“… the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about — in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it.” When directly asked if this was confirmation of Knights of the Old Republic Online, the executive said simply, “yes”.

Man, I don’t know how I feel about this.
I completely loved KOTOR. I wonder if there would be an extra charge. That is what I would be worried about, because I would want to play it so much but cant really afford and additional expense right now.
As long as it is not like galaxies.
But in the end, anything new from the KOTOR universe is going to be sweet!
Lightsabers and Force powers + BioWare = Win
OMGGGGG YES!!! Ive been dreaming of the day for the next Star Wars MMO and its finally here! SWG really kicked the bucket after some good years and now learning from there mistakes I think Lucas will take the best of all MMOs and put them in one giant package mixed with the fun of KOTOR… were all in for a hell of a treat!
Im a bit annoyed.
On one hand, i really like Kotor and bioware
on the other, i aint gonna play an MMO with a monthly fee…..
so yeah, where does that leave me?
Cathlimir:
When I started playing WoW I was skeptical about a monthly fee too. After three years, I can say that the amount of money I’ve saved on games from paying $15 a month and buying 1 game every 3-4 months versus buying a game every 1-2 months is HUGE. MMO’s have a way (for good or bad) of reducing the time you spend on other games.
That being said, if that monthly cash isn’t in your gaming budget, then I could see where that would stink for you.
If it’s got “Lucas” involved, I get really apprehensive.
I’m not allowed to talk to much about this, but I can say that LucasArts is only the publisher, we aren’t doing any in house development on this project, whatever it may be…
“As long as it is not like galaxies.”

heh, Bioware will probably make shure that it isn’t
This is good news, i was getting bored with all the crappy MMO’s out there, and even more so with the fact that most of them are Fantasy based.. Sci-Fi ftw!
SWG is what got me into MMO’s. Then the game was revamped and put a sour taste in my mouth so i went to wow. The idea for an mmo in the Starwars Galaxey itself is a great idea. I just pray they dont follow the path that SOE did with SWG.
SWG is a lesson in what not to do for an MMO, they made it different from EQ so all the people expecting EQ in space where pissed and left. Then they changed it to be more like what the EQ in space people wanted and the people that stuck around because they actually liked the original system got pissed off and left.
Bad project management all around.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
And the interblag imploded.
There is frequently talk on the G4 shows about which coming MMO will rise to become the WoW killer. Will this be it? I am not so sure. I loved KOTOR I (not so much II), but two questions about an MMO version linger in my mind…
1. Space/vehicle Combat yes or no? (This is after all Star Wars). The one differential that space games ‘should’ have over Fantasy games is vehicles. It’s the future (or Lucas’s past, but still) I should not have to hoof it everywhere.
2. What classes will there be besides Jedi? (And you know that 90% of the people will be playing Jedi) Bounty Hunter? Droid? Pilot?
Great news or not so great… I had a hard enough time kicking a WoW addiction. BioWare MMO will dominate me.
KOTOR can’t be an MMO.. It’s a single-player, story-driven experience. I think they’re just calling it a KOTOR MMO to bring the KOTOR fanbase in.. I doubt it will be anything like the games.
It’d be less of a KOTOR MMO and more of a Star Wars in general MMO.
I’m definitely interested. KOTOR definitely rocked. At the end of the day, though, I’m not quitting WoW and I’m not playing 2 mmo’s. I honestly don’t think there’s such a thing as a WoW killer. I still don’t know how it achieved mass appeal & acceptance, other than blizzard’s trademark attitude/humor & track record for excellence.
And @ Nick – qft.
So, no chance of ever seeing proper KOTOR3, with us getting a monthly fee based MMO in its stead? Gee, this whole “Bioware bought by EA” deal keeps looking better and better – I’m sure all this experience in creating linear, single player, story driven RPG’s with mediocre combat (seriously, combat was NOT one of their strenghts) will enable Bioware to create the Best MMO Evar.
Yippee. YO mumorperger.
I love CRPGs, and I adored KOTOR (even the incomplete second one), but MMORPGs represent the worst of CRPGs in my opionion. They surgically remove the parts I find compelling – strong character development & great storytelling. They replace it with a mindless level grind that goes something like this:
Kill monster. Loot. Level up. Repeat.
I tried WOW, Guild Wars, and LOTRO, and couldn’t get into any of them. Personally, I’d much rather see KOTOR 3 rather than KOTOR online…
Yet another MMORPG for EA to chancel before it goes live.
/me is a jaded gamer
Oops, that was supposed to be Y_A_, as in “yet another,” not YO as in “yo, dude.”
I’ve yet to see anyone quote this “direct question”. In fact, I’ve seen everything to suggest that they don’t want you to know what he answered “yes” to. The first sources all said “pressed on the issue” and he said “yes”. The second sources said asked if he was referring to KotOR and he said “yes”. The next generation started to suggest what the question was without quoting anything, followed by “yes”. Now, we’re seeing people saying it was a direct question.
This happens a lot. It’s called “the snowballing grapevine”… each one changing the story to what they “think” it said. Pretty soon, we’ll get people assuming their sources simply forgot to quote the question, when the question has never been quoted anywhere (with no reason why).
I want this so bad that I’m not going to let anyone lead me astray with fancy footwork. News lost my trust years ago.
I failed to ask, “Will someone please direct me to the quoted question, video or transcript?” Please, please, please!
Such a fine fine line between potential and suck is being walked now.
I peed a little I was so excited when I saw this, I hope I did not soil myself in vain. This game could draw me away from WOW…if it is real.
I am optimistic. I was optimistic about the prequel trilogy, and I was optimistic about Indiana Jones 4. No matter how craptastic the last 12 years worth of Lucas’ work has been, the fact that he created properties that so many years later still engender so much optimism in the face of evidence to the contrary is nothing short of amazing.
WoW has lost me with the gradual changes they made to the system (particularly the badness that BG have evolved into and the farmability of gear that used to be a badge of honour–no pun intended), and despite the perpetual complaining about the monthly fee model, I saved SO much money paying 15 bucks a month and not buying a new game in almost 3 years.
I loved KoTOR–the universe, the dynamics, and the clear cut good and bad guys.
I am optimistic.
I’d have preferred Jade Empire, but I guess KOTOR is okay. Actually, with my tendency to go addict on MMO’s I probably will avoid it anyway. I managed to stay out of WoW all this time…
WOOOOOO!!!
i have to say im dissapointed. MMO’s just aren’t my thing. i want another compelling story with the ability to alter the outcome. most of all i want to tie the loose ends of kotor II, find out what was so important that Revan dissapeared and that the exile followed. I want to find out what this threat is and defeat it.
