That’s because you’re watching a camcordered video that was uploaded onto youtube. Don’t get me wrong… it does look pretty real, but take a look how it REALLY looks: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/30396.html
I agree with realityintern2007, it does look really good, but I think when you see a non cam version of the trailer you’ll notice some of the defects, and when GT6 comes out, you’ll look back at GT5 and go “wow, I used think that looked good!?”
PS3 – bleh. I don’t like how it was alot of the same footage over and over, but wow. Good graphics. I assume the reason for driving like a total idiot (or average teen in my neck of the woods) is to show it isn’t normal footage.
However, the fact that a Lexus was keeping pace with a TVR and a Ferrari was proof enough. Even if it is an IS-F it still won’t touch those cars
This is just the “tech demo” they’re selling before you can actually get GT5. a 37 car game for $40 but the full version will have 60 cars.
The fact that the guy is drifting in mid-race and everyone isn’t reacting to it should be evidence that this is a video from the game. Though the handi-cam footage off a monitor doesn’t help show off all the detail. Though they’re finally flexing in how well shaders can be programmed to make realistic looking cars.
My god that looks terrible! Fair enough, the models of cars were pretty, when it slowed down, and stopped drifting, but everything else looked god awful… That smoke?!?? I got better smoke from LFS2
And the model still looked dodgy whenever it rolled, the suspension dynamics and physics were way off what a real car does. Definitely doesn’t make me want to go and buy a PS3 that’s for sure. Mario Kart on the Wii will do me lol
I..think…Forza 2…Looks better…plays better…is just better. I have played every Gran Turismo…and the handling – game control ratio is a joke…I find it cheesy and way to sensitive. Just like MotoGP…it just sucks. and the fact thats its on PS3….yuck…lets use the lame, under developed sixaxis controls to drift like no other because I accidentally didn’t bring it back to a perfectly flat 180 degree holding position…gag me.
Calling footage of a game fake has a point how? A game is fake no matter how you look at it, and saying its a cutscene, well, GT5 has no cutscenes that look like that as far as I can tell. I am not defending the PS3 here, but I have a 5000 desktop (Brand new setup) which doesn’t run half as fast as a ps3′s core speed, as such it is unlikely to come to the desktop scene without serious cutbacks.
Holy crap! Don’t know, though… looks “too real” to me. Maybe it’s my age, or old-schooledness (yes, that makes sense to me), but I kind of want my games to look like games, I think. Then again, ten years ago I prolly would have said the same thing about the likes of Burnout Paradise, which I’m having a blast with.
There’s one thing that really screams to me that it’s CG:
The camera. They kept the car in almost dead center in some of those shots, and with others they turned slightly to follow the vehicle. Any human behind the camera would be slightly delayed, or trying to anticipate it, or in the case of slight changes of position, he wouldn’t turn the camera at all.
Once they work in a “human” algorithm to the cameras, it will be indistinguishable from actual shots.
Let me put it this way: If the only game machine on the planet was made by Sony, I wouldn’t buy one. Sony has been caught not once, but twice, deliberately and knowingly distributing rootkit viruses on consumer products.
Buying from Sony is no different than buying from gold spammers in WoW. It’s support of a criminal enterprise.
I’ll wait for Twisted Metal, thanks. I prefer my driving games to actually be fun. If I wanted to play a simulator, it would be in a plane or something, not something I get into every day.
I got to say awesome graphics but it is still a sim, like someone else already said. Sims of racing suck IMO. Give me Burnout Paradise anyday over any GT game ever made or will ever be made.
Graphics – Totally with you 100% – It looks freaking amazing! Those sky and landscape shots are beautiful!
Gameplay – I see nothing new here, except the idea that the AI will react to you. Besides that, all of the “new” features they talked about are things that I’ve seen before.
There’s a point between okay it’s got fairly real physics and holy crap I wish they had my car on there.
1988 Mazda 323 GT 1.6liter DOHC Turbo
If that was in the game I would go and buy a PS3 just for the game.
It’s nice to see at least 1 game finally coming out that uses the system capabilities. I’ve been a fan of GT for a while, but seriously it kills your skill playing any other game. And it’s still not like driving a real car.
WHY oh WHY did they have to try and drift the entire time? “Gee, look, we can slide the car on a straight! We’re COOL” . . . GT has always been about DRIVING, real driving. . . so why not actually DRIVE? Show the corkscrew, for cryin out loud, with suspensions getting light and then loading up hard. . . it’s a GREAT corner and would have to be a better demo than a friggin straight with a Lexus wiggling its butt.
Too bad it still doesn’t make me want a PS3. That says a lot cause I loved GT 1 and 2. Oh the good ole’ days. Can’t wait till they hit the PSP.
First!
whoa, that vid is amazing. That game is gonna rock, visually.
FAKE =O
wowzers
meh. Realism is overrated. Give me a game that is fun and totally unrealistic, and you can have my money.
Why must it be on the PS3?!? I want this, Little Big Planet, and nothing else! Why must God be so cruel?!?
That’s because you’re watching a camcordered video that was uploaded onto youtube. Don’t get me wrong… it does look pretty real, but take a look how it REALLY looks: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/30396.html
@vgaforums.com: “Why must God be so cruel?!”
Well, that’s the way he rolls.
@MoonWalker: Absolutely, I mean, look at O.
@vgaforums.com: “Why must God be so cruel?!”
He knows that you don’t need it
I agree with realityintern2007, it does look really good, but I think when you see a non cam version of the trailer you’ll notice some of the defects, and when GT6 comes out, you’ll look back at GT5 and go “wow, I used think that looked good!?”
is it me or is the video gone
oh its me sorry

