    Of course!

  2. capsuletz

Exactly my words, of course! Who would not? This game is awesome!!

  3. Andreas

I have to get Spore, I’ve been waiting for it since that first YouTube video made the rounds….

  4. NSMike

Will Wright owns my money. I hated Sims and still got Sims 2. *cries*

  5. Kanelstrejf

Was thrilled in the beginning, but I’ve lost interest

  6. Div

I voted wait and see since I’m only really interested if I can play it on the Wii.

  7. Techgeekgirl

I do want to play spore, it looks like an awesome game. Sadly though, I’m waiting to see what kind of copy protection comes with the game. I personally refuse to put SecuROM on my system, and the whole idea of limited activation is repugnant to me.

If EA continues releasing games with absurd copy protection, that pirates crack within a few days anyway, I’m afraid my PC gaming days may be limited.

  8. Mrrodgers

While I despise SecuROM, I’m still gonna get this game. Now I gotta convince my mom to let me get the full version of the creature creator with her credit card.

  9. Matt`

Is it going to be released on Steam? If that route means no horrible DRM (just the bearable and not-in-my-face stuff that Steam has) then the answer’s a definite yes.

Otherwise I’m waiting to see what happens with the copy protection – if the internet goes manic with furious rage against EA and their nefarious ways… then I’m not buying.

  10. RaXha

    YES YES OH YES!! :P

  11. RaXha

Matt: you can probably get it on EAstore, not steam, i have no idea what copy protection they use there though :)
    (sry but the double posts)

  12. Jeff S.

Will there be a Spore for Wii?

  13. Stuart Grimshaw

I’ll also be upgrading my Mac to Leopard, the creature creator wont install on Tiger :-(

  14. DoggySpew

There will be a Spore for the Wii, but not before the PC version is out.

Spore has fascinated me, ever since GDC 2005. The Creature Creator is a nice appetizer (With currently already more then 450000 creatures created). Can’t wait to start exploring the Spore galaxy (With millions of planets and stars).

  15. Dane Bramage

looks great… having a blast with the creature creator.

unless the copy protection is totally bogus, i’ll get it.

  16. playdead1

nope =*( cant afford to upgrade to leopard right now

  17. Hel

As much as I’d love to get Spore I also can’t stand Securom. I got hooked on Sims 2 years ago and hadn’t missed an expansion until they started including Securom with them. I’ve already had to scrub it off my computer once and I’d prefer not to do it again.

So, I’m in the “wait and see” camp. I was excited about this game, but I don’t think I’m quite ready to sell my soul for it now.

  18. mercator

Wait and see. Will depend on the hardware requirements vs. my budget for meeting them, the cost of the game, and the reports from users on how it is and what bologna they went through to play it.

With few exceptions, I am pretty content being about 1 year behind on playing games. They cost less, the bugs are worked out (patched by the company or players if the company doesn’t care), and the hardware requirements fit a student/father/breadwinner/casual gamer’s budget.

  19. Felix

I won’t buy it, because I don’t want to support crappy copy protection.

  20. Scott Steubing

Not with the DRM EA insists on inflicting on us.

  21. Danny Burleson

    Absolutely yes!

If the Creature Creator is any indication, this is going to be one awesome game!

I’m not much for following the hype and buying stuff for multiple platforms for no reason, but I have a good feeling I’ll be getting both the main PC game and the spin-off DS game and will eye the Wii version with curiosity whenever it comes out (depending on how similar or different it is to the PC version).

  22. Randallw

Is this copy protection you all mention the same as for Mass Effect PC? I’ve had nothing but trouble with that game, though I can’t say it’s the copy protection. Be a pity if it messed up Spore as well.

  23. Jeremy Ricketts

All you have to do is watch the guy talk about the game at TED.

    http://www.ted.com/speakers/view/id/128

… oh hells yeah. That looks fun. And I’m a lvl 70 mage. :-)

  24. binaryspiral
  25. Dane Bramage

@Randallw: what problems are you having with Mass Effect? i am planning on getting that next.

  26. Randallw

If you’re lucky you’ll get past the first movie, before you meet the Captain and Nihlus. It just has a tendency to freeze, crash, or fail every few minutes. I’ve read of people who say they can, if they’re lucky, go an hour without a problem. I’ve tried everything such as updating drivers, but it still crashes. Lots of people on its tech forum are crying for a patch. I haven’t given up but I’m not bothering anymore until a patch comes out. Now that might just be the vocal minority, after all anyone lucky enough not to have problems won’t have said anything.

  27. Sappho

Where I’ll be living in September, I won’t have internet access. I was going to buy it and use it as a single-player game, but EA and Will Wright screwed it all up.

And all for nothing. It has been proven time and time again that the more copy protection measures you put on something, the greater an effort people will make to hack and pirate it, and the less respect you will get from your fans.

On the other hand, I’ve seen time and time again that if someone creates a good product, gives it away for free, and gives people the *option* of paying, they can live off of the donations and nobody has any motivation to hack/pirate.

    Proof:
    http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/
    http://www.jonathancoulton.com/
    http://www.davidrovics.com/

All three of these people live entirely off of donations. Suck it, EA.

