Very very awesome. When my wife and I were dating I would take her to the final recitals of the graduating music students at the university(UNM), free to go watch(lots of people do it so it is cool.), and makes you look super classy to the date. Very good Dinner and a Movie substitute.
Hi! Wow, I just sent the video to Scott. Didn’t expect him to link it. Yeah, I’m just a regular reader/listener, didn’t contribute a lot to EL so far. The video is an excerpt from a concert I had with my string quartet. We also play other things than classical music. Rock for example or musical/movie music. Stuff like that. My girlfriend, who plays the second violin (not in our relationship of course ) can also sing. My sister did the filming.
Thanks for all the lovely comments. I can understand if you do not like it. My teacher didn’t for example
That…just didn’t sound like music to me. The violin sounded like a lot of really rapid high and low notes in quick succession. I guess I just don’t have an ear for music.
Dude that was amazing! not my kind of music but i can certainly appreciate the skill and dedication that it takes to play like that. You should come and play at Nerdtacular!
i would love to learn to play the violin but alas, the only ‘skills’ my fingers have are spamming my devastate/heroic strike key with the occasional thunderclap and shield slam button mash. And even those aren’t that good
Man I can tell how many non musicians are commenting:) Really fine performance, the only comments I’d make would be that I’d like to see alittle more variety in articulation, and I think you can do more with the character changes between the variations.
To my ears it seems too many notes are flattened, and harmony between the instruments isn’t quite there in places, but time, obsession, and practice are all that’s needed. Felix is to be commended: few people can play a Paganini piece, and he’s going after the greatest violinist who ever lived.
I like the mini-bow he brings out at the end, and he was hitting the notes better with it–I’m guessing because he was more relaxed and having fun.
@Juddson: Paganini was like the Eddie Van Halen of the early 1800′s – violin playing was never the same after him, and others complained about his use of artificial harmonics and other techniques I’m used to seeing with modern electric guitar playing. I imagine they didn’t like it because they couldn’t do it. Anyway, look around Youtube for Paganini’s violin concertos for an idea of how he wowed the public with emotion mixed with fire, and look for the caprices to see how he wowed other musicians with really insane playing! You gotta love a guy who did things like break strings on purpose during a song and play most of it on the last string, staying in tune the whole time.
Mad Bassist has some good points, but Felix is 96% there. The gap between flawless and OK is sooooooooo slim, especially at that tempo. (Is this really the place for a critique?) Well played, Felix.
Aye, 96% works for me too. I’m an uneducated musician–I understand the notes, some of the chord structures and scales, but I really would like to get some music theory under my belt, as well as reading and writing. I do kill on rhythm though–it’s essential when playing physically demanding music (the kind that makes people jump off stages!) . Maybe this isn’t the place for a critique, but I have this strong desire to inspire musicians (and anyone else–we all have some kind of artistic talent) to push their limits and go further. Felix has a lot going for him, and my basic message is “go for it!” Play Caprice #5 for us someday! *extends index and little finger* . Maybe someday I’ll pick up a violin, or knowing me, a double bass. Then again, those are a bitch to carry on the bus.
Good job Felix, that was really impressive. I like how Scott’s not so removed from the community that he doesn’t bother to pimp their stuff and interact with them one on one, that’s the best thing about ExtraLife.
Just Awesome!
Ok, he’s very talented, but I’m missing something, is he a regular contributor to Extralife or has he been mentioned on the podcast or something?
“Das geht noch 5 Minuten so weiter…”
Hahaha, well played nonetheless
@Durinn – Not missing anything…just a regular dude that visits the site. You only wanna read or hear about web celebs?
Fuck web celebs … no offense scott ^^ This guy is awesome … you’ve got some talented fan

Also great for kids(if they are well behaved). Took my Cousins after a day of museum visiting.

Rock on Felix, awesome skills!
@ Felix: Do you guys do any experimental stuff?

WOW
Felix, that was absolutely stunning. Bravo!
Well done, Felix!
*goes back to the video to check out the girlfriend*
DOUBLE well done! Good on ya!
I was expecting the ELR theme or something.
@Scott, no that’s fine, just wasn’t sure how he was connected. I kinda expected him to break into the ELR theme. =P lol

Who says metal started in the 1970′s?

@Scott Fletcher – 2nd that.
@Felix, from a professional musician, I say to you sir, “bravo”, well done, and great poise under fire!
Keep on ‘sheddin, and I look forward to seeing you at the top!

@TheChao shall i try to record a moto perpetuo + ELR theme medley?
