The FBI, working with an Alaska oil contractor, secretly taped telephone calls with Sen. Ted Stevens as part of a public corruption sting, according to people close to the investigation.

The secret recordings suggest the Justice Department was eyeing Stevens long before June, when the Republican senator first publicly acknowledged he was under scrutiny. At that time, it appeared Stevens was a new focus in a case that had already ensnared several state lawmakers.

The recorded calls between Stevens and businessman Bill Allen were confirmed by two people close to the case who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still under way. They declined to say how many calls were recorded or what was said.

Allen, a wealthy businessman and Stevens’ political patron, agreed to the taping last year after authorities confronted him with evidence he had bribed Alaska lawmakers. He pleaded guilty to bribery and is a key witness against Alaska legislators. He also has told prosecutors he paid his employees to renovate the senator’s house. Read more…

See, scandals are like a series of Tubes and the Republicans are clogging those tubes and the consumer need to pay more to make the tubes bigger and there fore, with bigger tubes, there will be less scandals.

  2. Moordecai

Ok…. nothing was said about what he said! Innocent until proven guilty right?
oh never mind he is republican and is Guilty forever since the news of his innocence will never be publish by the media.

I don’t know if he is guilty or not but maybe we should have something concrete before flying of the cuff with accusations.

What I want to know is, when did Scott become so interested in news like this? I guess it IS Ted “Tubes” Stevens, but is this “fert” worthy?

Hey anyone whose read up on net neutrality should have expected this, the guy with his tubes rant was trying to put forward the bill that favours corportate control of various aspects of the internet. I was exepcting him to have a fat check from the telecommunications companies.

Also the guy is a complete idiot.

Yeah Life I did and listened to the video attached to the story. Wanna tell me where there was anything more than mentioning the fact that he was being monitored? I’ll be more than glad to recant my statement if there was a fact that I glossed over.

oh never mind he is republican and is Guilty forever since the news of his innocence will never be publish by the media.

Blah blah blah… fall on your sword and all that. It’ll never get published in the media – because it won’t happen.

I’d rail this guy no matter what party affiliation he has. Because when he messes with net neutrality topics – he messes with my job. So he better damn well know what he’s talking about and actually make informed arguments – not just say what some suite is paying him to say.

The guy is an idiot and corrupt – you couldn’t tell that by the way he was babbling on about net neutrality? There was a corporate hand up his arse making him talk like a Muppet – he just couldn’t get the words out.

And don’t even think the “Bridge To No Where” was a conscience thought about anyone actually affected by it – it was another kickback.

You have a point binary that we should make people own up to there wrongdoings and such. My main point in this argument is that there is no evidence of being guilty or not. And the media to make a story is publishing this as a negative story against Ted without there actually being anything negative against him.
If we are going to have a story about corruption and such lets do it on something that is true or proven… not just possible or highly likely.

Yay for my state finally mentioned on Scotts blog, YAY ALASKA!!!

  16. Bonnie

Just because I’m curious…what made you post this on the blog, Scott? Seems a bit of a departure from the norm… :^)

HEY! I wish my state wasn’t used in the same breath as Ted “Retardo” Stevens! I despise this guy and most of our Republicans up here in AK. We need to change his sack and drop him and his cracker spawn off on an island somewhere. I get so burned up hearing about “tubes”. The fricken guy is “Tool #1″!
