This is the weirdest damn thing I have seen in a year. Someone, somewhere, somehow, signed off on this. Thanks to Eileen for this one.

This is the fifth time i’ve run into this guy this week. He’s spreading like wildfire! Now he has his own website? Wow! I guess this is the new rickroll.

    A Trolololololo roll? :-D

  5. Rob

Why would you want to unsee it?! I can’t stop watching this thing, it’s almost hypnotic. Those eyes…

You have good taste Scott, Stephen Colbert was all over this one last night too – I still don’t get where the devil it came from tho!

  8. Brian Duff

This guy haunts my dreams whenever I try to sleep… I wake up screaming now… Every once in a while… I think I can see and hear him turning around a corner…

I as traumatized enough already when I saw it in the Random Video thread… now you’ve ruined all the therapy I’ve gone thru to get over this… Thanks Scott! :-P

Reminds me of the segments they used to have on The Lawrence Welk Showback in the 70s. They ran this clip on G4 AOTS the other day too, I think they said it was from Russia or Europe originally IIRC. He doesn’t seem move his mouth much…wonder if he is lip syncing?

His name is Eduard Khil, sometimes known as Edward Khil. Last name pronounced “kill”. Also known as Edward Hill. Googling for “eduard Khil” seems to produce the most results.

The song he’s singing is titled “I Am So Happy to Finally Be Back Home,”. He’s singing in a style known as vokaliz acapella, it’s a style of singing specifically intended to be wordless and some performers think it appeals to international audiences and breaks language barrier.

The song is a cover from a 1960 movie “The Blue Spark”.

More here, there’s also a youtube vid of the original song from the movie:

He was a bit of a superstar in the Soviet Union in the late 60′s early 70s, and he has a fair amount of albums on Amazon…

a song needs to actually say something in order for it to have value. this is just noise. I can do without the goofball and just listen to Beethoven or Mozart.

It’s only odd to us because we are not Russians and unfamiliar with their ways and culture.

To Russians he’s probably expessing nothing more than the sheer joy of returning home. And Eduard does seem to be extremely popular in his homeland because of it.

Just because we don’t pick up on what he’s saying doesn’t necessarily mean he’s not saying anything. Rather it could mean that we are not taking the time to learn about him or a foreign culture.

that was like a cross of a sandman from Logan’s run, something from the hall of presidents at disney world and the orphaned child of Charlie McCarthy.

That was just so wrong, but wrong in that, “thank god that’s not me!”, sort of way. But also so completely transfixing in that, “why is this hypnotizing me and creeping me out?” sort of way.

    So distubing…wow

It’s this year’s Tuank Tunak Tun

I guess it’s time for 2010′s “What the Crap” meme of the year. Seriously, What the crap?

This is the new Rickroll. I was at a friend’s tonight and both their house phone and my phone were prank called by the audio of this dude. It’s gone crazy viral and it frightens me just a bit.

  18. Rane2k

    This is pretty awesome.

I actually had this running in the background while playing Quake, for about an hour or so, quite surreal. :-)

  19. torticoli

    That’s… that is wierd.

I should have played Heavy Rain with this in the background. That would have been interesting.

  20. NeuroMan42

    Guy is a fricking droid.

  21. Devilbob

Personally, from the look in his eyes, I think he panicked and forgot the lyrics.

  22. Nakoma

Personally, I love this. Great blend of happy and creepy… what a riot!
