I will get back with pictures and thoughts on the film. Then its off to a few comic book stores for free comic book day.

Post your Iron Man thoughts here! Try to stay spoiler free if you can.

See you in a few hours!

UPDATE: Back, and have a few things to say, and a few pictures to show. Click the link below to see it all.

Wow. Just, wow. This movie is really really great, and works on many movie levels: Action, thought provoking story, great acting, and popcorn fun. If this is what we can expect from Mavel Studios moving forward, we are all in for some special films. Absolutely a must see if you are on the fence for some dumb reason. In the end, this movie is in Batman Begins territory as far as my favorite comic book movies go. Makes me wish these same people worked on the last Spiderman. Simply wonderful.

In the theater, just played two Tetris DS matches where I simply dominated. :) I am the one with the horrible additional neck rolls I am not used to seeing. That guy next to me? Mark, the other guy, from ELR back in the day for long time listeners. Behind is is the ever faithful, Scott Dewar.

Collin, a dude who’s name I forget, Daniel (a regular reader), me (with the flash sensitive grey happening on the sides), and Mark, hangin’ in the lobby, yo.

Chatting it up outside with Mark and Collin. By the way, that IS the July Nerdtacular theater we are standing outside of. :)

I brought the kids and a couple of their cousins. Fun!

Great time was had by all. Hope you guys enjoyed the movie as much as I did!

Make sure to stay AFTER THE CREDITS! You don’t want to miss it :)

  2. Bendy Walker

Argh, I freakin’ left in the credits >.<

But yeah, great film. The special effect were awesome, and it’s like ‘if only it was real’ sorta thing. Really enjoyed it :)

  3. Nick

Much better than a number of other Marvel films. I hope they keep making them like that. And yes, make sure you stay after the credits.

  4. smashpro1

The movie seemed to move at a slow pace, but the action scenes were eyes out of the sockets, jaw on the floor awesome. It was also much funnier than the average comic book movie

  5. supersamurai

    FREEEEEE COMIC BOOK DAAAAAAAAAY
what an awesome day to watch an awesome movie

***WARNING: ONE LITTLE TINY SPOILER AHEAD!!!! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!*****

I found the movie to be quite fantastic. I also agree, STAY FOR ALL THE CREDITS, you will not regret it. Also, the way certain points in the movie were shown, I can definitely smell a sequel. I mean, here’s a excerpt on the Wiki of War Machine proves it: “War Machine has been a featured character in the Iron Man animated series and The Invincible Iron Man, and is portrayed by Terrence Howard in the Iron Man film, where he teases towards a sequel by briefly associating himself with a solid gray Iron Man prototype suit, saying “Next time, Baby”.
As soon as everyone saw him do that in the movie, we all knew that a sequel was in place. I would give it a good solid 5/5, cause the action was well coordinated, the comedy scenes we actually funny, and the visual effect were spectacular.

  7. Liraco

Best superhero movie thus far! So good I saw it again the following day. :D

I’m now officially not caring much for any of the other superhero movies just cuz I’m expecting them to not be nearly as awesome. Make more like this instead of junk like Fantastic Four & X-Men! (I’ll clarify that I thought they were fine, especially X-men but… I wouldn’t care to watch them again.)

Also, I hope you got a kick out of “Next time, baby”. ;)

  8. Tantalus

I also thougt it was great! Robert Downey Jr. did a great job. And woow Pepper Potts is HOT :)
    I didn’t stay until after the credits… missed it…

  9. Arabella

Saw it last night with My Sweet Thomas, and was enjoying it greatly, when the film actually broke! I didn’t even know that still happened. We had to wait for the collection of teenagers they have working at the theater to come to grips with the non digital technology, and fix it. After almost an hour of waiting, hey we don’t have kids and if we had left and went home it would have meant accepting defeat, or even worse folding the laundry, they got the film up and running, and I can tell you it was all worth it. I’m not just saying that because the theater gave us free tickets for our trouble. The movie rocks! Robert Downey Jr. is sooo yummy as Tony Stark, girl geeks need pinup material too, and a billionaire with a hot metal suit will do quite nicely thank you! The effects were great no weird transitions from physical effects to digital, it’s seamless. Two big thumbs up.