Put it on the PC baby!

Again with the ‘prologue’ … can’t they make a real game anymore ?
And unless it’s got damage-model it still can’t come close to both Forza & Project Gotham Racing … IMHO
you can tell it’s fake cause the tire smoke disappears too fast.
Addik: … and appears to sudden.
So there’s snaking in GT5? I HATE snaking
My god that looks terrible! Fair enough, the models of cars were pretty, when it slowed down, and stopped drifting, but everything else looked god awful… That smoke?!?? I got better smoke from LFS2

Now if only I had a Wii……..

lol! – So I guess they’re still working on that new sixaxis steering mechanism!
If this is game footages, it looks like it’s hard as hell to control.
Also, I hate GT because of the lack of good good damage… Screw actual licensed cars. I want damage!!!
Bring on The BURNOUT!
Holy crap! Don’t know, though… looks “too real” to me. Maybe it’s my age, or old-schooledness (yes, that makes sense to me), but I kind of want my games to look like games, I think. GT game series has always pushed the limits of realism, especially visually. I’m still giddy when I play GT4 on my PS2…
But it still doesn’t get me giddy enough to jump on a PS3.
Whoever is driving sucks though…
gulps.. that is a shocking amount of realism in a video game.. Poliphony are really pushing the machine through it’s paces it seems..
wants!!
bad!

im sure if that was on the 360 it would bring a few of the consoles to their knees, RROD I mean.

Dude’s driving like a retard… presumably to show off “OMG we has smoke and dust”
Question is, for all its pretty, is it fun to play?
Love the way you all slate the crap out of the game simply beause most of you cant play it.
This has to be fake :O
I thought the PS2 version looked pretty hot, still a hard driving “simulation” (i think they call it)
Sadly jump button or red shells to throw, maybe they are saving that for GT6
CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG CHOOO – CHOOOO (or insert your own train whistle)
man this has lowwwwwwwwwww framrates (yes i know its a tech demo)
So what? Gran Turismo still sucks mah balls.
Come on Mario Kart! Eat my red shell you bitches, ahahahah!!
I’ll wait for Twisted Metal, thanks. I prefer my driving games to actually be fun. If I wanted to play a simulator, it would be in a plane or something, not something I get into every day.

dude i am so buying a ps3 for that but dose anyone know who sung that song sound sweet
Half Life 2 almost looked real in places when it was filmed off screen too…

Boomer, you beat me to my post.
I agree. This is stupid.
Technology demo, maybe.
