All those news talk shows that are on the 24-hour “news” networks usually just degrade into a whole lot of speculation and discussion of the extreme reaction they’re trying to portray to what they felt is offensive.
It’s almost as if you could relate these people to the same forum trolls on the WoW forums that feel anything Blizzard changes is a travesty against humanity.
Why do news stations, especially Fox News, broadcast such a crap? Is it because they don’t have anything better to talk about? As Jon stated, there ARE better things to talk about, just look at international relations. They don’t have to make up something “exciting” and “shocking” just to get their audience to watch them, because there is so much better material in the world that doesn’t need any exagguration. That means that Fox News are either against blacks, against democrats or just f**ktards.
Don’t worry about the planet – worry about what country you are in No seriously – we (Austria) have one newspaper that is about as bad as those News-Shows – and everyfuckingone reads it and gets influenced by it. I don’t know what you could do do stand those things. Sell your Tv? Hang in there! It’s just a few more months
I’ve gotten turned off by the Daily Show lately, but this was priceless. Who cares what’s on the cover of the New Yorker? Maybe if they’d toss Arthas or Master Chief on there…
Politics needs people to remember only what they’re told to remember.
I think it was great that this was published. Not because it’s true (though I can’t say anything beyond that I don’t believe it’s true), but because it allowed someone to spotlight the hypocrisy of the media.
And yet… people will still believe the misleading “paraphrasing” as if it were quoted from news sources regardless (just like a very recent article that failed to quote a question and quoted only an answer — direct question my behind if nobody’s willing to quote the question).
I’m only saddened by the fact people will forget because they’re not told to remember it.
sevenclev, Wolf Blitzer is the name of the guy who was saying that taken out of context, the cartoon looks like it could have been on the cover of a neo-nazi magazine. He’s a “reporter” on CNN, I think it is.
They hate the cover, yet in constantly talking about the cover, they are selling the magazine. All the New Yorker had to pay was the commission to the artist. That’s what we call great marketing.
Wolf Blitzer is just a random choice of words americans think were: A) perfectly normal german B) related to WW2
Truth is: Blitzer *IS* a german slang word, but used for speed traps. He (or his writers) tried to do something funny with the word “Blitz” (lightning), because of the socalled “Blitzkrieg”
Wolf is the german word for wolf, which has been used for some buildings in WW2 but get’s way too much attention for what it stood for.
Frankly, I’m rather tired of jokes aiming at my language that don’t even get near a correct grammar. I don’t mind jokes at our expense, but at least use the right words, please – everything else just let’s YOU look stupid.
Daily Show is the only ‘news’ I actually watch. The rest are RSS text feeds. Thank you Hulu! Oh and thank you Scott for pointing out Hulu a few months ago. I’ve lost hours and hours to that darned website!
i always love the american presidential elections, its all mudslinging, realy ironic to see the “leaders of the “free” world” and the news stations trying to pull their viewers to one side by just talking crap.
Everyone who did a story on the New Yorker used it for his or her own ends. The Daily Show is no different from the rest of them. They used the cover for comedy and satire. That’s what The Daily Show does for money. Sure, we might appreciate it more, but the product we consumed sold advertising. The motivation in doing the piece was the same as everyone else’s.
I don’t normally watch the Daily Show but that was one of the funniest things I’ve seen on TV in a LONG time.
I’ve known the mainstream media was stupid for along time, this just confirms it. The problem is that they’re so in bed with Obama that they get offended whenever anyone or anything tries to paint him in a bad light, even if it is a CARTOON!
Wow. Forget the whole New Yorker angle, how can the news networks (and I use the term lightly) get away with slandering a Senator like that? Not to mention that this particular senator will probably be the next POTUS.
In England I honestly can’t see that happening without consequences. News stations here don’t really push an agenda to that extent. The BBC in particular can be so neutral sometimes that they sound almost apologetic. At the same time the press in the UK does a much better job of actually asking difficult questions of politicians and pressing them for an answer.
The more I see of American news the more amazed I am that people actually watch it and are influenced by it. No real content, no evidence of research, no counterpoint to an argument, just throwing out wild claims and hoping they stick.
Ironic that the New Yorker was criticised by the mainstream media for parodying what they have all been guilty of doing!
Actually the viewership for the American media is at an all-time low. I don’t have the stats on-hand but I read somewhere that the news industry is suffering as a whole here in the USA.
Freakin hilarious!
That was great
Wow, now I know why I don’t watch news shows.
i have mac-n-cheese on my monitor now….yay!!
Daily Show rocks! It’s no Colbert Report, though…
*hopes that doesn’t start a pointless flame war*

I get all my news from the fake news.
I am speechless in awe. “…because you know who gets mad at offensive cartoons?”
So glad I don’t watch TV…
Who the crap at the networks thinks this is a big deal?
What planet are they on???
Sheesh – what planet am I on?!
Geeze I totally agree with the guy. “Let’s report on this cartoon instead of the important s— in the world!”

I honestly don’t really like the dally show 99% but this is funny. “…because you know who gets mad at offensive cartoons?”
And god when did John Steward get old? Hes got more gray hair than Scott.
Don’t worry about the planet – worry about what country you are in

Isn’t it rather tragic when a society has reached a point where a comedy show is the voice of reason?
And still, instead of discussing “important stuff”, networks discussing crap are discussed…
By the way, can someone explain the “Wolf Blitzer”?
I’ve gotten turned off by the Daily Show lately, but this was priceless. Who cares what’s on the cover of the New Yorker? Maybe if they’d toss Arthas or Master Chief on there…
The “serious” news shows are so awful (I haven’t watched one in 20 years), that a comedy show is more reputable.
Hilarious should have been Barack’s reply. Laugh at the media and you become America’s champion.
Politics needs people to remember only what they’re told to remember.

This doesn’t work outside of the US. Lame.
They hate the cover, yet in constantly talking about the cover, they are selling the magazine. All the New Yorker had to pay was the commission to the artist. That’s what we call great marketing.
Is the Daily show the last remaining sane thing on American TV?

Actually, Sir Richfield, Wolf Blitzer is a host on CNN

Nice find Scott.

Herr Richfield missed the joke entirely because he’s too German.
