She had roles in nearly every “Star Trek” television show and movie, playing Nurse Chapel in the original series and lending her voice to the starship’s computer in nearly every incarnation of the saga.
She recently finished her role as the voice of the USS Enterprise computer in director J.J. Abrams’ movie “Star Trek,” which is due out in May, 2009, her family said.
More.

Dang!

That computer voice was so comforting and familiar. I’m serious. If the warp core was going to breach in 5 minutes, that’s just the way it was.
Lwaxana was a little weird though, with her enormous pupils/black iris.
She WILL be missed.
I loved Lwaxana. Best Star Trek character, ever.
Makes me wanna have a Lwaxana marathon. Should setup the episodes she appeared as that character.
I wonder if they’ll use Roxann Dawson(B’Elanna Torres on Voyager) as the next computer voice incarnation. She was the voice of the computer in the Enterprise episode where the ship docked with an automated repair station that used the bodies and brains of it’s visitors as it’s computing power.
so um.. does this mean that the enterprise can finally go one movie with out someone activating the Self Destruct mechanism? I mean seriously… it seems like thats all the computer is there for. that and asking it a question and it will say something like “there are no known examples of this” so now hopefully the enterprise will never blow up and the computer actually knows something

HUH?
Even after her divorce from Gene Roddenberry, they still remained each other’s greatest fan. She was kind, intelligent, and very driven in trying to make sure that Gene Roddenberry’s work was well cared for after his death.
Her death is a great loss. A truly classy lady who will be missed.
She was definitely a class act. Always very generous with the fans. The “First Lady of Star Trek.” Majel will be missed greatly. Watch this great tribute video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNNi8W8kEgw
So I was the only one who really hated her character? Huh…
@ Leslie – Gene and Majel never divorced. They were married for 32 years and had one son.
Rico is correct on all counts.
I emailed back & forth with Majel a few times. She was always very caring and thoughtful in her communications. Very generous with fans. Completely.
Majel Barret Roddenberry was one of the finest ladies with whom I have ever had the pleasure of sharing a planet. She should be remembered as the support without whom Star Trek as we know it would not exist. So let it be written; so let it be done!
Rest in Peace, Majel. Ladies like her are increasingly rare these days.
Now she is traveling with Gene again, at warp infinity. Godspeed.
Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! Majel… D:
I’m sad… Rest in Peace, Majel.
What a year. The amount of celebrity deaths is just plain scary, especially considering how many of them are important persons in Scifi and fantasy geekdom.
Of all the souls her“s was by far the most human.
Godspeed.

I was thinking that myself. You could do a 56 geeks in memoriam just about.
I LOVED her! I remember when i first saw her on an episode. One syllable out of her mouth and i said, “That’s the voice of the computer!!!” Had no idea she was a relative.
