How cool is that? We now have an official ExtraLife TF2 PC server, and you are all invited to get your groove on. Just don’t be shocked when my rocket ends up lodged in the side of your head sometime soon. ![]()
Here are the details:
Server Address: 72.5.250.127:27015
Server Name: Extralife’s TF2 Server
Teamspeak IP: 72.5.86.67:8966
So get on in there and let the cartoony blood fly!
Big thanks to Spencer, and everyone else who made this all possible.

Well, allright! I’ll be playing as an Engineer, my tag is =RD= Kal, and I’ll probably be acting like a total newb, since I’ve never played this online before.
huh? How can you play this game NOT online? :/
I tried to get on the server but it wasn’t able to find it. Is there certain times that it is up?
Is it down?
with the Bots messing up a few servers, and with GoldRush coming out… servers have been crazy…. tons of locked servers too.
I had to manually update TF2 on the server this morning. I think any downtime might be related to the update, and it not having it until this morning.
Can someone jump in the server and test it? There have been some widespread issues with the new patch, and I’d love to see how we are looking. I would test it myself, but I’m at work at the moment.
I tested out the patch earlier today, no problems so far. Goldrush is really fun. Hopefully the problems people are having get fixed quickly.
As far as “Bot” players go… never seen them. Maybe they are testing some single player AI of sorts?
Who knows.
Is there a night that people usally play?
Just got TF2. Look for… you guessed it, BlackguardSpork
Well I finally got the server on my favorites; too bad when I did, it was empty like the barren wastelands we all fight in.
I’ll be as Atlantis1982, yep real original there.
The server probably wouldn’t be as empty if whoever the admins are didn’t take it down/kick everybody when there are people on their playing. Been on their twice now where myself and maybe two other people have goofed off waiting around until there were around 8 people per team and we could play for real and both times we’ve all been booted when the server is shutdown/restarted for reason…
Kind of sucks when you spend and hour or two waiting for there to be enough people to play a game and then getting booted in the middle of the first game with enough players.
Well I am down for playing a bunch this weekend so hopefully I will see some of you on there.
I’ll be in there. If you’re a Pyro, you can plan on gettin blown up first
I noticed on Steam’s site today that TF2 is free this weekend. So anyone that doesn’t have it and wants to try it out go to http://www.steampowered.com and get it.
“huh? How can you play this game NOT online? :/”
I was just playing it with the commentary mode on, testing out the controlls, ect.
How the heck do you get the new weapons? Just ge3t achievements or something?
Fes, atm, only medics get new weapons, and yes you do achivements for them. Time to farm!
no freaken way I’m gonna get all 36… I still never got the “Play with 7 Friends” achievement :/
Actually, if anyone would like help in earning some achievements, add me as a friend, and we’ll try to coordinate some of these crazy achievements.
The non-hardcore gamers are going to be at a great disadvantage in the coming months… I just really want the new healing gun…. and of course… it’s LAST to get :/
Ditto Fes…
Add me as a friend just for s&g’s…
I wish they would have released new achievements for ALL the classes, instead we’re going to have a ton of medics running around this month… and then a bunch of some other class next month.
I just want to play the damn game, instead now I have three medics pumping me up with health – even though that dirty sniper is still capping my arse with a single head shot on 2Fort’s battlement.
Time to rocket spam his nook.
Achievements, sigh, I’ll just be happy getting the updated Bonesaw, and I can call it quits in getting achievements for the Medic. Some of them (like the uber 10 friends, heavy punching 2 idiots, to name a few…) are just plain dumb and have a paper-thin chance of happening (Unless that Heavy is really kind, and the other two poor fellows are too).
Anyway, I’ll be around when the server is slightly populated.
That’s the last item to get.
I managed to get 16 through my normal playing.
Find a few Achievement Servers. They are hit and miss, but I managed to get all of mine finished off in a couple evenings.
Well I feel kind of cheated getting them all; just ones that are impossible to get.
Anyway, I might come a bit picky, but … can we vote for maps that we all DO NOT WANT on the server? Like: Well(CTF) and Badlands for starters?
Hey, what time are you guys usually on, I found the server this weekend and nobody was on.
Hey, what time are you guys usually on. I found the server this weekend and it was empty.
I either find the server with noone on… and I spend time getting free caps
or I find it filled with people not from ELR
If noone is there, sit around for a while to “seed” it.
I’d like to point out its impossible to win toy fort, as the final control point on both sides is directly outside the spawn
The final point caps faster on that , so it’s like 2 seconds. and respawn is not instant.
HOWEVER, I have NEVER won that map on Blue.. I should say I’ve NEVER won that map on Red either… however, RED ALWAYS IN IN AN ADVANTAGE.
Mostly that the map is NOT identical. The rooms are Mirrored, and the doors are opened in such a way that Red always has a nicer, and clearer shot on the to middle point and room entrance than Blue does.
This is either intentional so Red has the advantage, or it was an idiotic oversight.
Would there be times when the server is more active? I Would love to play too!
That’s what spawn camping and demomen are for =)
Spawn camping is bad form.
Other than blind luck spawn camping is the only way to win a lot of custom maps, on top of which it’s not bad form in TF2, look at how the maps are designed, it’s intentional.
