This looks soooo awesome! I am a huge fan of the original. The only downside is that my dream of opening an arcade called Flynn’s is prolly out the window, not like I could ever open an arcade anyway.
Oh boy…..geeky goodness….When I try to understand what’s happening inside a computer that I’m programming, it all looks like the “set” of Tron. It’s a beautiful thing.
I wonder if this will include or totally ignore the action from the Tron 2.0 video game. To judge from the teaser (which is usually a bad idea) it looks like it may be ignored. Either way, I’m there.
I’ve been waiting for this since I was fifteen. This looks darker than the original, and it’s nice to see light cycles in “wall mode” without being confined to a grid. Back in the day when I was starting to pick up 6502 assembly language and the neat hardware tricks the Atari 800 is capable of, I started to write a Blockade game (the ancient arcade game that inspired the light cycle sequence) and quickly turned it into a faster, higher resolution game I named Laser Racer. My father, friends, and myself spent way too much time duelling it out. Heh heh. When the first Tron arcade game appeared, I liked the cycle scene, but it’s meant to be human-to-human combat. Mwahaahhahaa!
Tron was ahead of its time. Hopefully the new one will be too. I will be at the premiere at OMSI’s Omnimax Theater for sure. Nothing like seeing a movie on an eight-story-building-sized dome!
The thing that time has allowed people to forget is that, absent the 15-or-so minutes of neolithic CG footage, TRON was a godawful movie. Like, Black Hole bad. So the question/concern here is if Disney is hoping to just cash in on a quick nostalgia buck, or if they’re actually interested in making a good movie this time around.
Sorry but I agree with Danno. Maybe it’s cuz the only time I saw it was in the theater back when it first came out, and I was already working in the ‘puter industry so it was beyond my suspension of disbelief.
TRON holds up better than you might think…after all, who’d have thought we’d have programs fighting each other? Now, we have spyware and spyware killers, viruses and antivirus packages…
Yeah, there are some things that didn’t hold up, but less than you might think.
As for “15 minutes of neolithic CG footage”, it’s more than that, and you have to remember that they used several of the highest-powered computers around in 1979 to do that work. (The movie was released in 1982, and the CG had to be done well before then.) I, for one, am quite happy that they chose *not* to “update” the look of the computer world in a way that was inconsistent with the original. I like what I saw, and expect that I’ll like the finished product.
O.O
I cannot be more excited for this.
Holy … pants

Holy crap…that…too awesome…words…failing…
I think I just peed a little.
But…but. The lightcycles don’t turn in 90 degree angles anymore… *cry*
Looks interesting otherwise
I have a sneaky suspicion that this might not be the end of the MCP…
Then again, I could care less, it’s TRON, bring on the Geeky Goodness.
This or Iron Man 2 would make great N2010 venues. If it is TRON however, you must invite the TRON Guy (http://tronguy.net/)…
Bah, that link got borked… try this one: http://tronguy.net/
you forget, I know the tron guy. he bought my original ink of the Tron Geek on eBay. Bet we could get him out.
Ohh i can see myself buying the Spandex and some LED lights…………………..
http://is.gd/1O4hF I smell man flesh
I like it all except for the hanging on to the ledge at 2:00. That made me cringe a bit.
Tron Legacy… hrm… me smell a squeal not a remake. looks friggin kewl. hopefully, they don’t muck it up.
Im in for next years Nerdtacular – this or IM2…

@ danno, I enjoyed the story of Tron and I thought Black Hole was awesome, so I don’t know what your talking about.
