I was going to get the first book (Gunslinger?) via audio on iTunes, only to discover they have every book in the series except the first book. oh well, I guess I’ll have to actually read a book.

I only read the first two issues and I don’t really like the comic until now. The story is the same but the storytelling is way better on the books.

Rico, if you like King read the books. The comic will just ruin everything for you.

Read the novels. It’s King’s most expansive work. As it progesses, the story integrates characters and places from the entire King universe (including the author himself). It’s classic good-vs-evil with all the moral ambiguity and redemption that accompanies such a journey. It didn’t give me nightmares, but when you turn out the lights, and hear a small scratching you tell yourself it’s just a branch, but deep down you wonder what abomination crawled out of the darkness between.

The biggest crossover book series of all time. I think this series will go down in literary history as it ties almost everything Stephen King has ever written, and his own life, into one continuity. Genius. And he didn’t even originally plan for it to be that way.

As for the comics, I love the artwork, loved Jae Lee way back before his semi-crappy Image book, Hellshock. And Robin Furth runs a close second to King in terms of knowing this universe and how to write for it.

I’m 99% sure I read somewhere that this is just the first of several DT series Marvel and King have planned. I’d like to see the next one be a fully original story, maybe about some of the other characters like Rev. Callahan, etc.

OMFG, what rock have I been living under? I did not know that there was a comic book adaptation of this! (This must prove that alien abductions do occur!) I loved the Dark Tower books. I must check this out!
