Every once in a while I am reminded that King of the Hill does not get nearly enough credit for what it is. I always find it funny, heartwarming, and consistent. It quietly keeps on ticking, while the world rips by. Any other fans out there? Watch this season on Hulu for free.

I had hope when the series first started in that it would breach new ground. It appeared that the characters would do something that no other cartoon had ever really done, age. This is what we had hoped when “Joseph” shot up thanks to puberty. But it never came to be.
“King of the Hill” is way past it’s prime. It’s tired. And all the recent episodes show it. “Ladybird” is deaf. “Cotton” dies. Mike Judge needs to shelve the show and get back to basics.
But I still watch the reruns on FX.
I agree, it’s a pretty good show but like you said it doesn’t get the credit it deserves.
I do not understand what people find in this show. I don’t know anyone who’s ever liked that show or found it even slightly funny.
It’s a wonder it hasn’t got canceled yet while shows such as Futurama and Family Guy did (even though Family Guy came back and so is Futurama soon).
At least it makes me close the TV.
I totally agree. It has been totally treated like the redheaded stepchild of the FOX lineup but yet is always a joy. I’d probably still be watching The Simpsons with it if TiVo had a clue about which episodes are actually new.
I think it’s all a matter of perspective. Growing up in a small town in Texas, Hank Hill was my neighbor, coach, etc… This is the only animated series I watch with any regularity, and it never fails to disappoint. Works on so many levels.
My dad has never watched an animated series in his life. We went through the first few seasons of this show and hadn’t shared that many laughs in a long time.
King of the Hill works on a much subtler level than it’s competitors which I think hurts it in a lot of peoples eyes, but is also what makes it’s fans (of which I am one) enjoy it all the more.
I do agree with Jack though, you have to be at least a little bit hick to really get it I think.
King of the Hill = great
I love this show, it only recently being coming out on DVD here in the UK so Ive been collecting!!
I just started watching it again the past 6 months… it really is good… Hard to believe it is from the same guy who brought us “Beavis and Butthead”
King of the Hill is one of the only things I will sit down in front of the TV to watch.
It’s simply that good.
This show is just something to watch when there is nothing on TV. Which that is a good and a bad thing.
I think it went downhill with the introduction of the Tom Petty character. I don’t know why they needed to dumb it down.
People seem to either love it or hate it. Not much in between.
I live in Nebraska so we kind of have a small town feel about us, and I think the show kind of relates to my area in a way, everything is chill here but we dont really have too many antics here as they do in the show. I usually manage to catch reruns after i get home from college classes.
I can’t tell if King of the Hill is really suppose to be funny, or serious; People act like the Hills, so sometimes it’s difficult to tell.
I’ve talked to a lot of people that like the show, and I believe Jack and TheGeek are correct. They all said that if you were from a small town or just plain redneck, it makes more sense. A few people would say they knew someone back home who was like every character.
GOSH DANG IT BOBBY!!
“How can you fail English, Bobby? You SPEAK English!”
Anyway, never knew about Tom Petty being Lucky’s voice. Don’t really like him much myself (Lucky, I got no probs with Petty).
is this site legal?
Mario if your talking about hulu.com YES it is very legal and an amazing site I suggest you check it out.
Final thoughts. Whenever my family drove to Dallas (The big city) my dad would always make sure the doors were locked once we entered the city limits. He’d also check his pistol. There was as scene where Hank took the family to Dallas and as soon as he sees the city limit sign, he gives Peggy a glance and locks the doors. I lost it, and my wife was looking at me like I was nuts. Like I said earlier, all a matter of perspective
I love King of the Hill – it is far funnier than Beavis and Butthead, (from which it got its roots basically) and American Dad (Family Guy clone).
The all time funniest line is where Bobby has to take a self-defense class and gets into the womans class where he learns just to kick in the nads after screaming “I DONT KNOW YOU ! GIVE ME BACK MY PURSE!”
i like king of the hill also american dad is very different from family guy
Im from the dark-age country that ppl call “Great” britain so i cant get onto the site , anyone recommend a gd ip-blocker for mac at also so i can get past this?
King of the hill rocks my boat mega-loads. People (not me, but ‘people’) have mentioned that Family Guy and The Simpsons regurgitate the same storylines, whereas Southpark and King of the Hill have been more unique and interesting.
Growing up among the people King of The Hill portrays, I can find a lot of humor in it. It’s a very clever show, and unlike certain tripe (Family Guy), it doesn’t have to go
over the top to be humorous…simply put, the show doesn’t
try to be anything other than what it is: a satire about
hillbilly culture. In an age of generic memes, weak storylines with nothing to offer but overused pop-culture gags (Family Guy, again), King of The Hill has stood the test of time.
This is why I read Extralife…because I think the government somehow gave us the same ideas…where’s my tin hat…
I wonder if anyone else besides me love Simpsons and King of the Hill, but view Family Guy as garbage?
Also, Futurama was good.
Long live Hulu.
My neighbors resemble some of these people. Eastern Washington for the win! Rednecks of the world unite, once you get your trucks started!
I recently,(last 4-5 months) have seen it for the awesome series it is. I now tivo it twice a day on fox. It’s awesome!
King Of The Hill doesn’t get that much, if any air time over the the uk, but after seeing the first few series when i crossed the pond to NY and back i’ve been collecting the DVDs off of ebay and so forth.
Definitely a delight to watch after the amount of family guy orientated cartoons around, king of the hill and futurama side by side, what bliss.
It’s an acquired taste of comedy in the uk, but then again so was Monty python.
I’ve never been to Texas (live in Ontario,California) and I find the show hilarious. It’s simply a great show I tell you what.
@Kip O’Neil:
Yes, Family Guy is garbage. The animation is incredibly poor, character designs are weak and anyone aspiring to be an artist should stay clear of its visual ‘style’. And that’s just my beef with its graphics. Beyond the surface, it relies upon nothing but pop culture jokes (most of which are archaic) and gags that only a ten year old mongoloid would find hilarious. I think a lot of people like Family Guy just because its ‘cool’ and rarely try to look under the hood of popularity to see if it actually has any value.
Back onto the topic of underrated cartoons, Mission Hill didn’t deserve the cancellation it got. I swear, out of every animated show out there, Mission Hill never gets stale. And it’s only 13 episodes long!