I too, had to rush my 5 year old to the potty and could not stay through the credits…What did I miss?!?!?!?!?! Well crap I guess I have to go see it again….sigh.

  11. Lifeisaglitch

Great movie! Directing solid, script golden (Source material vise, comedy vise and referential) even the love subplot was pretty good and the acting was brilliant. CGI was great and so was the pacing. a definite 9 right up there with Batman Begins. At first i was afraid that the massive advertising (lot of trailers) had sorta ruined it, but trust me it has lots of badass scenes that were never shown. Character development wasn’t even as clumsy as i had thought.

Also the extra scene after the credits…

  12. Thedeadmonky

excellent movie, great acting and definately great action. my only complaint i have is that toward the end, it got a little too close to the Spiderman movies, with Mary Jane compared to Pepper and her attachment toward Stark. oh well, 5/5 from me though

  13. jevon

what is after the credits? i saw it today and i have to say it was freakin awesome!!!!

  14. Rufus Jenkins

Have already seen it twice and still had as much fun the second time. I gotta find me an Iron Man action figure.

The movie has me wanting to go into the archives and catch up on my Iron Man history.

  15. Donny Mantra

Spoiler Alert! Do not read unless you want to know what happens after the credits.

Samuel M.F Jackson shows up as Director of SHIELD and wants to talk to Mr. Iron Man about the Avengers programme… sequel is defo on the horizon.

    DUN DUN DUN!

  16. Laura

I saw it today as well! and it blew me away! i loved it! hope everyone else enjoyed it!

  17. Chris Knight

I am going to see this later today I can’t wait! and if i ever get the chance to go to a nerdtacular i want yo shake your hand Mr. Johnson and then play some ds with everyone!

  18. Pliskin

lol i wonder how the next movie will be because iron man dies at the end

  19. qodopob

Me and my bro were at a special pre-screening in our country (organized by local MTV) and while the credits rolled, everyone started to leave and we soon found that we were the only two who were still sitting there expecting for something to come. I told him that I would laugh if there actually would be anything.

    And I did laugh :D

Just in case you missed it, I liked it a lot.

  20. Rico

Very, very good. Robert Downey Jr. made the movie and character his. Iron Man hasn’t been a huge favorite character for me and I’m a big Marvel comic fan. But this movie was wonderful. Lots of fun. Also, I see the potential for them to take the story and characters deeper with the next one. And I’m sure we will see a sequel. Great fun at the movies!

  21. krasch

I liked it. There was not as much action as I thought there would be, but thats fine. It was more the story of how he became Iron Man and such.
I was entertained all the way – but it did feel a little long.

  22. Jeff

Pliskin, I can’t believe you just blew that for everyone who hasn’t seen it yet. Having said that, I’m amazed you didn’t notice that they set it up perfectly for his illegitimate son that we never knew anything about to step right up and fill in for the rest of the franchise.

Oh, wait, I’m thinking about something else there. :P

All nonsense aside, I loved the movie. I was surprised by how funny the movie was. DEFINITELY more humor in this movie than in the three Spider-Man movies combined.

  23. Jeff

One negative I will say, the visitor at the end… probably should have gone with different casting. I heard several people in the theater, “Oh, hey, it’s __________” rather than focusing no the character. It was a little distracting.

  24. Randallw

That actor was chosen years ago. He said himself who he wanted to play him in a movie.

  25. mrrodgers

    “Next time, baby, next time.”

    War Machine FTW!

The Stan Lee cameo was great. (“Hey, Hef”)

  26. mrrodgers

Oh, I almost forgot about Tom Morello.

  27. Captain Hillbilly

    Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler

Did ya’ll notice the name of the gang that iron man was fighting in that far away country? Kinda cool who the villian will be in the next movie!!!!

  28. weslink

Simply an amazing movie. I had no idea that Vader was Luke’s father. No idea at all….

  29. Chris Knight

Yes jeff! I agree he has be come a caricature of himself and I am hesitant to see the upcoming movie when all i see is him. Also me being less experienced moviegoer I saw a lot of a character that this visitor was in another resent movie.

