Sad news…the voice of nearly every movie trailer you have ever heard died at age 68.

The man was a machine, said to have done around an average of 60 promotions a week, sometimes as many as 35 in a single day. His voice will always signify a period of cinema history, his baritone always remembered by people of my immediate generation as being a warm-up for the main feature.

Sad news indeed there :-( I always associate his dulcet tones with the big epic movies I go see in the theaters…he will definitely be missed and mourned.

  2. Lord Zeon

Aww, this is indeed a sad day… And at 68, too? That’s almost as bad as losing Douglas Adams at 49. This is a sad day for all…

  3. Anonymouse

It’s creepy, the last words in the video are ‘I’m gone’ and then there’s a sort of contemplatative and sad silence.

  4. Wolf

And now Pablo Francisco has to come up with a new gag. Not a day too soon, either.

  5. Jake

    poo :(

  6. Davad

It is sad. And Wolf, thank you for the name, I was just thinking that Pablo could do it the same, but I couldn’t remember his freaking name.

  7. Vastust

    Wow man, that sucks

  8. Lifeisaglitch

  10. ninja187

Going to the cinema just wont be the same anymore :(

  11. bunnyrut

what’s going to happen with all the trailers? i don’t want to hear someone try to replace him, that would suck. RIP

  12. Hypocracy

So sad to see such an icon go.
The interview was odd though, you hear him talk and you constantly think it’s the voice-over…

  13. Danny Burleson

Wow, that’s crazy. Trailers and promos will never be quite the same. :(

  14. Redsword

That is too bad. He was my second favorite voice over actor (after Scott Fletcher).

What is “pneumothorax” that he died of?

Was he the voice over actor for “Dark Knight”?

  15. Bearbutt

That would be my dream job… except I don’t have the voice. When he says “You’re looking at the luckiest man in the world”, I believe him. Always been a fan of his.

  16. Esta

He was a funny guy too. Good sense of humor, amazing voice.

  17. Lucas N

oooh…. that is SAD! He is the guy that could make the most trivial and blend sentence sound extremely cool. The level of awesomeness granted by his vocals will go unchallenged for a long time!

    Farewell Don!

  18. Girkon

Now I can never hear a movie trailer ever again. No really…..to think that there could be anyone coming close to his caliber of work is just too sad to think of.

  19. Lifeisaglitch

    @redsord

    Collapsed lung..i think, not sure.

  20. dman0001

  22. HECTORtheTURTLE

Definitely the end of an era. He will be sorely missed.

  23. Masterwabbit

Dang it, 2008 is taking all the good people with it!

Sad to hear of this. His voice will surely be missed. Peace be with the family and friends of such a great man.

  24. Agent Eggroll

You hit the nail on the head Masterwabbit.

Movies wont be the same now.

  25. Scott Fletcher

He said it himself several years ago: “If you want to get into the voiceover business, you’ll have to wait until I’m dead.” [or some similar phrase]. He was a giant that invented the genre. He will leave a giant vacuum in his absence.

  26. mercator

Pablo Fransisco should do the voice over eulogy.

A fitting tribute. Heck we’ve all but grown up hearing that voice in movies, TV, and so on.

    Godspeed, Don.

  27. NSMike

The video and the man made me laugh. And no one will forget his voice. A fitting legacy, and I could only hope to be remembered a tenth as well. He will be missed.

  28. idogis1

I feel like a piece of the world just died.

  29. Greeken

rest in peace sir don, will miss you at the cinemas

  30. Traitorfish

Aw, that guy was THE movie voice guy. World just won’t be the same without him.
