Isn’t it supposed to be the 10 things that Spiderman III thought us? (not Spiderman II)
fixed
While the movie Underworld is practically a rip-off of Vampire: the Masquerade and Werewolf: the Apocalypse, the movie Blade is not at all based on White Wolf material. Blade is (loosely) based on a Marvel comic character and series that has appeared in Marvel comics as far back as 1973.
If I were O, I’d be ticked… seems he gets roostered, but guests don’t.
I don’t think they’re actually making a Gears of War golf game. The story is that Epic wanted to prove how versatile the Unreal 3 engine is to some skeptics (heh), so they had some developers whip up a golf demo using the Unreal 3 engine and Gears of War assets.
It wasn’t really China. Everyone paid $2k, got on the plane, it circled around a few times, landed in some airport in Georgia with some signs in Chinese and when they got on the tour bus, they saw the Best Western, Wal-Mart and it was amazingly similar to the US because it actually was the US.
That’s my skeptical conspiracy theory.
Haha Scott – I think you left a swear word in; “f*ck”
i did? where?
Your guest says it… can’t remember exact timestamp when though. But yeah, he drops the F bomb and you didn’t even acknowledge it. Very funny.
It’s right after the break at 51:15 “… A Walmart, what the fuck?…..”
I remember one time seeing in the weekly world news that Hillary Clinton’s running mate was Bigfoot
So is this the end of Extra Life? :O?!?!
(Episode 100, Clinton and Scott both said ELR only had 37 shows left
just thought i should throw that in there)
But i hope it doesn’t end of course…. or maybe…nah….
Maybe they’ll call it Gears of Golf… or Golf of War.
I’m in the middle of the show right now, but I’m compelled to post.
.
The Golf Of War section was absolutely perfect for this ‘Skeptic’ episode seeing as you all accepted this unbelievably ridiculous concept without question (Derek, amusingly, with the most gusto).
Fact: Bad reporting and sensationalist headlines = misinformation.
Fact: Paraphrasing ‘Edge’, which I bought yesterday, Mark Rein was pitching the Unreal 3 engine to some Korean Dev for casual games and to demonstrate how versatile it was (ie: not just for shooters), an animator and a program mocked up a Gears of War Golf Mod in a day. Sadly we’ll never see it

Heheh, I just wanted point out the Irony in a snarky way!
Kickass show btw, cheers. And back to the podcast….
This was so super awesome. I even put on a hentai, turned the audio off, and then replayed this episode. THAT is how awesome it was. Now, I can’t prove this actually took place, but I swear…SWEAR…this happened. Doubters be damned!
Fantasy golf games are pretty fantastic! Super Swing Golf for the Wii is exciting cause you can dress up your characters and follow all the subplots!
This was the first show I saw/heard live. It was fun. Can’t wait to see more, I’m glad this wasn’t the last show.
whoops.
Hey Scott, you should ask your co-worker who gave “scriptural proof” of the existence of Bigfoot, if Bigfoot is really Cane in need of a bath and a shave, how did he survive the flood that killed everything on earth a few chapters later?
Interesting episode, I felt inclined to post regarding comments made on skeptical magazine and the “skeptical community”.
My biggest problem with so called skeptics is that in order to “disprove” something, they create an hypothesis of what they think some people believe and then disprove that, rather than recognize that there is enough evidence to call the original story into question.
For instance the “9-11 conspiracy theories”, the very fact they call them that proves their own bias. Any piece of evidence that calls the official story into question is not a “conspiracy theory”, it is merely evidence that seems to contradict the official story (or theory if you will). It is not sufficient to disprove any single theory based on the questions the evidence has raised.
For instance anyone who calls themselves a skeptic that isn’t skeptical of the manner in which the WTC building 7 collapsed, is someone I would be skeptical of as being a skeptic! The official story is that fire spread to the building and brought it down in a manner usually only associated with a controlled explosion. Any objective scientist can tell you that a building collapsing in that manner from fire is previously unheard of and very difficult to explain, never mind prove. If you believe that building 7 was brought down by fire then you are
Another example of a topic that was touched upon in the episode is that of the moon landings. It is not sufficient to prove we went to the moon and then toss out all the evidence that brings that into question. I for one believe the evidence does prove that we went to the moon, I also believe that the evidence to the contrary proves that although we went, there is something very suspicious and questionable regarding many aspects of the Apollo 11 mission that should also be questioned. A true skeptic would not establish one truth and then throw out all contrary evidence just because it doesn’t fit an established belief.
I consider myself a skeptic but became disillusioned with the so called skeptical community (especially those at Skeptic magazine) some time ago. It seems to me that many of them begin as skeptics but become cynics, far too eager to disprove anything that goes against established doctrines. I find the manner in which they treat the UFO debate lacking of intellectual integrity for one. I have yet to see an honest analysis of the testimony given by over 400 witnesses of impeccable credentials taking part in the Disclosure Project by a member of the “skeptical” community. Again it doesn’t fit with the already established skeptical doctrine and from what I can tell any fair analysis would have to come to the conclusion that there is an overwhelming amount of evidence that supports the extra-terrestrial hypothesis. They are far too cynical to allow that outcome from what I have observed.
A true skeptic should be as open minded to new evidence as old, especially when the new evidence contradicts previously held beliefs. That is the scientific method, and I have huge doubts as to the application of that method by those in the “skeptical community”.
But be aware I am not directing this criticisms directly at Derek, as he did not go into enough detail on any specific topic for me to fairly critique. He sounded like a reasonable enough guy, and I just wanted to make it clear that this is not an attack on him in any way.
