Iron Man Concept

It looks like the Iron Man production is well underway, but not off to the best start. Attempting to get the look of Iron Man’s armour is proving to be a difficult task. Brandon Perlow was hired to create the concept for the Iron Man armour. But after meeting with the visual director of the movie, John Nelson, his first two concepts were rejected as they apparently didn’t reflect the overall direction that the movie was aiming for.

What does everyone think of the first two concepts? It’ll be interesting to see what final concept they evetually settle on, because the ones they rejected by Perlow are pretty out standing.

Looks ok to me. Although the picture you used looked very “power rangery” to me at first glance.

The other pictures on the link looked much better though.

  2. anubis

    the second one sucks ass

  3. Sushiman

The second is not as good as the first, but I think if they simplified all the little nooks and crannies in the armor it will get closer to what it should be.

  4. THX

Eh, the fans will complain about anything.

  5. Scipion

    I

  6. Lord Zeon

I agree, I like them both. I preferably like the second better, actually.

Like Batman, Iron Man had no real powers….
He was a smart man with too much money, it should be understood that the design of the suit isnt as important as the storyline, i would hate to see another Hulk, Elecktra, Catwomen or Batman and Robin (Dr. Freeze)

And by far the worst: Hellboy, god was that awful? (and yes, i question god on the quality)

The good and the bad balance to 1/2. Im just gonna consider myself lucky for not know the entire Iron man history, X-men was good but sooooo off.

The second set of pics really shows a lot of design work. That’s the problem, it’s too busy. It looks a little too much like The Green Goblin’s armor from Spiderman 1. The cross hatch patterns on the gold also give me a Spidey feel.

It worries me that every marvel heroe is getting greenlighted. It looks like they’re going to screw up ghost rider (there’s no way Hollyweird will make a movie that’s as dark as G.R. should be). I’m just afraid that some yahoo will cook up a script for Speedball before long.

    Great cg doesn’t fix a crappy story…..

Neither one really pops my cork, but then, neither one turns me off, either. If nothing else, they’re close enough that if those are the ones that were rejected, we’ll get a pretty good looking Iron Man, if they evolve the design in the right direction.

Of course, we all know the suit isn’t the REAL concern. The real question is, in how much of the movie will Tony Stark be drunk or hung over?

The first one looks like the one i remeber from the comics more. The second has a longer than normal human neck and it looks all andriod instead of a shell over a human. I dunno I wanna see how they do the story we all know how a bad suit can ruin a superheros image for future movies. *cough* Nipplesuit *cough* Maybe they have gotten the hint I mean look at Spidey, Bats, And even if ya don;t agree Supermans. BTW I love the black suit for spidey 3!

I say that the first one looks pretty damn spot on. The second one looks like one of the retarded Bomberman costumes from the 360. When Spiderman can be maroon, rather than red; the X-men are all in black, including wolverine in neither orange nor yellow; And Lex Luthor can have a grand scheme to STAB! Superman…the costume of Ironman seems inconsequential.

  13. ZeroCow

I like the first one, but the second is goofy looking. The big frown on the face just looks silly.

I think they should just do a concept like the original comic book design. Why do we need all these extra accoutraments? Just like Spidey’s costume didn’t really change, I think they should do the same with Iron Man. Otherwise he just looks like a guy out of Halo.

  15. Mr. Roboto

They look really good, and they can’t make a suit like in the comics because it’s hard to make a working body suit armor like that in real life and most times impossible.

  16. Den

The first suit is good, but the head is wrong. The second is good ish, but its still wrong both on the ehad and body

  17. Janko1776

I like the first one (but I think the head is a bit round). I think that it is fitting with the Ultimates style – new design with respect given to the classic. I would like to see them take the story approach that the Ultimates takes towards Iron Man. Iron Man is just the “super” alter ego of Tony Stark and is not limited to one suit. Since Stark is completely loaded (I’m taking about money- though the other connotation works too) he can afford to build several suits to fill a variety of tactical needs. This way they can but at least two suits in there and the fan boys can argue about which suit is better, not whether or not the one suit is the one they would have designed with their immense design skills.

I love it and I hate it at the same time. I’m in a fan dichotomy… Or am I just pandering to both sides? Hmmm… It’s a mystery! :D

Actually I liked them. But I’m sure I’ll be flamed for it on other forums…

    What, you mean this one?
