The video was to show off the new Cinema 21:9 LCD TV. Quote: The TV delivers impeccable high definition picture quality in a native 2560x1080p resolution. Check the video URL for more stuff. Supposed to have ambient lighting come from behind the TV as if you were watching it at the theatre. Really cool video to show off the TV I think.
oh for god’s sake. just as most of the population finally got around to buying a 16:9 flat and the stations are actually broadcasting in same format all we need is another new format. it’s getting ridiculous. and since blu ray finally won the hd war…i think it’s time for its successor.
now don’t get me wrong – i’m all for new technology and stuff, but gimme a break. i ain’t got THAT much money, but if anyone around here does – feel free to donate to my checking account…
I think will be a while before everyone has them, they showed this on The Gadget Show, and when it was showing a standard 4:3 picture it looked silly, even with a 16:9 picture there were still bars.
And i personally hate having the TV doing the “stretching the edges” functionality, so tend to zoom in a little rather than stretch.
It only functions correctly when you give it a letterbox format, and it was generally a huge set.
With Mr. Ledger dead, this can be Batman three. Clowns everywhere, running wild. The Joker can be in the background, never seen, but heard, or just Joker clues everywhere, all while dealing with Scarecrow and the Mad Hatter.
Please Mr. Nolen, no replacement Joker, but keep the psychological horror alive.
very very interesting and at times it is as if you can hear the ‘sound’ of the event as well (like where the cop ‘crashes’ through the window you can hear the glass in the soundtrack as the camera moves)
and indeed who cares if the scenario is even remotely possible it’s so damned cool to imagine what must have been happening during the shot. it’s like the ‘timewarp’-episodes on Discovery Channel. extreme slow motion can look very very interesting.
Oh … and anyone else reminded of the opening scene in Swordfish ? Same general idea …
Reminded me of the credits from Watchmen, if all they do to get that slo mo effect is have the actors hold a position while the camera moves through them, then that’s really amazing they can hold still like that. Very cool.
I think its interesting how you can only really clearly see the faces of 2 people. The guy at the beginning/end and the guy on the floor, which he stole the clothes form. Everyone else is either wearing a mask or is obstructed by a gun or goggles or something else.
Also, other than the 2:19 length of the video, the number on the cop car is also 219.
So I showed this to a co-worker … and he told his brother (who does something with 3d computer-graphics) … and he told him he had done some work on this movie and the ‘making of’-bits. The clowns are all dolls apparently. Only the (breaking) glass is a 3D effect.
I don’t know what the purpose of the video was, but it was cool.
I don’t think I’ve ever held my mouth open in awe for that long before… awesome find!
Ok yeah that was amazing. Cool Idea

Really cool video to show off the TV I think.
gah. guh. *blink*
Where’s Batman when you need him?
O_O
How the heck did they manage to do this? Obviously CGI helped, but just HOLY FREAKING COW, man…
http://www.cinema.philips.com/
watch it here, during the video there will be 3 points in the timebar where you will be able to click, to see some making of
Notice the video length… 2:19
@Bigbang
Good eye.
Oh and btw If nobody makes this movie i will…
As if I needed another reason to be slightly afraid of clowns, after Poltergeist.
I want one!
Really cool.
…
Though, if they were trying to make the scenario probable, they failed. Heh.
two words for this:
ray
tracing.

For a cinema effect i recommend a projector
I don’t care if this was made to off show a new Cinema 21:9 LCD TV.
I want this game now! Full muliplayer, yes please!
Yes yes I know it is not a game, but hey one can dream right

wow, would make a great game. some of the scenes (hospital) reminded me of L4D but with clowns with guns, and lots of ‘splosions. Very nice….
Wow. That was cool. I’m still terrified of freakin clowns though.

Can’t stop watching this, btw.
Impressive ad, but no ta as far as 21:9 ratio is concerned. At this rate, we’ll eventually have TV displays that are 3 metres wide and ten cm high…

coincidence ? you betcha.
