The Jurassic Park series is now, as hard as it is to believe, 13 years old and we’ve seen 5 years go by without any return to the dinosaur infested islands. So it’s about time we saw a fourth in the series. Sky News is reporting that Spielberg is raring to get started on the fourth installment of the Jurassic Park series, and is considering directing the movie himself. Spielberg directed the first two movies, but left the third in the hands of Jumanji director Joe Johnston. Spielberg has said that Johnston is still his number one choice for the job, but if he’s unable to step up to the plate then Spielberg himself will take the directors chair.
The film is still set for a 2008 release, meaning someone somewhere has got a script together. What does everyone think? Did Johnston do a decent job of the third film? Should the Jaurras Park franchise be layed to rest?

No, Johnston did NOT do a good job with the third film. :p
That said, a good script could easily bring this franchise back to life.
The only one I thought was worth while was the first. In my eyes, it’s going to take a lot to redeem the series.
You know im in med school because of the first jurassic park movie…. maybe it doesnt make any sense for you but for me the first movie is one of the greatest science fiction movies ever, i liked the way they make it seem possible the impossible, the way they explained the impossible with science and everything…
so im a huge fan of the first movie, best special effects ever. Up to another jurassic park movie? Of course! But carefull with the script, the third movie was not good at all.
Actually, if they DO make Jurassic Park 4 (and they shouldn’t… but who cares?), the plot should be about some big time smuggler or something, filling up a huge cargo ship with dinossaurs captured in the island, to try and sell them, but there’s an accident with the ship, and they just shipwreck into the harbour of a major city (I say NY, but not being american myself, that seems like the obvious option. Although LA would probably be a better option… Yeah… that’s it! He could have captured the dinos to try and sell them to hollywood execs so they could use them insted of CGI effects in their movies! hahahahah
And then… all hell breaks loose as a couple T-Rex’s walks thru downtown LA.
Sorry. I got carried away.
Dear God, won’t somebody think about the children!?
EMPIRE is on to something!
The plot:
GUY smuggles dino eggs to Hollywood.
SPIELBERG (cameo!) buys them to use in Jurassic Park 4.
Moral: Spielberg is all cool, knows how to use self-referential trickery.
CAST arrives, begins shooting.
HANDLERS begin training dinosaurs.
Dinos escape (ohnoes!) and run wild through the film lots.
CAST, HANDLERS, lot SECURITY, and miscellaneous humor-laden CAMEOS work together to fight the dinosaurs.
Dinos are defeated just before escaping the giant film lots.
Moral: Hollywood exists in its own little world.
Spielberg opts to scrap the movie. Instead, he begins developing a movie from the “Behind the Scenes” footage of the carnage.
Final Scene:
SPIELBERG: So, that’s our movie. What do you think?
HOLLYWOOD TYCOON 1: Wow! We’re going to be rich!
HOLLYWOOD TYCOON 2: Look at those special effects!
HOLLYWOOD FX GUY: Eh. They’re okay. We can fix them in Post.
Jurassic Park III was a disgrace. I almost worry for Spielberg. JP is a waning enterprise because of two ho-hum sequels. I mean, aren’t those dinosaurs dead YET? Another JP, for me, would be overkill.
ARGHHH!!! I CAN WAIT!!
Jurassic Pakr has always beenmy fave film, I lovepart two but loathe the 3rd, curiose as to how the next one will go…
haha that plot kicks just too much ass:D
starring:
spielberg as stielberg!
and about the movie being made, part one and two were great, part 3 didn’t have it anymore.
I’m verry excited about the making of a 4th movie, I wonder how this will work:)
btw, addint HALO, I have 2 movies to go see in 2008
and 0 in 2007
weird
III let the series down. It is a very short movie too, suggesting they ran out of ideas and just wanted the bucks!
Should they bring it back? Of course, provided a decent script and director can be found. I think Spielberg has “moved on” in his style of movies since I and II, so maybe not him.
Actually, it’s more the script – something innovative, but still keeping what made the first film so good.
For 13 years old the “graphics” are still awesome!
Here’s what I think.
The first one= AWESOME.
The second one could have been great, but Spielberg knew he wouldn’t be directing the third one, and so he loaded in stuff that didn’t fit the movie, just because he really wanted to get to do it (ie: the T Rex loose in the city. Could have been a movie unto itself but it just doesn’t meld with Jurassic Park 2.
