“Me Brian and O chat it up about casual gaming, its place in gaming today, and what the future might be”

I find this description of the show interesting and not sue if I will be able to clearly explain why. I’m starting to hate the word casual when applied to gaming for some reason. I don’t call my self a casual gamer any longer but more a gamer with a social life (Family & Friends + Work). I still play games and love to play games but I also have other obligations. This doesn’t make me any less of a gamer because I might not put as much time into them as someone labeled hardcore (usually have their priorities screwed up or doesn’t have the issue of family and friends – Not trying to offend with that comment really) player.

If a game comes out and I’m interested in it I will play it. I don’t think being someone with less time to play a game (see not going to call myself a casual gamer :) ) has ever stopped me from playing the game.

I really don’t see the issue in games today that would handicap you because you don’t have a ton of time. An example would be WOW. You can play wow and still progress through the game and experience the game only playing a few hours or less a week. Being casual (damn I used the word) does not limit your ability to play WOW what so ever.

This is just a little rant and I apologize for ranting but the term Casual gamer is just bugging me for some reason as of late.

I have not listened to the show yet but I will check it out in the morning while at work.

iTunes has been slow on podcast updates for the past 2 days.

My bad…forgot to post the RSS feed. Not iTunes fault. Me fault. :(

@lavagod Interesting you should say all of that. This is the VERY conversation we had on the episode. I think you’ll get a kick out of it.

It be cool if the ELR Stream Bar popped out in a new tiny window cause I seem to constantly accidentally close the ExtraLife page and loosing my place in the podcast. Slightly annoying.

  12. lavagod

Scott: cool. I will be listening to the show during my lunch break today.

Aw crap. Forgot to check it out before I left home for work. No headphones over here =(
Darnit. And now I’ll have to wait 8 hours to get my ears on ELR.
Anybody want to transcribe the podcast for me? lol

(about too short for the airforce thing)

actually shortness is good, better circulation, less likelihood of blacking out.

and “press the gas”? jets throttle is on laterally sliding control stick.

Hey Scott, I’ve been thinking of inviting you to do an iPhone game with me for some time, so it was really interesting to hear you talk about it youself on the podcast. Problem is I haven’t actually done an iPhone game yet, and I was going to ask you after I have one or two games out. I do have a couple of music apps out now, you can search “Frozen Ape” in the store. I guess you’re better off doing a game with someone with better credentials, I’ll check back with you again if you don’t get it started by the time I’m ready.

I would define casual games as those that do not require any skill, or require only a minimal skill and the learning curve is almost unnoticeable.
