Sitting here watching Nick play The Force Unleashed and shocked how much better the acting and story and direction is as compared to all three of the prequels, and really even the original Star Wars stuff. In fact, even though I’m not super far into this yes, I would put this story up there with Empire. Really great stuff. Find myself wishing that they would do a CGI telling of this story instead of that clone wars crap they released in the summer. Thoughts?

Scott,
I played The Force Unleashed with my son and we beat it together, it was a great story, the game as a whole was ehh..ok. I won’t give anything away because you and Nick are playing. However, I found that there is talk of making it a movie. I put it on my blog but will not post it here because you do not allow posts.
I though the story was an incredible way to share the insight on how or what it would be like to be a Sith under the Sith Lord himself.
You can post it here, no problem. If it tries to spam it, I will clear it manually.
A great game, but there’s a section towards the end that’ll drive you mad!
Also 2 endings, one that totally breaks the Star Wars story line.
It’s no Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, but it’s a fine game.
I felt like that game was terrible at being a game. It’s really glitchy and the controls aren’t as responsive as they should be; I wish I had saved 40 dollars and bought the book, too.
Well here it is on my blog http://theord.com/?p=97
I am looking forward to gettting it eventually (once i get my X-box reparied), if only to expereince the storyline.
Having watched the new Clone Wars series (and the film) I can say I did not like it at first, but am now (as of episodes 3 and 4 of this season) starting to get into it. These last two episodes seemed a bit more mature than the film or the first two, so I hope this is a trend that continues.
oooh I’m glad to see it got there in one piece. (Repub Commando working too?) The story is great in my opinion. That’s all i’ll say. No spoilers.
My buddy Joe worked on that game. If you need a guest for the show, I can probably dig him up.
Whoever played Crashdown on Battlestar Galactica is the main character in that or I’ll buy a hat (since I don’t have one) and then eat it.
I don’t know, I really enjoyed the story far more then I expected, but I still have this stigma about it. It has this Shadows of the Empire effect on me, its a nice story with some elements that it could have done without but still works. However I will go as far to say that the Star Wars gaming tradition of great story telling is still going strong.
To have a complaint, I find certain characters rather shallow and the only non original character that is cool is Darth Vader. Bail Organa came in a close second. The apprentice in my opinion is everything we wanted Anakin to be in the prequels but wasn’t which is cool but ultimately makes me look back at the prequels and dislike them more then I should. As for everyone else… they get a meh only because the majority are there to represent characters that show up in the main bulk of the storyline… usually in complete opposites… Kota is basically Obi-Wan if he were broken and defeated.. the apprentice’s droid is basically a different take on 3P0 and so on. The characters that weren’t a foil or placeholder for something else didn’t feel right at all, the pilot for example bugged me because she gave the story this uncomfortable and uneasy feeling.
I almost feel like George Lucas is trying to make more and more people accept the prequels by having other outlets for story telling and connecting it all. The major examples being Force Unleashed and Clone Wars. I realize epic storylines sell but for a refreshing change of pace… how about something that doesn’t go out of its way to connect major players in the Star Wars universe together, the first half of the Jedi Knight games do that and quite well I might add… admittedly they do go off track on this with Mysteries of the Sith(Jedi Knight’s expansion where they bring in Mara Jade) and Jedi Academy(where they bring in Luke Skywalker).
I don’t know, I feel like every time there is a story involving Star Wars there is always this feeling of “If they did this, it would be epic and revitalize the series and be the talk of the year.”… that or I’m just expecting too much from the one gaming franchise based off of a movie that I enjoy immensely.
If you are interested in the gist of the storyline without having to play through the game, some enterprising soul captured all the cutscenes and posted them on youtube, starting here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GssQ_kaV8-4
I transferred them over to our living room tv and the story was so cohesive that my wife thought it was a new movie.
The best star wars story, in my opinion, is knights of the old republic. (KOTOR 2 was good, but felt truncated. And not as “twisty” as the first.)
i think the guy that wrote th first KOTOR should be writing star wars, not lucas.
I dunno about TFU; I tried the demo and it just felt like Psyops with a star wars skin. maybe I’m alone in that..heh.
Warren, you aren’t alone on that thought. But Psi Ops had better targeting. Either way, I did like TFU.
Up there with Empire?!?!?! I think not. Good story – but not in league with the OT.
You could just get the novelisation by the excellent Sean Williams, if you want the story without playing the game.
I thought the whole game was a good enough experience
The storyline managed to avoid the worst pitfalls , yet it was still “cheesy” at some points. I Really enjoyed the twists, the turns, the backstabbing, the ripping a star destroyer down from orbit… ya, i loved that game, a most awsome experience.
