I remember when this album came out, one of my buddies told me “Oh it’s actually really good!”

    He was a liar.

Shatner replaces Jarvis Cocker, interesting idea. :)

  3. RiverRatMatt

You should really give it a second chance. “Has Been” is an incredible album not just for the music but also as a spoken word look into Shatner’s personal life. That and it has Henry Rollins in it which adds +100 to Shatner’s already off the charts Awesomeness stat.

Makes me want to watch Sealab 2021.

Wonder if they’d ever do that to the Star Trek cartoon…that’d be interesting.

  5. mercator

umm… so that is a real song and album? I’d rather watch the ballad of frodo again…

    ok maybe not…

  6. SergeantSalad

How can you do a spoken word version of a rap song?

    He found a way.

  7. Pete (UK)

    this is AWESOME!

I bought “has been” when it came out. Not sure why. I think I heard a bit of it on NPR. I loved it and still do. But for some reason I can’t convince anyone I know to jump on the bandwagon. I guess you have to realize that this is a spoken word album and be able to “get behind that” to really enjoy it.

I worked at a music store when this came out. I wanted to torture my employees and threw this on. I was stunned how good it was, we sold out that day.

I have a great TNG mashup I did around 1994. Need to convert the broadcast tape to digital sometime & post it.

‘Has Been’ is awesome, and really very moving at certain points, especially if you take the time to listen to what he’s saying. It’s been a long time since that awful cover of that awful Beatles song.

Other than that, why do all (slight exaggeration) Trek fan projects have an undercurrent of the Kirk/Spock ghey?

  12. yusecki

Excellent! I love the lip sync on it too :)

  13. Rico

Good song by the Shat, but I like listening to it better than it blended into animated Trek episodes.

  14. Dane Bramage

    that was shatastic!

  15. Wungy

Great song, I picked this CD up because of the musical genius of Ben Folds first, William Shatner second.

To all those celebrities and politicians who claim to be helping the “common people” (or worse, claim to be “common people”), listen to this song. *shoots the finger to them* Right here, buddies!

As for the video… I started tuning out the video for some reason. I only realized there was a video again when Spock’s foot sunk into the ground.

  17. xadrian

I enjoyed that a lot, thanks Scott.

  18. Bearbutt

Even when I was little, I thought the animation was completely crappy… which lends itself very well to putting any kind of words and music to it. :)

Hehe, not as weird as the alice in wonderland mash, but good nonetheless, brings back memories.

if anyone wants a non-addictive free MMORPG to play click my name. Its decent. Not as life consuming as the pay ones, but you can still harvest ores to make healing talismans, make potions by collecting herbs, etc etc. Just watch out for the pinoys, they tend to go overboard and make it to where you wanna e-strangle them.

Back on subject, i remember a customer putting a william shatner cd under the scanner and blasting it full volume. I remember one of the people i was training asking “they called that music, hes just talking”. Then i retorted, “and you think they are singing when they rap? Just cause he aint talkin about his bitches and hoes dont mean he cant try.” The customer who put it on just laughed after hearing that.

    What the deuce?

  21. Diego S.

I liked it xD of course pulp’s version musically speaking is better but tis one was like more.. dramatic and I think it really goes with the lyrics

  22. Dustin

Has Been really is a quality album. Ben Folds is such a spectacular producer, and he’s the single reason I’m still proud to be from North Carolina.

I have all these cartoons on VHS…classic.
