There’s this neat game out there on them Internets called flOw. It’s pretty interesting. Apparently it deals with flow theory, something having to do with having fun. If nothing else, it’s a pretty neat looking time killer. Sort of reminds me of Rez.

The game is great fun. Been around for like a year. I hear you can DL it for the PS3

  2. ZaXorZ

how fun is it? I’ve got a chem exam tomorrow, and I spent 2 hours playing and i didnt even notice!

  3. Propane

haha I have no idea what you’re supposed to do =D Swim your little being around until you eat everything?

Seems like you can get into a dark or a ligth world by eating continiously a speacial type. Their direction is marked by a blue or a purple cycrcle.

  5. Pirateguybrush

To swim deeper, eat a red one. To swim up, eat a blue one. They don’t make you grow though. To attack something bigger than you, or any of the larger creatures, eat their circular parts. If they eat yours though, they get them back. Once they have no glowy circles, they die.

  6. Pirateguybrush

Click the mouse to go faster. The red and blue things send off signals to their location. Look for blue/red rings.

Last time I played i got to the second stage (the round thing) can you go to the next level ?

The game is great, especially when you hunt the really large ones ;].

Its addictive lol… once i realised u start again as a new creature once u kill the boss… Ive been hooked! thats the big pay off

  9. Pirateguybrush

Once you kill the worm at the deepest part as the round creature, that’s the end, but there’s no real thing to tell you that.

  10. Activus

This is a lot like the first levels of Spore that they showed at E3.

  11. Rezlow

I found it uninteresting and kind of boring. The theory is interesting, but any time you try to generalize something like “fun” or “taste” or even “enjoy” you invariably lose something… I guess I’m just one of those things this time.

meh. if you want to prove this theory try playing oblivion. it’s funny to me that someone is trying to define ‘fun’, as though it wasn’t different from person to person.

hehe, ive been sporadically playing this thing on random occasions for a while, theres a more in depth description of how it works in the associated forum, its basically
eat little organism things: make you body light up, then grow one cell when you run out of spaces
eat red/blue things: go deeper/come up again. Harder enemies lower down
eat the hexagonal things with a c inside: evolve your “current” body section (the furthest down one thats lit up) it starts as a dot then goes life cell >> wing buds >> wings

a life cell forms part of your health bar (if all your life cells get eaten, you get pushed back one level and lose a cell, do that too many times and you lose)

wing cells (or flippers, fins, w/e you want to call them) make you go faster when you click the mouse and count as life cells as well
wing buds are just an intermediary stage, they dont do anything special

eating the other type of food (with an s on it i think) speeds up the food when its moving down you lighting you up, and makes your mouth bigger, comes out of big enemies so you can eat them quickly

when you get down to the very bottom and beat the giant snake (by eating all of his life cells) theres a little yelow organism released, eat that and you return to the top, the water goes orange, all the food comes back and you play as a jellyfish, the snake you made becomes the boss when you get down there again, i think that after that youre meant to be able to play again as a snake and the final level is both of the creatures you made, but quite often theres a fault and the yellow thingy doesnt show up

you can download it from the website and play on your pc, dunno about ps3

  14. TheKeck

Yeah, what Matt said, mostly. The “c” thing is the one that makes your mouth bigger. I wish it were permanent, though. When I killed the last snake as a jellyfish, nothing else happened. That was the end for me?

The good news is that when I played this game many months ago, it would do bad things to my system after a while. I couldn’t get to the end of the first “level” without my browser crashing and stuff. That seems to be all better now.

and the fun thing about downloading it to your PC is you can edit the level.xml file and put different things in the levels and change the other creatures. :)

  16. _Brad_

I got the round creature too, way fun game.

  17. Octeris

    Link not working.

  18. Earthwormchris

I think you win after you beat the second form.
Really nice with a big bass system in the deeper levels.

  19. Matt

hmm.. maybe it only goes round again if you download it
since i havent done so i cant really comment but i think someone said thats whats meant to happen

what would be awesome is to play as the manta ray thing as well, that giant thing that you always see one level before you get to it and think “oooh, that thing is big”

also if the levels were able to slowly repopulate with food

one cool thing you can do is try and selectively evolve so that your body follows a pattern – e.g. you only eat evolution food when youre on a certain body part

if anyone can manage to make a snake creature that goes wings, dot, wings dot, etc. then i would be impressed mightily (by dot i mean the basic body part, not even evolved as far as a life cell)

  20. Best regards
