The 13th of September marks the 25th anniversary of the Japan release of Super Mario Bros. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, the Mario games have been a huge part of the gaming world for gamers of all ages. To commemorate this, it seems there will be Mario Anniversary collection to be released in Japan containing: Wii version of Super Mario All-Stars, History of Mario book, and a soundtrack covering music from all the games. Will this be released in the U.S. in the future? Would be smart. So in celebrating our favorite mushroom eating, turtle hatin’, (sometimes environmental activist) plumber, what are some of your favorite memories/moments/games that you have from the mushroom kingdom?
Article…Here!

Call me crazy. But I loved Super Mario Sunshine. I got so many hours out of it and fell in love with the world. One of these days I’m going to fire up my gamecube and play it again. Also, after watching King of Kong, I went down to David and Busters and played Donkey Kong for 3 hours straight. What fun, made me wish I was around for the arcade days.
Mario, along with Kirby are two of Nintendo’s properties that I hate. I felt ashamed every time I plugged the stupid fruity games into MY N64 as a (over 25 YO) adult and started playing the games for hours. Too much fun in a juvenile package. I finished both games, if I had access to a WII I would probably have Marion Galaxy beat, and be looking forward to Kirby’s Yarn. (Kirby sucks and blows
)
I still don’t get the crazy math. They are only counting Super Mario Bros on even though Mario premiered in 1981 as Jumpman in Donkey Kong and even “Mario Bros.” in arcades is 1983. So really, he’s almost 30.
I should know, I was born in 1981 too. I wish I could pretend I’m still 25.
I was just thinking the same thing.. I was born in ’81 as well and couldn’t figure how they got to 25…
I agree but I think Nintendo is going for the ‘total package’ Mario, i.e. Mario Bros on the NES… I guess…
It still feels un-Nintendo-like. They are such people of tradition and seems unlike them to ignore the very reason they even HAVE a Mario. No DK being great in arcades, no Mario Bros the pipe game in Arcades, no Super Mario Bros on their first console.
The guy he’s named after still gets credit for inspiring such a legend and having it named after him.
@Cody, I totally agree with you there. It doesn’t feel right at all.
Living through the era of Mario evolution I have seen mario grow from the 2 color character to its amazing 3D graphics body. I have also played almost all the basic Mario games and have way too many memories to share.
Keep up the comics and awesome blog posts!

Which is your guy’s favorite Mario game?
Me, I think Super Mario World is the best!
Strange, but I love Mario RPG, it was such a different take on Mario Bros Universe and nice to have a Mario game with a story.
I know just about all of you guys have really high scores on a lot of Mario games, but if not you can still enter. I am having a contest for highest score on my blog: http://arcadeanatomy.tumblr.com/post/1125474001/mario-turns-25
