s and early 90s in the UK. Thankfully it’s largely dropped from the popular consciousness and we’re able to go back to simply using our better judgement and 21st century evolved sensibilities to know how not to offend people. I don’t know if the USA is still in the throws of political correctness or not, or if it’s something that’s re-reared its head due to the “everyone can have a voice” aspect of the intarwub, but the fact that you cannot say a single thing that’s remotely out of turn without a bunch of whiners leaping on your words (or in this case images) and twisting them to fit their agenda.

I found the comic sobering. Not really funny, but sad. What I disliked about the comic was not the commentary on a wasted life through video games (could have been about anything, alcohol, drugs, TV, blogging, commenting on blogs, etc) but the idea that even in a comic (a very well done one by the way), the answer that people are given is not redemption, recovery, or change, but death.
I would also remind people that responses are often not about being “politically correct” or “idiotic” or “hyper-sensitive”, but having actually experienced the pain related to events. Jokes about shaken babies are a lot less funny when you have met the children who have been shaken, suicide is not a joke when you have experienced a loved one taking their life.
Keep up the good work Scott. Remember folks, if he doesnt want comments he can stop blogging!