Well, it’s different if a user-created map is specifically designed for spawn camping. But otherwise all spawn camping is bad form. I’m talking right outside the exit doors spawn camping. I’m not talking about merely building within their base.
I also think that specifically, intentionally going for the same person all the time is bad form.
I dunno, maybe I’m just a newb for these things if these are common, acceptable practices.
*shrug*
There’s a custom map, that I can’t remember the name of at the moment, it’s egyptian/tomb themed, horus or something like that, where not only can you camp the enemy spawn, you can enter it (no door) AND build sentries inside. You think regular spawn camping is bad form, try spawning into a room with 3 enemy SGs over and over until you manage to destroy them
But even a lot of the official maps encourage spawn camping. You hardly ever win the 2nd and 3rd stages of dustbowl on offense unless you have teammates capping while other teammates are killing the defenders right as they come out of the spawn. If they thought spawn camping was such a problem they would design the levels differently.
I’m not calling you a “newb” or anything, just arguing that the game dynamic is a bit different than a lot of the other online FPS’s (which generally tend towards death match or other types of game where you can’t prevent a team from achieving objectives just by being physically present).
You want to win on toy fort, have two demos (for example) cover the enemy spawn while teammates cap the last point. If spawn camping bothers you too much TF2 probably isn’t your game, since there’s some amount of it on almost every map (especially att/def maps, def camps the att spawn at the beginning till the attackers push their way out/kill all the defenders and the attackers camp def spawn when they cap the last points, it’s just the way the game is played and there’s no bad form or anything involved as far as I’m concerned, it happens to me just as much as anybody else, but that’s the game
Sounds like I would hate that map with a searing hot, burning flesh passion.
Also, I guess I fail to see hos spawn camping in any of the Valve maps are “encouraged”. Possible, maybe. But I have never played a Valve map where Spawn camping was the essence to victory.
For the record, I don’t see spawn camping happen that much. Very rare in fact. But the beauty is that if I run into a situation where people are constantly abusing spawn camping, I just go find a better server.
It’s possible you and I have different definitions of what spawn camping is, but not seeing it happen very much in TF2 doesn’t sound kosher to me.
You’ve never played dustbowl and had the entire red team waiting right outside the blue spawn area when the match starts? Never had red waiting right outside the doors from spawn on Gravelpit? Or, again on gravelpit, had blue constantly killing red as the come out of the spawn while their teammates try to cap C?
And of course spawn camping/killing is encouraged by the design of the maps, the spawn is literally right next to the final cp on a lot of the maps, you either kill the defenders as they come out, or lose. There’s no other way to win the final stage of dustbowl as attackers, unless all of the red team is far away from the final cp and you happen to get lucky enough to slip past with a scout or spy.
I’m not trying to be sarcastic or anything here, but honestly you can’t apply the “rules” from other types of FPS (honestly though those rules were generally only in the minds of people who thought the game should be played a certain way) to TF2 (or objective type games in general). I remember all the whining that goes on in Halo about “camping” and such, but in TF2 the engy and sniper are designed to camp.
At the beginning of the game, particularly when there is a “Setup” period, that is different. Blue has time to build their Oobers and such before the counter begins, and they are not being mowed down in the process. Also, this does not last long to where the blue can;t even get out of the doors.
Anyway, this is expected and planned for classic attack and defend with a set-up time before the counter goes. Both sides have time for setup.
But other than that, I rarely see spawn camping… if I do, its *usually* one person camped out in the corner, killing people just as they leave the safe zone.
I’m not telling people that “OMG THAT’S WRONG, YOUR SHOULDN’T DO IT, JERK!”, I’m just saying that out of all possibilities, overall, Spawn camping is not something I agree with. But whatever. Like I said, I rarely see it, and If it’s a problem, I find a better server.
*shrug*
That’s just me.
It doesn’t generally tend to go on for very long, because once you get spawn killed once, you know the guy is there and then everybody ends up gunning for them so they end up dead pretty quickly.
The exceptions being:
If there is a really awesome sniper waiting for people to pop their heads out, it can be difficult to get out, but as with most problems in TF2, teammwork (one person plays decoy while another goes and kills/chases away the sniper) tends to overcome the difficulty.
And of course SGs. I’ve been on both offense and defense on the 3rd stage of dustbowl where blue couldn’t even get out of the starting gates because of good teamwork and SG placement.
Yeah, Scott needs to set up some sort of day for this and announce it on the main page so we can get some friggin people in that server.
By the way, my Steam name is the same as my name here, if anyone wants to add me.
Yeah I did notice that the server seems to be either empty or totally full depending on when you log on. How ’bout a party night? And can we lower the spawn time a bit? Just throwin that out there.
My steam name is DustinIrons.
15-20 second respawn is murder! I say, at maximum 10 seconds, or at least 50% of whatever the default is.
Agreed with DustinIrons. Anyone care to e-mail Scott on this one? I’m sure he’d play with us. (He DOES have this game, doesn’t he?)
I just got this for PC after realizing what suck it was for the 360 and I’m dying to try it out in all its PC glory.
And who says the fun has to end there? Maybe we should schedule a regular day out of the month or so for some gaming action.
I would e-mail Scott myself… but I’m lazy. :B
you should play Garrysmod.
