film-sack

Been sitting on this one for quite a long time. Finally getting the word out about the latest show in the FrogPants Studios line up: “Film Sack”.

Here’s what you need to know: (copied from the Film Sack blog)

Each week, the FilmSack crew picks a strange movie from the bowels of Netflix streaming and splatters it all over your inner ear. Sometimes it’s a long forgotten horror movie from the 70′. Sometimes it’s a under the radar gem of brilliance from last year. One way or the other, this is not your typical movie show.

Join Scott Johnson and his FilmSack pals, Brian Ibbot, Brian Dunaway, and Randy Jordan, and a little something from Scott Fletcher, as they swim in a big vat of film-nerd sweat, and capture it all on tape!

Scott Johnson is the founder of FrogPants Studios, and the creator of webcomics like Extralife and Experience Points. Brian Ibbot is the host of the long running and extremely awesome podcast, Coverville. Brian Dunaway co-hosts ExtraLife Radio with Scott, and also hosts ComicsCoastToCoast and is the artist behind Guy In A Bush. Randy Jordan co-hosts The Instance with Scott, and has a wicked awesome blog.

As mentioned, the show will be released weekly, and posted on RSS, iTunes, direct download, and on the Film Sack site. Wanna be ready for the first episode? Here are the important links:

Gah, I wish I had Netflix!!!!! Hopefully I’ll be able to find some of these movies through “alternative measures” on the interwebs.

  2. Molly

Awesome Scott – Is this going to compete with Movielicious?

  3. Malynor

Does this mean ELR is going to be every 3 weeks? (or does it just seem like that now?)

  4. fantasyh

So basically Crappy Movie Of The Week Podcast?

  5. NicoleSpag

    bring it johnson! ;)

  6. Darrell

I used to run a film review web site, so I’ll be tuning in for sure!

  7. CJMack

Wow. I haven’t heard the phrase “Crappy Movie of the Week” in forever. Glad to see it’s return in one form or another.

  8. Takean

careful not to follow what the Angry Video Game Nerd is doing. He has been doing the same on his website this month. Just make it unique :)

James Rolfe only reviews horror movies during octuber, and last year he reviewed all the godzilla movies(worth checking out).
You can also watch Rolfe review more movies at spike.com…
I just realized that I sound like a Rolfe (Cinemassacre) fan, which I think I am…
By the way this show sounds awesome, and a nice addition for the extralife fans that don’t play wow or have an iphone.

    • Scott Johnson

I have no idea who that is.

      • EonsPast

The Angry Video-Game nerd? C’mon Scott, get with it!

  9. ARon

Awesome! I love all of your podcasts and cant wait to hear someone talk about films like The Orphanage , Primer(best time travel movie ever), oldboy, and so on

My god! It’s a Crappy Movie of the Week podcast! [reads thread] The people remember those glorious days! Also, hooray for the bringing back of this glorious segment and turning it into something even more awesome!

  11. Moobie

Moohoo! This is a great idea and a great crew behind it! :-)

  12. Chad

New podcasts like this make it very hard to get work done. I can’t wait!

  13. Dman0001

Awesome – I have been missing crappy movie of the week – - now if we could get ELR back to weekly it would be the total dominance of the interwebs

  14. Slaverstrike

Excellent! It’s gonna be fun on the bun!

  15. Charlie

Sounds great but… Where on earth do you find the time to record all these shows? You’re like a Pokemon Master whose caught the illusive Timemon, which gives you (his owner) the ability to control time itself…. And yet you squander all that power to record nerdy podcasts…

    Thank you :)

  16. Doctor Acula

    Netflix + XBOX360 + Film Sack = EPIC!

  17. Foxlore

Looking forward to it! But I am seriously sad that ELR seems to have taken a back seat to other stuff. I can gather that AppSlappy and The Instance are real revenue generators due to their specific audience base (and still waiting excitedly for Heroes for You)…but ELR remains my favorite…Still, as with anything, all good things must come to an end.

Truly tragic that those of us living overseas cannot fully enjoy Netflix (even with a Xbox Live account and a US credit card)…stupid international distribution laws…*grumble

Your podcasts are like the anti-voltron. Instead of forming into one super show, they have split into a bunch of smaller, themed robot tigers.

you should do “Blue Lagoon” nothing like underage teens growing up on a deserted island to make for funny commentary.

  20. gesch

I loved the crappy movie of the week segment on the podcast. I suppose I kinda miss it.

I know you’re all very smart guys, but during the very first episode of FilmSack you kept making comments that “Krull” was a rip off of “Star Wars.” What I think is important to realize is that a lot of movies follow a formula laid out in classic mythology and most commonly referred to in Hollywood as “The Hero’s Journey” or the “Monomyth.” This comes from the book “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” written by Joseph Campbell in 1947.
