Sins is a great game, but it does require some micromanagement to actually dominate.
Played Sins, didn’t like it..
Sins looks great but the micro-management crap is just damn annoying. I can get that in EVE or other RTS games. I will handle it for Starcraft 2, but overall I detest RTS games.

You’re not alone. I’ve been playing Sins, and I love it, but it is hard as CRAP for me too. I suppose Andrew is dead on about the micro-managing, but on the whole it doesn’t SEEM like you need to micro-manage all that much…
I’m with NeuroMan42 on this one. I never got the RTS thing Micro this Micro that..

there is a homeworld 2!!!! my brother and my best friend play it all the time!
The Warcraft and Starcraft RTS games are the only one I ever finished, and that was because of the story. I have always tried various RTS games and always leave frustrated and bored about 50% through them.
i know there was a homeworld II. I played it.
I mean since then.
I played Sins, found it too expansive for me.

Sins actually requires very little micromanaging. Most of the fleet managing is automatic, as is building placements, and stuff like that, if you want it to be. The main problem with it is the lack of good starter tutorials. The ones they provide really don’t tell you anything at all, so it takes a few games to work out what on earth is going on.

Played Sins (the demo) just before I saw this diary entry, I don’t know why I even try anymore, most rts games today are way out of my league. I wasn’t able to defeat a easy enemy in a 2 vs 1 match.. the enemy had only one planet and still he was wooping my ass.
Guess rts games just aren’t for me, yet somewhere still like to play them..
You have to develop your military up in order for you to survive. once you’ve captured the nearby planets, you should have the start to be making up your fleet. 4-or-so Military labs and 2-3 Civilian research centers.
I played thru 90minutes and survived a few fleet decimations with selling some of my materials on the black market to make up for the lack of produced items I wanted built.
I just tried the demo of Sins, I’m pretty crap at RTS games myself, being more of an FPS nerd. But i’m actually really enjoying Sins, even if i am crap at it, the slower pace makes my big dumb brain happy!
Though I’m sure I’ve only scratched the surface with this 90 minute time limit on matches for the demo. Very tempted to buy it.
I’m really liking the ability to play around with the maps. For those of us who have difficulty getting started, you can set up a map with as many players to a solar system as there are planets and with as many solar systems as you can dream of. My personal favorite is 4-8 large solar systems with 10-20 planets, and 4-6 players.
Hm… a game that makes everyone feel that they are crap at it.

I just picked this up about a week ago and this is a complex game. Not only did I have to go through the tutorial (much to my shagrin) but I keep discovering screens in the game for upgrades that I have never seen before!! I finally beat one of the smallest scenarios (after the third try) and I realized there was another screen where you can add another capital ship and expand your total fleet capacity!! DOH! There is just a lot going on and a lot of screens to do it from. I do really like the game so far (now that I’m figuring it out) and I was feeling like I was getting too old to figure out these new fangled games! =)
I started this game ironically on Saturday myself. Normally I don’t mind (even enjoy) some micromanagement. I think the game does as well as it can as far as organizing your fleets etc but there inst enough feedback when you complete research etc. Half the time I was going into my research screens and just queuing up everything I could so I wouldn’t forget. Seemed Like every time I moved my fleet more than two planets away from my home base it got attacked too. I am going to muddle through it though cause its alot of fun. Sorta like DoW was to me at first, and I still play that weekly
That is true about the research. They really need a research queue somewhere showing you what order things are being researched, and allows you to change that order if you really need one particular upgrade.
As for your fleet getting attacked, combat is the point of the game
. However, if you build a couple of scout ships at the start, and set them to auto discover, they will automatically fly around getting intelligence on other planets in the game. This will tell you the general setup of the system before you actually take over each planet, allowing you to see where the enemy is, how big a native fleet each planet has, where the choke points are, etc.
Another point related to being attacked is that if you don’t keep on top of the pirate bidding, you will be attacked by them. However, the higher the bounty gets, the bigger the pirates get. What i try to do is keep them off my back by outbidding the enemy as long as possible, and build up a good fleet. once the bidding gets out of and, like 5000 each time say, i move in and destroy the pirates, before regrouping and starting my main assault on the enemy.
