That guitar intro music is awful.
Didn’t realise that he was only 15 (shows me for commenting at the beginning of the show).
Movement of mouths (the stuff Scott is complaining about) depends on the studio. also whereas western animation tends to be focussed on Fluid motions, sacrifising the actual quality of the drawnings themselves, eastern animation is in fact the reverse. its really a matter of culture. advancements are being made though, take Steamboy on the asian front (even though it took 10 years to make) or avatar the last airbender on the western front. To me it seams that slowly but surely both types are Fusing together…maybe in 20 years, there is no western or eastern animation, there is just, ANIMATION…
then again, i’m sick and hooked up on coughsyrop…so…whatever…
The anime chick on the WoW loading screen is done by http://genzoman.deviantart.com/ . Really good artworks by him there. While his artwork doesn’t have realistic looking humans, their “Anime” style fits.
It’s all a matter of tastes. As tastes go, there are popular fads which ebb and flow in what seems like random occurrences. In 5-9 years, general opinions will likely be different on the same things.
Scott, Brian and O have you ever seen Ardmin Animations Wallice and Gromit? If you have what are your thoughts on this kind of animation?
I love Wallace and Gromit. Best thing evar.
I am the biggest animation fan that ever lived (fan as in fanatic). This show had me yelling at my iPod like a hulking nutcase superbowl fan.
My kids LOVE Rocky and Bullwinkle (we discovered it during a recent vacation when there was a collection at the cabin we were renting) and Scooby Doo (what is with that dog??). My son also enjoys Ben 10: Alien Force (which I think is cute) and Bakugan (which I HATE).
BAKUGAN…that’s all I heard this past Christmas.
meh sounds like a bit of melodrama as far as the “Downfall” is concerned. Changed in many many different ways, but still at it’s core the same in terms of what animation in the west was made for.
EDIT: melodrama? Did you listen to the show?
Great, excellent show! It’s a lot of fun to listen to you guys cover a subject that you respect so much and have a great deal of love for. I did a lot of nodding and ‘MM-hmm”ing.
I did a lot of Yes! Yes! And No! No!
Good show guys, I agree with some of your points and some I don’t. The real thing is money drives everything – especially in the West these days. It costs a lot to make these types of films. What I find somewhat ironic is how much of the actual animation work has move to Asia anyway. Pretty soon they will be making all our stuff and we will be making theirs!
Very good show. At least better then the one where there is no subject to talk about . Not saying they’re bad, just Pixar “Cars” good, if you are getting me. (If not, Pixar’s “Cars” is considered one of the “baddest” Pixars movies, even though it is still great. But not “The Incredibles” great.)
Has anyone involved in the ELR podcast ever seen The Venture Bros.? Just wondering, in case I missed. Excellent adult-oriented action-adventure series.
the call in at the end of the show about the contractor who shouted out “video games!” while on the job. Hilarious, and made me remember how many times ive done that myself when Im alone at the warehouse. I tend to stray to the “movies” bumper
This is an ultra-delayed comment but oh well.
I’ve watched Renaissance and not only is it an incredibly boring movie, the ultra high contrast just about destroyed my retinas. I wish I could say I’m kidding when I tell people about once every five minutes I had to pause the film and to give my eyes a break, but it’s true.
Hey guys, I’m the one who called out VIDEO GAMES – had to go back to that job for a touch up the other day and the homeowner didn’t know which of us would come. When he saw me he said ‘Hey, it’s the video games guy’. lol
Loved the show as always!
Really disappointed Avatar was under appreciated in the podcast. It’s one of the recent Western show that has managed to engross me in it’s journy’ish-epic story and story telling in a long time. Yeah, we all know there are good stuff that come out in the movies, but as far as television goes it was a rare example of how American cartoons SHOULD be done. Another great but semi old example is Batman Beyond.
hey scott,
where is ELR 209??
bouhouhouhouhou
I cant’ go on without it!!
Where are the new episodes?!?!?!
When’s the next episode? We need our ELR!
D:
Scott: You may need to adjust the toilet tanks water level… This should give you enough water pressure to flush anything down. It will also help keep the bowl clean (not going into the “unfortunate” details if you know what I mean) If this doesn’t work you may want to upgrade your toilet to a newer model with an American sized hole. (Al Bundy liked the Fergison)
Anyhow… Great episode.. Even if the topics are questionable.. but thats why we listen.
Jay
I liked the subject matter a great deal but was disappointed with the delivery of the show. The interruptions are painful after the first few.
Two new ELR episodes are available through itunes
Is there a version of ELR where you edit out everything that Obsidian says and your responses to his inappropriate, juvenile, and worthless commentary.
The last two ELRs I have been unable to listen to whole podcast just due to feeling embarrassed for the kid.
“Porn should be free”, “Up the butt”…. etc. Then there is always a pause, and some nervous forced laughter.
Ditch Obsidian guys… drop him like his worthless non sequiturs.
