Holy Crap, i really want to play this. Bad.
alt.nerd.obsessive
I am so getting this game when it comes out.
I can’t wait for this game.
Good thing I’ve had it pre-ordered
heh, yea they’re going pretty much all out the the physics tech in this one

enjoy!
Wow looks absolutely amazing!
But I was just wondering about the storyline and/or the control of the force. There are only so many button sequences that i can remember. There’s no point having great graphics if the rest is all crud.
Pretty cool stuff they’re doing in this game. Big question on my mind though. How is it that this apprentence of Darth Vader’s is more bad ass and powerful than Vader, and even the Emporer? I mean, the stuff he’s doing is so over powered. I know its really cool, and it’s going to be fun to play the charecter, but I’m just trying to think of it in the context of the story and movies.
It will be a poor game, mark my words.
They are doing things that other games have before, only hyping it up a little more. The real giveaway is the release is for ALL platforms including the frikkin N-Gage, they haven’t concentrated on next-gen brilliance.
Ugh, they are giving me a reason to buy a PS3 or a 360. *whines*
I’ve been working on this game since last year, so I think my opinion may be a bit Biased.
For JackUK’s concern you couldn’t be more wrong. There are currently 3 different teams working on the different SKUs. I’m on the Xbox360/PS3 team and that is all we focus on, Next-Gen. Krome is working on the PS2 and Wii versions, and there is another team working on Handhelds
Check out the Other Webdocs, they talk about the reason his powers are “Unleashed” a lot more eloquently than I can, plus I have to weigh everything I say against what I know versus what has been announced.

My own opinion, biased as it may be, this game is gonna Rock.
Wow!
No PC version?
That looks pretty flippin’ awesome!
with all the tech they are putting in this game I bet the storyline is SHORT
I wonder how crappy the Wii version if going to look.
Hey, what Flatlander says here, with three dev teams (“current-gen”/”next-gen”/”mobile”) sounds great… for the next-gen versions, that is. This was the exact same thing, I believe, they did with the spider-man three game. Remember how the Wii and PS2 versions were received? They absolutely sucked. I expect the same thing to happen here.
Then another thing. These kind of videos always amaze me, how much they can do and all that. However, I feel as if gameplay and level-design are dying and physics/graphics/next-genness of a game are what people are buying games for and thus what games are developed for. From what I have seen of this game so far the gameplay seems like somthing I wouldn’t want to play. On the other hand, I too am biased, and will go back to playing Galaxy now.
Looks amazing but I have this feeling in my gut that it will be short. Can’t wait for a demo!
I’m rather glad its not on PC, Crysis demanded a lot from us mortal beings but this game would demand more than the lord himself can offer.
Uhm… RevFunk, that’s not true as far as I know. Crysis is not on consoles because it’d chew them up and spit them out for breakfast if they (X360&PS3) tried to run Crysis at max settings. This game probably would run on any pc that can run Crysis fairly well.
Well, I just read how Epic games got their optimization down for consoles, so I’m sure that they could run it, if they decided to convert Crysis to a Xbox360 or PS3 and still look like the highest settings on the DX9 version of Crysis. Don’t really see a need to put in the bloated DX10 features as well, but I bet they could be done anyways with the right optimization.
here it is -> http://www.gamepro.com/sony/ps3/games/features/158468.shtml
The Deep is right.
What i really want though is some crappy footage from the Wi version hopefully showing some sweet wiisabering.
This is not specific just to TFU but has been my experience as a game developer. When a project is in its infancy the Producers and Executives of the company do a cost / profit analysis. During this time they see how much it would cost to develop for what systems and how much money they expect to make back from the sales on each system.
The problem with developing for the PC is the cost to gain ratio is not kind to certain genres. The FPS and RTS Genres do quite well on the PC, action games however do not. I challenge you look at the big hits on the PC for the last 5 years and see if you can find one that is not an MMO, FPS, or RTS. I doubt you can find more than a handful.
Also to develop for the PC you need to need to account for the various types of video cards, sound cards, hard drives speeds etc. And it cost man hours and money.
To develop for the X360 and Ps3 you know exactly what each system is going to be specced at, and are able to develop specifically to those specifications and are thus able to focus more man hours on the design and game play side of the game as opposed to the nitty-gritty tech side of getting the game to run on all these different platforms with the PC.
I bet that cost analysis they did for the PS3 isn’t looking quite so good right now. Something tells me that when they were at that stage of the development, they had much larger numbers for the PS3 planned.
I watched that video, and all I could think when they talked about the integration of the three technologies was “For the Wii we had to drop all three of them, but look! We give you Waggle!” The thought of Spiderman 3 for the Wii just keeps running through my head.
Better than porn.
It’s beautiful yes… but I’m still reserving judgement. Bioshock was beautiful and I found that game EXTREMELY boring.
Flatlander: Why no PC love?
I’m a little bit worried… My concern lies with the story, mostly because we know that George Lucas was messing with it. I’m still waiting for the next KotOR…
i just wet my pants..
this game is going to rock my world
Great tech in theory … it’s a shame they’re wasting it on yet another Star Wars.
