No matter the tweaks and optimizations we’ve thrown at the boards, the bottom line is simple: PHPBB 3 does not scale with the growth we are experiencing. There is easier way to see it.
So, I went ahead and threw down the cash for the paid board. vBulletin is known to be the most scalable board in existence, and should be worth the cash. We are in the middle of converting all existing data, user info, etc…soon, all will be good. Should have done this a year ago.

Really? I’m not a fan of vBulletin at all, but I’m wondering why you switched. Your forum userbase cannot be that large. It’s able to handle one hundred concurrent users fine, unless of course it’s configured badly. It can handle more than that obviously, but I’m just estimating your forum hits.

Seriously, I’m not familiar with vBulletin so I’ll be interested to see it in action. It’s safe to say that phpBB is seriously goofy (especially when it comes to their MOD concept of extensions), so I’m not completely surprised by this.

Nada. Nothing in the spam folder since yesterday. Unless the board pre-emptively mailed me information on how “CIA spies master seven languages” at that time, I got nothin’.
The board is letting me look around signed in. The spam settings on the email account are standard with delayed deletion of spam and no “rules” set for any incoming email beyond black/white lists. I have to get around, so I’ll check back later.

vBulletin is a great way to get paid support, fast security updates, and just achive a higher level of performance you just can’t get with open source.
forums, especially popular ones, are huge resource hogs – one inefficent php script can thrash the web server, database server, and create lag all over. vBulletin has been around for ages and really is worth the cost of admission.
