Red Steel

Red Steel was one of the most anticiapted Wii games going into E3. Sadly, Ubisoft’s shooter didn’t really deliver. People complained of poor graphics, disappointing sword action and overall sluggish performance. Well it looks like Ubisoft listened to what was being said. They took certain aspects of the game back to the drawing board, and in a very short space of time, changed the game for the better. Here’s the latest video of Red Steel, showing off some updated graphics, the new sword play and just how we’ll go around throwing grenades.

Please, don’t let the poor acting put you off. Is anyone planning on picking up a copy of Red Steel with the Wii at launch?

I think i’m going to wait till reviews for this one. I’m just a little concern with the controlling on this game, but if it was not even a factor; then perhaps I would pick one up.

  3. Allen

    It looks pretty bad imo.

  4. Velt Cardio

    Looks very cool.

… im in wii fever im gonna go grab a ds lite today just so i can connect it to the wii later on lol

  8. NeuroMan42

I think it looks sweet. From what I have been hearing about Metroid is the Wii finally brings amazing controls to FPS games. I hope so as normally I hate a FPS on damn consoles.

  9. Jared

i will to though probaly not till the holidays, i just spent all my $$ on the preorder and zelda

  10. Jaybo

I heard that to turn you have to point outside of the screen and pivot…

  11. The Scatman

yeah, basically you can fine aim and look at the same time, normally in a fps you have to move your veiw and fine aim with the same stick, holdinga button to go into aim mode, all this does is eliminate that.

I am looking forward to this game, but I’m still not sure about havnig to wave my arms around and look like a flamming spastic to play it.

Do I see that right that the nunchuck actually has the same motion sensing as the remote? In the part where he’s swinging two blades? Or do that just make it look like that???
I’m really loving how this looks though :D , and as for the looking silly flailing your arms around, heh, I’d probably put on my wrist weights and call it workout ;)

  14. JaFO

if the eyetoy games are any indication then you won’t need the weight. All you need is to make sure you need big movements to do stuff ;)

I still would like to play this kind of stuff ‘for real’ before I order anything, altough it does look like a lot of fun.

Yeah, it doesn’t really look like that much of a game really, more of a tech demo. I’m sure the control scheme is fun, I guess (jumping beind the couch was a bit much), but I really need to hold the controller and play the game before I make a decision.

As for the continued gripe on console vs PC FPS controls; I’m so tired of that arguement, learn a new song people. I sucked at Halo, hands down, I played FPS on PCs. It wasn’t the controller’s fault it was _mine_. Since getting the 360 and being forced to aim/move with thumb pads in nearly all the games I’ve played, I’ve gotten better. And for those of you still sitting up there on the high PC-horse, I found this article particularly interesting. It’s a preview of Shadowrun, the FPS that will be playable over Live Anywhere.

    From Game Spy (http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/shadowrun/733098p1.html):
“… Best of all, Xbox 360 and PC owners will finally have a chance to test their skills against each other. We were told that the game’s testing team is made up of elite Counter-Strike and Halo players, and the fact that it’s nearly impossible to tell which players are on which platform is a good sign that it’ll be a level playing field. “

Oops… That came off a little harsh and I hadn’t read Andrew’s comment. XD

That was in no way an attack on his comment. I’m also excited about the Wii controller. We’ll now need a game that pits all three control schemes and see how they stack…

  17. JaFO

The problem isn’t that one can’t “learn” to use the controller.
It is that one should not have to learn/fight the interface in order to play a game.

Nintendo has understood that perfectly by picking a familliar desing (a remote control) as the basis.
To me the Wii-mote + nunchuck-combo is the first real next-gen version of the keyboard+mouse-combo as it combines the ‘natural’/intuitive feel of a mouse with the analog feel of a controller.

I do wonder how left-handed people will handle the controllers as all images so far have been of right-handed persons …

  18. Rezlow

I “think” most buttons are placed symetrically (sp?). Of course, do many lefties remap their keyboards now? I think they are used to adapting (my brother does at least). But this may very well be the first controller to take that into consideration (or not, is the nunchuck molded for the left hand?).

I remember my brother struggling at first with the Atari controller: “But I can’t reach the button!?!”

“…the button…” The big red button. Man, that NES controller just about levelled us, with TWO buttons. Insanity, how will I know which one to push???