I also wonder if Euphoria is only in there *because* of the over-the-top effects in the game.
Having npc’s duck and/or run for cover isn’t exactly ‘new’ for some games.
btw : also notice that they’re merely using Havok instead of the supposedly wonderful Ageia PhysX.
I wonder what made them chose …
Wouldn’t Ageia PhysX make people buy Physics cards for their consoles?
PC PC PC PC PC PC PC PC PC! Dang it!
Flatlander, you mentioned you were a developer.
What area to do you work in?
I do have a concern. Only one time in that video did they show the player-character doing anything other than standing there and pushing his hand foward.
This one time (5:58 in the video) was when something blew up next to him, and the force of it caused him to stagger. This reaction was very delayed in comparison to the (for lack of a better phrase) energy-lines showing the explosion, and only occured after the character was done moving his hand in a force-manipulating gesture. There was also the 2 or 3 times they showed a window exploding and all of the air rushing out of the ship. Everything around the character moved, even the air that was behind him, except he did not.
So I’m wondering, are they going to go through all this work and then not apply it to the one thing that is on your screen constantly? It really takes away from the whole fluidity of the game if you character doesn’t move like everyone and everything else.
I like it, but make the character move too.
These probably are “work in progress”-vids … so the fact that the character does not react may simply be a bug that needs fixing.
Then again .. since the character is the one that is using these effects it makes sense that he can ‘brace’ himself against the effects a bit better.
@Tyler
Oh but that guy doesn’t give sith about whats going on around him
should have been “a sith”
arent i clever…
Look, I don’t give a flying flip about Star Wars or most sci-fi stuff like that but that game *looks* freakin amazing. It may be good, who knows. Of course the last time I played a game with this kind of stuff in it I was very disappointed (ahem ‘Advent Rising’). But I’ll give it a fair shot.
Gawl, that question is very easily answered:
Vader and Plapatine are SO badass, they don’t need to show off anymore!
In fact as seen, the apprentice needs his blaster to block enemy fire, Vader does not even need that.
OK, enough of the nerdy fanboy talk.
I think the game as such looks cool and running around smashing things just because you can really makes you feel like you belong to the dark side.
Also the main char looks very badass, especially when he walks into the room into the fire and only deflects the shots that were to hit him with a small gesture like it’s something he does like breathing.
If there’s a game behind all that and if the three pyhsics systems are more than just there to look cool, the finished game will have to show.
And yes, I too want to know how all that should work on a Wii (or DS or PSP for that matter)
Also I believe that game won’t come like this in germany. Somehow our officials have a problem with ragdoll and this here is Ragdoll to the max. I mean crushing a Tie Fighter with a Storm Trooper how cool is that? (And why do these things become more and more fragile with the time?)
Just another KOTR (Knights of the Republic) game trying to look like a First-person game, crippled by its platform.
Watching a game that would benefit so much from Mouse and Keyboard being played by a person using a clunky controller cracks me up.
Reason one I don’t own any console games. Sports games work on consoles. Puzzle games, etc.
The same reason applies why flight games don’t work on consoles applies to these types of games.
KOTR? First-person game? Tolwyn please stop embarrassing yourself.
Hahah, Tolwyn is an idiot.
Hah.
Yeah, that’s why Ace Combat 6 sold so well. Shut up, Tolwyn.
this looks awesome.
Sad. I love watching you guys try to play games like this.
Look, mom! I can play Call of Duty!
(turn… turn… wait.. move forward… uh… aim… little higher, little higher (crap too high)… little lower. Wait a minute (back up) Fire! Fire!) Got ‘em.
Whew! That only took 3 minutes.
And yes. KOTR (3rd person action/adventure little more exciting than NWN)
KOTR and this game = Pretty much same thing; OR, this game and the Jedi Knight games withe 3rd person perspective. Either case… I think I nailed it, given the fanboi response.
Ace Combat 6?
4 titles for you:
Falcon 4 (either release, take your pick)
IL2 Sturmovik (any release (IL2, FB, PF, 4.06)
FS9 (even (ack) FSX)
Shockwave BoB
These are games for “grown ups”.
Ace Combat 6 FoL ??? What, you’re comparing actual flight physics, BFM, ACM against this arcade crap?
HAHAHAHAH
Pretty pictures/screenshots != Good Game (not to mention a simulation)
But hey, the site does offer some America Online Buddy Icons. Can’t be all bad, right??
Good grief.
Well,
looks to me like another Physics Engine with a Game attached. I hope it’s just the persepective thing in the video, and they haven’t spent all their developement time on the technical stuff.
I mean some sort of physics engine is presented by every game today, just like multichannel-3D-sound effects or special Shader effects or drop shadows.
So what, everybody can do that nowadays and does, it comes with nearly every commercial game dev package you can buy.
Problem is it won’t guarantee a good, innovative game.
I hope for a fully functional game that’s fun to play and is delivered 99% bugfree.