Overall i thought this was an outstanding movie very fun very action-ee good flick. go and see it if you haven’t! I am just scared for what is coming next….

  30. The Progn0sticator

I’m glad I didn’t make the drive down from Idaho, cause if I got photographed next to Scott, I’d look like a dwarf, dude, you’re freaking tall! And I know you’ve said it multiple times but daaaaamn son.

  31. Jase

Did you remember to watch the scene after the credits, Scott?

  32. Jase

Holy crap, the terrorists are called the Ten Rings

This means the Mandarin and War Machine are in the sequel

…….hm……Ten bucks says Crimson Dynamo is the big baddy in the final installment of the trilogy.

  33. Dan

Sweet, Scott saw the movie with Stone Cold Steve Austin.

  34. Blair in West HollyWeird

Saw it, Saw it again. First time the staff was saying as you got your ticket… “Stay for the Credits”
Good thing I had a geek with me to explain some of the stuff only geeks would know about IronMan.

Now I have one question that until it is explained kind of makes to movie not as enjoyable.

If Tony Stark was smart, was building more and more weapons and making the company more and more money, what was the Villians motive for… (hmmm, don’t want to spoil it for others).
So why was the Angry Man very angry at Tony Stark?

Also. A friend pointed out, if Tony is so smart, why didnt he invent something that can pull the shrappnel out of his body without killing him? (just a thought)

    Thanks for any legit feedback.

  35. Sebastiaan

Z0mg The other guy is Stone Cold Steve Austin!!! :)

With all this raving going on i should probably go see this iron man thing…

dangit Dan you beat me to it ;)

  36. Offlink

I came *this* close to seeing it on Friday…showings were sold out until 10:45.

  37. Osphere

It was awesome indeed. You also have to love that Obidiah was played by The Dude!

  38. smashpro1

    ****************SPOILERS**********************

For people that were upset about Samuel L. “MF” Jacskon playing Nick Fury, consider this: the Nick Fury of the Ultimate Marvel universe was modeled after SLJ, so the casting makes sense

  39. Corellon

Also it is confirmed that Tony Stark is making a cameo in the new Hulk movie…I wonder what two of the most brilliant minds in the Marvel Universe would try to work on together…Oh yeah The Super Soldier Serum!

  40. Rob

@ Pliskin. How did he die? I didn’t see Iron Man die. I saw (spoiler alert) Iron Monger die though. If there’s not an Iron Man 2, there’s going to be Avengers! Sweet!

  41. Jeff

Smashpro, I realize that, and so I know on a certain level it does make sense. It still just seems to distracting.

Blair – Only thing I could say about the shrapnel is “plot device”. Perhaps in the future he’ll find a way to remove it, who knows. As for why angry guy was angry, pride and greed. He felt that it should have been him getting all the recognition and alcolades, and that Tony was ruining what he felt was his due to the press conference he held after getting free.

  42. Jables

    @Rob: He was kidding.

  43. Jose "From Wisconsin"

Good movie, keep them coming Marvel.

  44. shotdoc

wow! saw it the other night and loved it. Good fun movie. And you can tell who are the true DC/Marvel fans…they stay to the end of the credits. Out of a packed cinema there were prolly only 20 ppl who stayed!

  45. RealUnimportant

I loved the movie, but I gotta say something on behalf of the non-American readers of the site:

Damn you Marvel for *only* playing the SLJ clip in US (and possibly Canadian) theatres! We, the rest of the world, are denied… :(

  46. Icesnake

Where are the rest of your wives, Scott? ;)

  47. Cyclone1969

aint seen the movie yet but everytime I hear references to ironman I think of the old hammerite adverts we had here in uk :P

So do ya think Mr Stark Protects agianst rust ?

  49. PurrNaK

They cast the DUDE as a weapons dealer. That’s so freaking wrong. he’s great in the roll, but I kept thinking “Don’t pee on my rug man…”

  50. CDRaff

Very good movie, tons of fun! Glad Marvel took more control of these things.
