iPod Games

With Apple announcing that the iPod’s are now supporting games, OS News have taken a look back at some classic games that have been released over the years and suggest ten that would be ideal for the iPod. Deciding on what games to port over to the iPod must be a tricky task, as the scroll wheel isn’t the most ideal control scheme for games. But saying that, OS News list seems pretty spot on.

Anyone considering purchasing a few games? Or is gaming on the iPod going to have the same bleak success as cell phone gaming has?

I might buy like…1…but not that big a deal.

I have my iPod to listen to music and podcasts, screw wasting the battery on games lol

I’d consider Chess, but howabout something that affects or is affected by the iPod’s music, ala Lumines or Amplitude? It would probably be a challenge to program, but certainly unique.

For that matter, why not just do Amplitude? It could even come with different sets of songs, by genre for example. Heck, Apple could turn it up to 11 by giving you downloads of the songs along with the game purchase.

I have cell phone games more than most of the multi-million dollar titles coming out today. Originality can still thrive on those platforms, and maybe we’ll see some people do interesting things with the controls on the iPod that could not be done elsewhere. Yes, the controls dont fit well for a lot of existing games, but you already played those games on twenty other platforms. Don’t you want something new?

I want the Tetris. Yes, I do.

Even if I had an ipod (gasp!) I probably wouldn’t buy games. I had some games for my cell phone when layover times were long, but the cell phone died and there went all my 12 some dollars worth of games. Lame for cell phones, possibly good for ipods… either way, not for me.

IMHO, there are too many options for playing games. Games on my phone. Games on my iPod. Games on my computer. I think the games are a neat addition, but seriously, who wants to play games on an iPod? Play games on an XBOX or PS2. Not on the iPod.

Yup I’ll be getting Tetris at least, I play solitare all the time on the bus so why not the game that first got me into video games.

Maybe in the US considering it’s mobile market is still in the stone age. Mobile games are a huge market in the rest of the world. We’re talking billion dollar market just so we’re clear.
Ubisoft has spun off an entire new company (Gameloft) that makes only mobile games and it’s doing VERY well on it’s own.

In know I’m toting the old man song, but: My DS plays games, my cell phone makes phone calls, and my iPod plays music (well media playback, but you know).

I likes it that way too. ;)
