Fans of the first Spawn movie, or the original comic book, or just a fan of Todd McFarlane, will get a kick out of the news that McFarlane has started worked on the screenplay for a new Spawn movie.
“The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years,” McFarlane said. “The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a standalone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary.”
Get the full monty here.

Did he write the last one? If so he shouldn’t write this one >.<
Do not want.
So is this animated like the HBO series or shitty like the first movie?
I think he did the initial writing but concessions had to be made to the studio I bet. I’m sure it’s in an article or something from McFarlane. But as long as it doesn’t end with a anti-climatic battle, I’m all for another Spawn movie that’s sure to have better special effects.
The first movie in 1997 was written by a man named Alan B. McElroy, a writer of poor quality, he makes B movies mostly. Although McFarlane did receive writing credits but only because of his work on the comic book.He didn’t actually contribute to the script much.
McElroy is known for his writing on such titles as Ballistic: Ecks VS Sever and something called “Wrong Turn” where a group of campers are hunted down by cannibalistic mountain men. So yeah, if McFarlane is in change of this new production it should be a hell of a lot better than the first. But he better get a bloody good director this time.
Well, don’t that beat all… I thought McFarlane died, alone and forgotten about five years ago…
Scott did an interview with him last year, for Extra Life Radio and The Instance.
It was an awesome interview.
yeah, you should hear that interview. Was really good.
I thought you discussed this with Todd back when you had an interview with him? Maybe a year ago? I don’t remember if it was ELR or The Instance, but I remember him talking about this and how he was doing it as indie as possible. He mentioned the last Spawn had too many hands on it, which turned it into the “less than wonderful” that it ended up being.
Am excited if this gets to see the light of day with his original vision in tact. This could be very sweet.
Well I was 13 when the first one came out but I kind of liked it and I still kind of like it today.
I guess I’m just special.
Very interested in this new one. With todays CGI and a better writer this could be just awesome.
Looking forward to this McFarlane is one of the best in the industry
I loved the comics in the past but the first movie was horrible! It just can be screwd up again, I would be suprised if not. Sad to waist such a good story into such a crap movie “remake”.
If it’s from the creator himself, then I take that on good faith. Simply because he’s putting his own name and skill on the line this time around.
