Holy freaking crap. This really got to me. Can you imagine how that 4.5 minutes must have felt like to this guy? Insane.

Holy crap that was scary!
The moral of this story is “Skiing is dangerous.” Duh.
Man… I felt claustrophobic just watching that!
That was scary enough just watching, imagine what was going through the skiier’s mind.
Seems like he was well equipped though? At least he was prepared
That is insane. Scary is too nice a word.
Make sure to read the comments. In particular, this one from Hello Mr. Walrus: “This reminds be of the time I went to a mountain and was kidnapped by John Lithgow. He forced me to act as a guide to retrieve a suitcase full of money. Ultimately, I foiled him by destroying his helicopter while he was trying to escape. Yeah, those were interesting times.”
It’s almost as if they knew an avalance was going to happen, double checking the ava-lung thing, plus the GPS locator, making sure it works. Staged?
Avalung and GPS locator are pretty standard for when you’re skiing in the back country I think.
I would double check after watching this video
Being a scuba diver, I can relate with this similar preparedness.
As scary as this looks, I think this was part of some test because of the camera and equipment and the fact they knew they were on dangerous ground.
That 6 minute clip was more scary to me than any horror I’ve ever seen. Being buried alive is my all time biggest fear. Staged or not that had to be scary as hell!
I think the whole little short story that’s written about the video tells it all. I’m sure they had a good chance there was going to be an avalanche. First and only guy down the slope with a camera And an Avalung. I would have liked a Camera angle from the rest of the group that was still at the top watching the whole thing happen. And maybe someone should devise a “horizon marker” for skiers inside their goggles so if you do get caught in an avalanche, you’ll know which way is up based off your head’s position.
shit scary
My tummy was getting all tied up in knots looking at that one!
