Looks like it might be good, fingers crossed!

  2. Shaymus22

    Two things:
    -I know nothing of V
-I am intrigued by this Independence Day – July 4, 1984 -ish-looking movie

  3. greyjasper

V scared the crap out of me as a kid. That and the Daleks from doctor who. This… Ahh, I don’t know. Maybe.

    • DavrosD

      Agreed sir.=]

  4. Andreas

What I think is cool is that Sci-Fi is kicking Fantazy’s butt in 2010.

    • Andreas

PS. I doubt this will be a “Star Trek” kind of storyline.

  5. Zac Erickson

This looks like a friggin great show. Hope they don’t blow it.

  6. Moobie

Indeed Shaymus it’s very Independence Day-ish. However I recall the original V and Independence Day borrowed many of it’s aspects from V.

    The original V NBC promo…

  7. WarlockJA

It looks good! I don’t think people are going to talk much about it after it airs.

  8. Donnerberg

I could care less for another generic “ufo over the town, aliens look like people” kind of thing, but with Inara and Wash from Firefly starring in it I’m definetly gonna see it.

  9. ThePenciler

Interesting. The interrupted marriage proposal. The bickering mother and son. The TV personality. The Jurassic Park water glass ripples. The mistaken earthquake. The rooftop “golly gee whiz” reactions. The panic in the streets. The insta-military.

I think a few checks were made on a list somewhere. ;)

    • Coyote

Yeah… It definitely looked more interesting before I notice all the cliches being clustered out.

Characters looking up and saying either “my god…” or “holy shit” is not original writting at all.

  10. Wee3

OMG got to see htis when its aired! =)

  11. Allen Stergess

Yet another remake…I remember watching the original and loved it! Hope they don’t blow it, be nice to see anyone from the original cast like Robert Englund?

  12. Jeff S.

The commercials with that Muse song and that chick just get me so pumped to see this!

  13. Dave

acting looks a little rough around the edges but I’m intrigued nonetheless

  14. Charlie

Ah, gotta love how Hollywood copies what’s successful – D9 was bound to be a major hit, ABC follows suit with a first contact/Alien Immigrant story of their own.

Looks like it could be good but… I’ve been burned before…

    • Punkrawk Bbob

Hey, don’t complain. More Sci-Fi making the waves the better IMO. Good or bad, it’s better than watching Survivor, Biggest Loser, American Idol, Real World 42, or any other of the countless extremely low budget reality shows.

Honestly, I think Lost kind of paved the way for Sci-Fi to be accepted again on TV. It tricked people with it’s simple premise, escape an island. Then add in all sorts of crazy things along the way slowly and people realize ‘hey, time travel can be fun!’.

      • charlie

Oh don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that Sci-Fi is coming back into vogue but… I suppose I just want there to be more original sci-fi content that doesn’t feel as copycat-like as this.

      • charlie

Also, this is further emphasized by the fact that SyFy is working on a new Alien Nation TV show.

    • Dave

Wait a minute.. I’m not one to defend Hollywood, but D9 has only been out a little over 2 months now. You can’t possibly suggest that ABC got the idea from district 9’s success and proceeded to follow suit in production of a (rebooted) series, all in 2 months time?

      • charlie

No, definitely not. D9 has been advertising for a long time (over a year prior to it’s release). There was a lot of hype about the movie and I’m sure ABC knew it was going to be successful and re-invigorate the interest in first-contact/alien immigration stories in the mainstream consciousness.

      • Coyote

If anything, this looks a lot more ID4 “inspired”, than District 9. Will have to wait and see.

    • Scott Colbert

If you ever saw the original, you’d know V paved the way for what seems cliched today. If anything, D9 was inspired by V, not vice versa.

      • Charlie

I have no doubt (the original V was great) but the timing seems too convenient to me… But then again, that’s what Hollywood is best at – following trends.

  15. Brian Duff

You know why I’m going to watch this show? because it’s not another reality TV, gameshow, vote-people-off-the-island crap that the networks have been throwing at us for the past few years. I love my sci-fi. Even if it’s the “New Coke” version of an older series.

  16. Devilbob

    LOL @ “NEW COKE”

I’m just hoping the writers can add new intricacies to the story line. Without innovative story telling, better costumes and special effects amount to a new dust jacket on the same old book.

  17. Jacob Kern

I loved “V” as a kid I hope it is as good as the original and for those that know nothing you should be greatly surprised…..I know I was when i first watched it. I do notice one thing from the previews I have seen that I am a bit disappointed in is that their voices don’t have that cool sounding re-verb from the first one.

  18. Tolwyn

Put on your tinfoil hat with me. I’m just going to wax a little anti-Hollywood effects.

    1. In order for an Atmospheric disturbance to inflict seismic tremors would be so powerful as to pop every eardrum of the people close enough to feel it.

    2. An F16 cannot “flat spin” in that manner. When military planes pancake the ground, they splat with a very localized explosion (more of an eruption of fuel). They cannot create enough force to make that kind of explosion. And if the pilot ejected, there’d be no canopy. Whoops.

I dunno. I guess it’s good for the pinheads out there.

      1. Excuse – Alien Technology
      2 – Excuse – Alien Technology

      :P

I was around when the original V was on. I thought it was kinda dumb at the time. There is no doubt in my mind that this will be better that that. What that means is anybody’s guess. Agree totally with the poster before me.

  20. Rezlow

    “Here mousie, mousie, mousie…”

  21. Maroon

There’s no better way to say “don’t be frightened, we mean no harm” than hovering perilously low over a major population center, causing an earthquake and a blackout, and killing a few people. I hope they catch on a little quicker than in the original after that kind of stunt.

Does Paris get destroyed again? I always look forward to that bit in these things.
