A live-action TV series set in the “Star Wars” cosmos has been an elusive, tantalizing prospect for years. News of the potential production first surfaced in 2005 while George Lucas was promoting “Revenge of the Sith.” Work on the “Clones Wars” animated feature film and Cartoon Network series, though, took creative precedence. In late 2007, Lucas revealed that he and his team were about to begin writing scripts for the live-action show. Now MTV News has learned that casting for the series is currently underway.
Rather interesting. Actually have some hope for this.

I want to believe this will be good. I really do. For some reason though, I have a nagging voice in the back of my head that keeps uttering ‘Jar Jar’ and won’t let up.
I want to see what sort of writers are attached and what casting comes up with and when and where the story is set and then maybe my fears will be lessened.
For now though, I can’t see this ending well.
stop trying to milk the franchise!
Its fine where it is!
no jedi? no vader?
no thanks… whats the point of using this ip if all you want is blasters in space?
hmm… Star Wars without lightsaber fights?
well….it’ll probably be better than Knight Rider
“it’ll probably be better than Knight Rider”
.
This is George Lucas – y’know – the 3 crappy prequels and home of “Nuke the Fridge”? Pretty sure it’ll be crap. He’s in a pretty well defined downward spiral.
I’ll reserve judgement. I mean so what if it has been 25 years since the franchise made something that doesn’t suck?
I think that the concept in the rather thin plot as part of Star Wars Battlefields II (Xbox), where it follows the trials of the clones of the 50_th (can’t recall the last digit), going from jedi ally to jedi enemy after invoking ______ (again, don’t remember, and I know the uberfans will fill in for me) was a great story. Again, thin in SWBF2, but then the game is not about plot.
I think there are side stories that would be interesting to tell, and sci fi with real actors (not cartoons – no reflection on acting quality) is quite thin right now, and getting thinner with each passing season.
I’m really enjoying the Clone Wars animated series – much more than I enjoyed any of the prequel films. I think that, especially after having read a number of the Star Wars novels and having played/GM’d the pen-and-paper RPG, the Star Wars universe is rich enough to support other stories, other plots, and other characters while still maintaining the feel of the franchise.
I will hold the same amount of hope for this as I will for Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO. There are too many unknown variables to credit or discount them.
Ok, maybe I’m being a little negative. Maybe the title should be “Star Wars: A very slight, but almost nonexistent glimmer of hope”
Yay something to look for afther clone wars wich was .. well you’ve seen it..
I just want to see boba fett again T_T pour boba
Well you have more hope than me…
So we are sure this is not an April Fools’ joke ?
Well, I can say I was initally not fond of the new Clone Wars series after first watching the film. But as with Steve H above, the show has really grown on me and I have really enjoyed it. (I just wish they would have done this prior to releasing Ep III).
The fact that there would not be any big characters in the LA TV series would be a good thing. I know the one thing that really dissapointed me with eps 1-3 was the fact that all the characters were so interconnected with ep 4-6.
One good thing about Lucas being who he is, is that he has the clout to shoot a whole season. He doens not have to play the network game of shooting 5 or 6 episodes and then get cancelled, leaving fans hanging, like many shows can do.
Hmm this has been in the works for a long time and much of the delay at least what I heard early on was that they wanted have the whole show written before it goes on the air. So I do have hope for it. And since I’m honestly enjoy Star War: Clone Wars more than BSG at this point. I think I’ll give George some credit even if he is money grabbing mad man.
George Lukas
The best example that you should be careful about the things you wish for, they might come true.
Just because he is rich enough to shoot an entire first season doesn’t mean he’s rich enough to convince a network to not kill his show by shuffling it around and around until no one knows where it is.
I was under the impression that the focus of the show was going to be on the eradication of the Jedi. I guess from this description, the Jedi were pretty much wiped out at the end of Episode III, and no stories really exist there. Although that does contradict Obi-Wan’s statement of Vader hunting down the Jedi. Not much hunting in Episode III.
Still that does not explain not having Darth Vader. You’ve got to have him.
Could be very good. “The Clone Wars” animated series is top-notch and they’ve been telling some good stories. I say, bring it on!
It’d be like having Hitler as a major (on-screen) character in a movie/game set in WW 2.
WE know he’s there directing the action.
Do we really (need to) see him in every movie related to that era ?
Of course we don’t.

I wonder if George Lucas won’t rip off one of the many series set in WW 2 for the show …
The Empire could easily replace the Nazis.
And the Rebels can be ‘la resistance’ …
OTOH … “Dad’s Army” with the British replaced by a rebel-faction ?
Or what about “Kelly’s Heroes” ?
They released this on MTV News? Really?
Was MTV their first choice, or all they could get?
Either way isn’t good news.
Don’t have hope. You can have hope only when it’s announced that Lucas is NOT directing it.
Probably not going to last past the first season, but I am willing to be blown away.
If George Lucas is involved I’m sure it’s going to be terrible.
I would much rather have a show based on Knights of the Old Republic or maybe even Legacy from the comics. The best part of Star Wars is the Jedi, but I’ll probably still watch it and like it. I think a lower budget would do the franchise good.
The worst part of Star Wars are the Jedi (and Sith).
IMHO a series following the exploits of a bunch of (wannabe) rebels is much more interesting than a few wizards doing magic tricks with (light)swords.
