…or is it? Considering going full color, but it would take me a while. What do you think?

As far as what this is for…just a new project I hatched. Good fun creative work.

UPDATE: For those interested, you can now purchase the medium and large size prints on the store page.

I kind of like it in black and white. More abstract that way. And the topic lends itself to that.

  2. DCorbin

I like it as is. I would be more inclined to purchase this version over a colored one. It reminds me of the doodling I would do in my notebooks, but a lot better.

  3. johnnybeme

yeah i like the black and white but I would say I would buy color over B&W!

  4. Mal

I’d probably be more likely to buy a print if it is in color

  5. Lucky129

I think it would class it up to at least have a few colored thingys. Just coloring the banana would be cool IMHO. But coloring the whole thing would look like wall vomit, so I think just some choice things or color it all, but make it kind of washed out.

  6. mefe

    thats a sick pic B

  7. RiZTiK

The print above is the coolest thing I’ve seen this year. I would have to see the light coloring and full color to make a pick but your the arts, WOW me!

  8. Samantha Jane

*hugs* offer both b&w and colour if you have time to colour it.

I would prefer a black and white though ^.~

  9. David

I’m so glad it’s finally finished! I think it looks good B/W. Like some of the other people said, it kinda lends itself to being more abstract which looks good in B/W. I think it would be cool to see a full color version as well though, just for the sheer awesomeness of it.

  10. Emanon73

    I will color it!

  11. James

I would say color it… but sepia style… like just two tones of one color for shading.

  12. Bearbutt

    Another vote for uncolored.

Back in my drawing days I used to make these. Always b/w (except for #1000 which was colored).

  13. Masterwabbit

I say go color, but keep it minimalistic. Like have it be on a monochromatic scale. That would be really cool.

  14. Tsukasa

Oh, the nightmares I will have tonight!

  15. George

Yeah I would just pick a few spot colors. They did a good job on that pictureka game

  16. Brandy

Sell it both ways. Honestly I wouldn’t mind coloring myself :)

  17. Eric

Noticed how it gets smaller in the top-left corner. There’s enough blank space there to put the top of your head and make it look like all that stuff’s just exploded outta it. :)

  18. Eric

    Yay! I found Mario!

    This *was* “Where’s Mario?” Right?

  19. Gandolph_Lundgren

    Black and white. It’s refreshing.

  20. chris knight

i do like black and white i might get some really nice pens and color it my self with one print and then hang the other one up

  21. Awlred

That does look pretty damn cool,

I think it might look cool with blue (Ball point pen-colour) lines and feint lined notebook paper behind, make it just look like something doodled.

    But definatly sweet

  22. Bronco

its awesome as is. reminds me vaguely of the movie poster for Dr Strangelove, http://www.fotos.org/galeria/data/576/Movie-Poster-Dr-Strangelove.jpg

  23. Eirah

This is fantastic, I’ve been staring at it for ages.

I can’t imagine how long this took you to complete.

B/W v’s Colour… you’ll only get 50/50 answers on that, because everyone’s taste will differ. I love the option of being able to colour it yourself tho. What a great idea.

  24. wolfgang

That’s cool, reminds me of the gapingvoid.com stuff, but with actual art :D

  25. Spellbinder

I would say to just color a few things. Just to spice it up a bit :)

  26. Chainsawhand

For some reason the B/W reminds me of the Spore Galactic Edition packaging. I like it.

  27. Shimoku

that is one amazing picture =D

  28. Eric

I guess it’s a matter of crunching numbers. If this is to be replicated, 1 color (black only) is cheaper. However, if something on the page is already in full(4)-color (like a logo or whatnot), it shouldn’t be too much more expensive to make it a full coverage (depending on the people who print it and the quantity — some may not charge anything different between small coverage of full color and full coverage of full color). Full color does seem to have a larger draw (no pun intended), but many things (like that ridiculous Bone cartoon) live on 1 color alone.

But given the following behind Scott, I’m sure that 1-color wouldn’t make much of a dent in sales (if there is any dent at all). I guess this is non-committal. What was Scott’s original intent? Color or no? If color, why is there the question of no color? What’s making him consider changing his mind? If no color, why is there the question of color? Again, what’s making him consider changing his mind?

  29. Axel

Black and white, certainly. Looks fantastic, great job!

  30. Liraco

    I say keep the B&W

…BUT why not do as someone suggested and only color a few items? Or maybe decide “I’ll only use yellow and blue” and then only give light hints of blue and yellow (or whatever color(s) you choose) to the little doodles that you want to stand out or that have that color in them.

I second that full color might equal “wall vomit”.

  31. Stephen

I think liraco is right, full colour might be just too much but either colour in the ones that you feel special. Or you can go sin city effect using only a couple of colours.

  32. Sarah

I think if you colored it, it would be come too busy, and may cause a headache

  33. VBStrider

Scott’s brain in black and white.

  34. nevets815

i like it the way it is now

  35. EyeOh

Fantastic, Scott! Like Bearbutt, I used to draw this sort of thing, almost always in b/w. For what it’s worth, I created a 24×36 piece in color, but I’ve never liked it as much.

  36. Ringo

It looks like a promo poster for Kevin Smith’s art show, Crazy 4 Cult

    http://www.stuff88.com/images/c4c_2007_poster_xl.jpg

  37. Benjamin

I think leaving it as is would be fine, that way people can colour it or not, depending on their preference and display location. It’s beautiful btw, I love it :-)

  38. mercator

    Braindump.

Like binary, keep it black @ white

Though the idea of coloring one thing would be kind of cool, but which thing???

  39. bart7374

I think you should offer both black and white, and colour, if you were willing to put in the time.

  40. Griss

it reminds me of what i use to do to my book covers back in school. though mine never had a uniform look like that as they were done over the course of the school year with diffrent pens and markers.

    really cool work scott

  41. Bluenoser

B & W with a box of Crayons would keep me entertained for hours. :)

  42. Izaak

I love it! From farther away it reminds me of old 40′s and 50′s magizines, but up close the detials really blow your mind.

  43. Dourgrim

B&W, I’ve never bought a print from you yet, Scott, but this might be the first..

  44. Dave_nab

    I want one :-)

  45. Bearbutt

Another reason to keep it b/w:
    .
This is pen & ink line art. Coloring it would remove a lot of the lines, and distract from the variations that are interesting in the lines. It would become a lesser work.
    .
I will definitely buy this as b/w. Probably would not as color.

  46. Paintguy

Hmmm… I scanned over it a few times and there is not a single female on there. Wats up with that? hehe

  47. Matt

Maybe colour it but with the opacity reduced, and/or only using pastelly colours. Only using a few colours is a good idea, too. I’d probably buy a print, but would want to see the finished colour before I chose.

  48. Scott

There are girls in there. Look harder. :)

  49. Bibble

Love it as-is, in black and white.

  50. Zeke

    *20×30 print ordered!*

Now if I only had a wall to put it on…..