But the third one… The third one was both a failure and a success. It succeeded as a mindless action movie, but missed the feel of the other two. In the first two movies the dinosaurs were animals, and you honestly felt for them as well as the humans. But in the third movie, Jumanji guy turned the dinos into monsters. Ruined it for me. If Spielberg directs the t4th, I have faith. But if Jumanji guy directs it I’ll wait till its in the discount bin at Wal-Mart to see it.
the first movie was the best. no question there.
the second movie (sorry, spielberg) was awful. just awful. i could hardly sit through it. i did end up watching it more than once, thinking maybe there was some sort of hidden potential that i was missing – no. there wasn’t.
the third one, while not great, wasn’t horrendous.
i don’t think it’ll ever be possible to capture the feeling of the first film.
and i definitely think bringing dinosaurs to the city (a la the second film) is a bad idea. we’ve seen king kong already, twice now, we don’t need it again.
I sort of liked JP3…thought it was fun.
Well #1 was the best, #2 was ok. (both better if you cut out a lot of the cutesey character development stuff and just go for the action)
But I remember #3 I wanted my money back and wished the two Teridactials at the end would fly back and pluck out my eyes so I could forget what I saw.
I think in this day and age the movie wont’ hold up to a sequal.
Besides…what happened to Indian Jones #4? Isn’t he ever going to direct that?
Or am I mixing up my directors?
THat reminds me of another thing that pissed me off in Jurassic Park 3 (Well, actually it was in the behind the scenes feature on the DVD). All the animators and film makers were referring to the Pterodactyls as “flying dinosaurs”, when any nerd with a bit of dino trivia knowledge knows that dinosaurs were entirely terrestrial, and pterodactyls were infact pterosaurs. Calling them flying dinosaurs is akin to calling a bal eagle a “flying reptile”.
And they should know that, because they should have done some research on the damned things before starting production. The fact that they didn’t even know what order they belong to is reflective of the fact that in JP3 the dinosaurs weren’t animals, but monsters.
I better not hear anyone involved in the 4th movie refer to any “swimming dinosaurs” or I’ll throw a fit.
The 2nd was an out and out travesty really. It ruined the chances for the 3rd. The 3rd wasn’t so bad, except for the tacked on ending. The much hyped dinosaur duel was indeed spectacular, but all too short and lacking in suspense.
Well, everyone agrees the 1st one is the best, the 2nd one stinks, and th 3rd… somewhere in between.
Here is why:
The 1st one is based on a GREAT book by Micheal Crichton. In some ways, it didn’t do the book justice, but by itself as a movie, they did a good. job.
After they made much $$$, they thought.. we better have Mr. C write another book. Well, he had to write a book based on the 1st movie.. not the 1st book because they only wanted him to write the book so they could make the move.
Bad Idea. People like John H. come back to live.. children change ages.. and lots of other inconsistencies take place. If you read the 1st book, you shouldn’t read the 2nd. Well, the move was bad because they didn’t have a good book to base it off of. Crichton should have stopped at the 1st book.
So anyway, if someone comes up with a good script.. I don’t see why we shant all go catch another dino flick. I just hope they’ve learned from the past two disasters.
Hammond doesn’t come back to life in the second book, he was only alive in the second movie. The second book was good, but they totaly screwed it over when they made the movie. It’s been awhile since I read the book and saw the movie, but here’s what I recall
Book, good guys:
*Guy that is far to curious about InGen for his own good goes to the island and gets traped in a tree
*Rescue team with electric cars and electric RV-thingy go to island to save him
*Two kids that were supposed to go along for a testing of the electric cars on a camp trip kinda thing sneak into the RV-thingy
*Hammond still dead
Book, bad guys:
*Guy that wants InGen’s info for his genetics compainy goes to the island with a single boat and a single gas jeep to collect disosaur eggs to get the DNA
*Never capture live dinosuars, never put live dino’s on a boat and send it back to the US. In fact, I don’t think the peole themselfs ever made it back to the boat.
Movie, good guys:
*Ian’s GF goes to the island to take pictures of the dinosuars, with Hammonds funding (He didn’t die in the first movie, but he did die in the first book)
*Ian decideds he needs to go rescue her
*Same car and RV-thingy go to the island, but Ian’s kid (that never even existed in the book!) sneaks into the RV-thingy
Movie: bad guys:
*A freaking army of people with hummers and motercycles, trying to capture live animals for a freaking zoo
*Bunch of dino’s on a ship, dino’s get lose, kill the crew, get lose in a city.
And that’s just the off the top of my head, so to sum it up, I thought the book was still reasonably good, but they totaly butchered it in the movie. About the only things that are the same in the movie and the book is the RV-thingy, the island, and the names.
I actually liked the third. It’s true that the “awe”-factor of the first was no longer present in the succeding installments but the third had a look and feel to it that set it apart (in a good way).
I liked the 2 giant dinos fighting. I liked the fact that the raptors colors looked like slick oil (violet and stuff). Yes yes effects junkie in the house.
But come on… even storywise, in my opinion, as far as sequels go 3 was so much better than 2. I really enjoy Jeff Goldblum’s work but on anything but, I dont know I just dont buy the daughter thing. Its a lot easier to believe that Sam Neil could be tricked into going back.
