Every time I see his name I get him confused with Mickey Rooney.

  2. Andrew

    That guy is ooglie.

  3. Atomic

Good god, what happened to him?

  4. Scott

he’s getting old. that happens to people oddly enough.

  5. Lifeisaglitch

Could be pretty awesome. I can already imagine him and Downey being pretty badass opposite eachother on screen.

  6. wonder6oy

He’s getting old, sure – but there’s definitely some bad knife-work/nip-tuck/toxic injection going on there too.

    :-(

  7. Jean

Hmmmm………. they already did the “evil guy in an armor” in the first movie.
In comics you can do a billion of them, but in the movies it looks like repeating the previous flick.

In regards to Mickey’s physical appearance…

As a young man Mickey started out in life as a boxer and he was pretty good at it too. However he soon switched from boxing to acting. He quickly became a Hollywood A lister, however this status also came with a faster, harder paced life style that Rourke couldn’t handle. He drank a lot. Eventually he earned a reputation as being difficult to work with. His movie career dried up fast.

Mickey knew he needed to clean up, so he returned to boxing for awhile. He figured the discipline it required would straighten him out, and it did. He won most of his matches… unfortunately most of his opponents relished the thought of beating on a Hollywood star, at the end of it Mickey’s face required extensive plastic surgery. He spent most of his saved earnings from his film career to restore his face. He went broke doing it.

I believe that’s an old photo of him, he looks a bit better than that today.

I learned from Entertainment Tonight—-I don’t have cable, limited channels to watch–that after his acting career took a dive–round one–that he got back into boxing, which was one of his passions. Concussions ended that dream. I think he sustained like 4 broken noses and a broken cheek bone….all of which resulted in his current facial weirdness. Just thought everybody really wanted to know. If I learn any new really cool info on E.T., I’ll keep all posted.

    @Jean

The Marvel movies seem to stick to the popular storylines of their comics. X-Men did the stories that relate most to the Persecution of the mutants. (IMO)

One of the most popular storylines for Iron Man was the Armor wars. which dealt with Iron Man trying to gain control back of his tech that had gotten out into the world. The first movie opened with that plot line so logically the Iron Man movies would be inclined to go in that direction. Titanium Man is a logical choice for the movie

Another popular iron man villian would be Crimson Dynamo. I am wondering if they will do Iron Man\War Machine vs Titanium Man \ Crimson Dynamo?

  11. dman0001

Dang sorry – Where I said Titanium Man – read Crimson Dynamo and where I said Crimson Dynamo read Titanium Man – Crimson Dynamo is a perfect second villian to face.

  12. leafpicker

I figured the Mandarin would be the major villain in the next Iron Man movie, since they kind of set him up in the first one.

  13. mercator

Why is Iron Man the rehab of the movie world? Just because it worked once does not mean it will work again. Rourke has definitely had some major plastic surgery done, on a budget. Combine that with the need for every other member of the crew probably needing a tetanus shot to work with him… bad idea. He really sucks as an actor = worse idea. They are better off with Hasselhof, if they want old freakiness.

  14. wonder6oy

^ Actually, I’m REALLY looking forward to seeing him in The Wrestler (98% on RT = Good Lord!)

  15. Sebastiaan van Dijk

Wait.. “evil ironman in a nuke powered suit of armor” .. Deja vu much ? how ghay

  16. goodmatt

And I always assumed he was wearing make-up in Sin City . . .

  17. Energyone

I thought he was great as Marv in the Sin City movie.

  18. Chuck

At least the costumes department won’t have to spend any money on a mask… just a little makeup. Wonder if his plastic surgeons over the years will also be in the IM2 credits?

  19. CDRaff

I just saw him in the Wrestler, WOW, I vote yes for anything they want him to play.

  20. Jase

    Wait.

Didn’t we just HAVE a movie where Iron Man fights Evil Iron Man?

I thought we were gonna get to see the Mandarin.

Hell, the middle eastern gang was called The Ten Rings, for christ’s sake.

  21. Randallw

Perhaps they’re taking the Batman route. In the Nolanverse, as it’s called, it’s stuck in reality. Ra’s al Ghul doesn’t involve the lazarus pits, The Joker has no powers, and the next film needs villains without powers to be consistent. Likewise, ignoring the crossover stuff being planned, the Iron Man universe hinges on the only powers being technical. There’s no supermen so villains need power armour to pose a threat. They slipped the Ten Rings in as an in-joke but having someone with magic/alien power rings is too out of character for this version.

That said there is the crossover stuff. Captain America is basically a soldier on steroids (‘Remeber kids. Real heroes don’t take drugs’), the Hulk is steroids/radiation, and Thor is a god. It depends on how much of the crossover stuff leaks from film to film. Perhaps they all have their own universe but in the Avengers it will all be merged just for that.

Iron Man 2 is shaping up to have a stellar cast; plus John Favreau always does a great job
