We take a hard look at the 7th generation of consoles, the one we are in, and discuss what they are doing right, what they are doing wrong, and what they might do in the generation to come. A fine episode if I can say so myself without looking like a turd.

Don’t know if this is just my iTunes, but on there the episode is numbered as episode #210 again, instead of #211 like it should be. The text portion of “The 7th Generation” is right, it’s just not the right number in front. Thought this would be of use to share with you.
fixed
If I remember correctly, 360 owners buy an average of 8 games per system, whereas Wii owners own an average of 7. Doesn’t really back up the whole “Wii owners don’t buy games” argument very well.
Anyway, something to consider.
good show.
I’ve only ever owned one console, the Atari 2600. It still works but the games are really only good for silly fun. Hard to imagine wasting hours in front of the thing.
I wanted a NES when it first came out and for several years. I was a little kid at the time and tried to save up my money for it. Eventually I didn’t care. My roomates in college had N64’s and we had a lot of fun with Goldeneye, Diddy Kong racing and whatever the basketball game was. Those are the only three consoles I’ve ever played.
The Wii is the first console I’ve been interested in owning since the NES days, but I thought about it and couldn’t really justify it. My genre of games is the RPG and they just work better on a ‘real’ computer, which I am always going to have regardless. It doesn’t make sense for me to buy another machine that won’t even have the games I want. I would have played Zelda and whatever comes with the thing and then gone on to WoW while the Nintendo gathered dust beside the Atari.
That picture used to been my image for the Photo Channel, on the Wii. Then I switched to my avatar that I use around the web (VGCats Merchant Kirby).
I personally feel that O was dead on right about the Wii. I own a Wii, got mario, super smash brothers, and a Wii fit. and I havent touched the thing in 2 months. the games have a 3 day fad rating, I take it out for guests we play tennis and bowling, and thats it. goes right back to dust magnet. I am not of the idea to pay $10 for a title that I can get on a emulator and play the original way and even save the game at any point I wish. so all the Wii Channels are rather pointless..who store their photos on their Wii really? As far as titles, there really arent any that are better played on the Wii compared to a XBOX or PS3. FPS and hack and slash games are rather jerky and frustrating at times when you dont make the exactly correct movements to do something. Rant over.
Thanks for a great show. And Mark is a nice addition to the show, mixes well with the topics, and is consise.
BTW is it me or there a noticable hiss on the audio track at certain places?
The Wii was shipped with Wii Sports …Its only in like Japan it was sold as a standalone…..
Do you have Fallout 3, Scott?
Gamers really need to get over the Wii, it is NOT made for you. Nintendo is providing a service to gamers, they are getting more people into gaming. Which puts more money into the gaming industry, and in turn makes better games for the hardcore.
Sorry to double post, but as for the Xbox 360 failure rate. It does suck, had it happen once, and it took like 3 months to get my system back!
Every one forgets the PS2 laser problems though! EVERYONE that I know who owned a fat PS2 had the laser issue, and when you called Sony about the issue, they said “Too Bad, buy a new one.”
I dub thee Angry Gamer of the week.
i second he motion.
Sorry, I had been reading comments on Digg while listening to the episode, and that is, as we all know, bad for the brain.
Good show, but i think i liked it alot better when they just had a show every week and didn’t have a planned out topic because that means if you don’t find that topic interesting you have to wait another like 2 weeks for a show. And also,it’s more fun to have a variety of topics, because it makes for a more lighthearted show and more comedy. But as Scott said earlier in his post about what he’s up to with all his various online happenings,ELR is aging and it might not be too long before we see the end of this awesome show:(
PS:I won’t say terrible song at the end because i don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. But power chords and generic punk rock singing don’t mix well with ELR.
Also Lifeisaglitch is right, the Wii shipped with Wii sports everywhere except for Japan if i’m not mistaken.
Lol love the Capt Picard pic lol Nice.
O you are totally right. OUR wii is sitting here collecting dust and I am willing to bet most others are too!