  28. Kal

    Hopefully, yes.

  29. Eric

    Using the trial version:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xl_AjHXv7nU
I call it Carnivore Herb. (Sadly, the computer hitched halfway through and messed up the already-slow framerate. Once I figure out how to transfer it home, I’ll updated it.)

It has the maximum in stealth, health, charge, bite and strike. It can see and grasp. It has no speed, jump or glide. It has several more spots left to add stuff, but I didn’t want to add wings and definitely didn’t want any legs (as the arms would stop working as legs).

Given all the genitalia (goatse) stuff out there, I think I put too much work into it.

  30. Liraco

It’s funny running spore on my Laptop, when dedicating the dual core to the game it’s smooth and very quick even when re-skinning the model, but when it’s running off battery power you can see the difference the CPU makes as it takes a lot longer for the computer to calculate everything.

It’s nice to see a game that seems to rely more on the processor than on a graphics card and RAM (because not too many programs put the core to good use).

Definitely getting it, I’m hooked on this and can’t wait to see make things with the more complex parts as well as the actual ships and cities. That’ll rock!

  31. Dane Bramage

That’s really sad… i had high hopes for Mass Effect. oh well… i guess i’ll get Crysis until ME gets patched.

  32. Eric

No problems with MassEff here. Vista Business x64 4GB RAM (and I often run all sorts of other crap at the same time). The only problem is, whenever I make any advancement in the main story, I get a ton of sidequests opened. It’s been a long while, and I’m not sure if I’m even getting close to the end. (That’s a good thing.)

  33. Bini

Only if i can make a giant, living, breathing penis. But i doubt thats possible.

  34. TheBlunderbuss

    No.
Securom DRM issues aside, I will not get SPORE, based on the licensing.
EA completely owns my creatures? They can make money and I don’t have a say or pay?
Forget that. Way to go ruining a great game, EA.

  35. LostSoul

While I would love to get a copy of Spore right out of the gate, the parent publishing company, EA, is swiftly becomming another evil mega-corporation in the vein of Microsoft and Sony. Since it’s the only power I have a customer, I’m going to tell EA to shove it where the sun don’t shine…by not buying their products. Any.

Now if only we could convince Will Wright and his company to tell EA to piss off and go find a publisher that doesn’t have their heads and hands firmly planted in their customers butts and wallets.

  36. Bearbutt

I tried to make a whale-like thing, but as usual, no software ever seems to do exactly what I want. I didn’t want a body. I just wanted the head to BE the body. Oh well.

  37. DoggySpew

Urgh. Securerom will NOT be used to disallowe you to play with Spore. So you CAN play it offline. SecureRom will only validate Spore if you are going to use the online functions.

  38. Eric

@Bini: If you weren’t joking, there’s already a ton of them out there. Because the creature creator is uploading them to YouTube without the video being flagged as “adult” material, a lot of them are getting pulled by YT shortly after the were put up rather than getting their status changed. You can still find some as they keep posting more and more of them.

  39. Techgeekgirl

SecuROM isn’t the only copy protection on Mass Effect, that game also has the limited number of activations thing. Games like the newest expansions of The Sims 2 have just SecuROM, and it doesn’t require connection to the internet. However, it installs copy protection that has been known to cause other components to stop functioning properly and basically acts like a rootkit and edits the registry, so it is very difficult to get rid of. If you do remove any part of the copy protection, the game of course refuses to run. This has led many customers who have legit copies of the game to acquire and use no-cd cracks, and a lot of people who have willingly bought the games in the past pirate them.

  40. neozion

how come theres no button saying “what the fuck is Spore?”?

  41. Ophiuchus

I was looking forward to Spore, but since EA is corrupt beyond all human measure, I’ve decided to decline. SecuROM is a blight upon humanity and EA simply doesn’t care whether it harms its loyal customers.

I tried playing The Sims 2 last night, but couldn’t get past the neighborhood screen. I felt as if I was playing a game created not by honest programmers, but by criminals with dollar signs in their eyes. Sad, really…

  42. Rodrigo

Sure I will, it’s not like I have many gaming options for Mac.

  43. Me

I’ll buy it and use the serial on the cracked copy I’ll download

  44. Dutch JaFO

    No.(period)
While the game has potential I don’t like how EA is handling it by censoring/banning people that make supposedly ‘offensive’ creatures.

I can already smell an expansion-pack with ‘more creatures’ or ‘more stuff’ like they did with ‘The sims’. Not that it would be ‘bad’, but given that the game has so much potential for user-created content it still is EA and that means they’re going to find a way to limit content to whatever we buy from them.

And then there’s the DRM-system that was used in Mass Effect, Bioshock and probably in Spore as well. Limited internet-based activations are just not a good idea. Especially when they are under no obligation to maintain the servers and there’s no way I’m going to trust EA to provide a patch that disables this ‘feature’ in the future.

Sorry Will Wright … I know it was a real challenge to get Spore up and running, but I’m not buying it because of EA’s actions.

  45. Jeremy Ricketts

@Dutch- I can respect that view. DRM and censoring aren’t my cup of tea.
