I think a partner would be something cool to experiment with. You may find that you don’t like it after a while. Since you’ve been so used to working generally on your own, a partner in crime may be awkward.

It probably would have to be a new comic, if you didn’t want to change what Extralife is.

Would definately be something that would be cool to check out.

Yeah, Dragon*con is this weekend. And I’m sad that you aren’t going to be there because the chances are that I’m going to go there. That would be awesome if you could make it, but from the reasons that you stated in the podcast, I understand. V_V

I don’t think getting a partner now would be wise. Although, I do think getting a place where others work under you to help you bring this web comic together everyday would be pretty choice. I say if you put your energy into anything, put it into that. Because that would be more worth while than introducing another creative element to the mix. The thing about the partner is, it’s been done several times before. Your funny just being yourself, man. Not to say it’s bad to get outside ideas or opinions on jokes, but to try to bring a new person it would be, as Sandy J put it, awkward. I don’t know about another web comic, that would just give you even MORE stuff to do and you sound like you’ve already got a lot to handle what with the site and a family and all.

Well, I hope my input helps. Keep up the awesome though. Take care. :D

I think it’s almost a given that if you were to take on a partner, that you would either have to work with a new property or somehow “reboot” Extralife. I think that in the long run a new property would be the better way to go, mostly because Extralife is associated with just you and some new partner would be seen as superfluous.

Think of it like doing other podcasts. You have ELR, The Instance and Infendo, and for the most part, they are somewhat separate and self contained. So a new comic with a partner would be along those lines. I think it would also be a very liberating move from a writing standpoint because there would be no preconceived notions or ideas. Of course it is somewhat daunting task, which would require a lot of time and effort. And it seems like you are a pretty busy guy already. Whatever you end up deciding to do, best of luck!

I think the best thing – when it comes to partners – is to take one on from the beginning. Personally I think it would be hard to have a partner come in after so many years. You would be INCREDIBLY lucky if you could find someone that is so willing to work with you that they don’t want anything changed.

If you want to take on a whole new project, then sure, you could probably find yourself a good partner for that. But in order to find someone to join your ranks in what you currently do, it will be difficult.

Personally, I’m just starting out in the webcomic bis after enjoying such comics as PA and EL for years I figured it was time to give back and start my own. Got a whole ~10 readers per day and all, woot! But, what I see that other comics have that you don’t have is a consistent character base. I believe Mario is your most consistent character, where PA, PVP, C+A+Del and the like have a character base that has grown over time, characters you can relate to such as Gabe and Tycho. I think you have done just fine so far on your own growing ExtraLife into a fabulous community. I’ve toyed with the idea of having a partner in crime, but I can’t imagine any of my friends to be dedicated to my work as much as I am, unless I am sharing profits with them, but there aren’t any profits to be had. But, if you are planning to grow this into a business then you will need partners to bounce ideas off at least.

I’m just a lowly webcomic novice so don’t listen to me, I love ExtraLife and the constant content keeps me coming back. Maybe all you need is a partner to post news stories and such to take that burden off you and keep things fresh while you are on vacation(s).

You need a silent partner. Someone who contributes money to allow you take on the job full-time.

Well I don’t think there is a determined number of “slots”, it probably just depends on how many good relationships a person can handle. Still, it’s true that to have a really great partner it’s gonna take quite a while to build up that trust and make things click, not to mention you both have to want to go in the same direction.

Maybe your time for a good work partner just isn’t there yet. In my case I’ve been incredibly lucky to have my girlfriend (and future wife) be my partner in crime for work and so far so good. Sure there’s problems here and there but things just have to be worked out, it’s never gonna be perfect as I’m sure you already know very well.
