Tonight is all about the PS3, Uncharted 2, the recent growth of PS3 sales, and it’s long term prognosis. We also have a VERY interesting and heated conversation about independent film vs Hollywood productions, and what difference there really is between the two. You might be surprised where we all land on the topic. Randy Deluxe guests again this week.

Itunes says ELR 226. Typo ?

    • Zanter.

I don’t think it’s on itunes yet, at least i Don’t see it.

      • Scott Johnson

Phone or iTunes desktop? The phone is cached so it takes a while.

      • Zanter.

It was desktop, but it just showed up, guess it was just a bit slugish.

    • Scott Johnson

I agree with O in this one, and Independent film does not need to “feel” independent in order to be independent. If not that would mean that the only independent film that we would have are about “gay cowboys eating pudding” and that is not right, the film not the gay or the pudding thing, a independent film that feels like a hollywood film needs to be admire and enjoy, because it breaks the “independent feel” rule, that lets admit it… sometimes is … “good” but most of the time is a big WTF! and not the kind of WTF is this yet is completly awesome, but the WTF is this bag of what ever comes out from a horses butt

Did something happen to the sound quality?
    You guys sound amazing!
It’s like whiping the dew off a window.

O is completely wrong about these games like ff13 the 360 and ps3 versions will be nearly identical, the game is being developed with their crystal tools which was developed in mind for multiplatform dev. In fact most multiplatform games to this day still run better and have less frame tear on the 360. ( i do own both platforms uncharted 2 is awesome) btw shift sucks has neither the physics to be a sim or the fun factor to be a arcade nfs. I cant wait for the new ratchet and clank though!

O and Randy are very, very wrong about Lost. Hope you do the Lost fans proud when you defend your opinion on the show when you have that conversation soon Scott.

  7. Acedian

It is only now in this generation of consoles that I regret selling my PS3. Now would be the best time to play on it…

As for the debate, I say basically what O said, you could have 50mil more then the other guy who doesnt have good equipment even but if you are not backed by a studio/hollywood and are risking all your savings on your dream the they are indeed independant filmmakers.

Great show as always, thanks guys

Interesting show. In terms of District 9, I asked an actual independent film maker his thoughts, and he replied, an independent film is generally considered one which is financed and distributed outside of the big 6 H’wood companies. (For the record, I asked Mark Savage, Australian film maker now residing in the states). He brought up a good point, which is that if anything, District 9 is a foreign film (true as it was filmed in South Africa) and not subject to the American rules of Independent/studio argument. The US is the only country that has the studio way of making films.

It’s one thing to talk semantics, but if you’re going to try and have a discussion like this, it might be a good idea to have guests on who have some knowledge about it, and not just O who confuses his opinion with fact.

I think Tom made a great point about the “gross-out” factor of D9.
My wife and I and 2 friends walked out as they were about to cut him open.
Not a great double date movie.
I was so excited for this movie, but I guess I’m getting too old for that kind of crap.

    • Scott Johnson

By tom I think you mean randy?

      • Franck3d

Tom, Randy, what’s the difference? ;)

        Marco!
That was my favorite part of Uncharted 2 as well!

  10. Final

Frankly, I’m just amazed that there hasn’t been a show with this title yet.

  11. Andreas

    • Scott Johnson

The movie was really crappy. In my opinion of course. :)

      • Francké

But, but, but they teleported that guys head off!
And blow the bad guys ship to pieces with a fre@#ing nuke!!!

Ok I was 14 years old at the time and haven’t seen it since, so it could be me….

http://www.audiblepodcasts.com/extralife takes you to some online dating/business/entertainment advertising veneer (as does http://www.audiblepodcasts.com).

Could we have the real link? I’d like to hear some audio books :)

I agree with everything you had to say about Uncharted 2, just amazing and awesome writing/acting all around. Best game in a long time in my opinion. Batman a close second but the humor in Uncharted makes it for me.

As someone who owns multiple 360s and PS3s, i have to say i am more proud of Sony right now. With the slim update you “know” they changed things and fixed problems. With the 360s you have to find out what processor is in there to hope it’s more stable than the red ringers. I’ve had three 360s red ring/other deaths, and just the other day my launch ps3 (that i abused the hell out of by playing a long time and often) was freezing a lot. Picked up a slim, and it seems to actually run better/smoother than the original. I think microsoft could learn a bit from Sony there, show they care about the system more.
