    Don’t wanna be a party pooper… but…
I would have prefered if you guys divided this ELR edition in two parts: Webcomics & Usual Stuff.
Not that I don’t like the subject… but there are those days where we just want to laugh and enjoy ELR about Bond, Games and usual ELR juice.

Oh… and congrats on the prizes!!! You guys really deserve it for all your sweat and wits!

  2. LUKE

damn man, first 40 min. are just boring… and this is #202, WTF?!

  3. missiondeep

    ouch. Extra tough this week.

It’s all my fault. I tried to be exiting. I really did.

  4. wolfgang

Oh dear, tough crowd this week. It’s time to bring back the poop stories!

  5. Len

Scott, Brian and O: You fell prey to exactly what you were talking about early in the show: Do you do a show that you like or that the audience likes. IMHO, do the show you want to do.

    Peace, I outta here.

*pounds chest and sends kisses toward the sky*

  6. Scott

Meh…Listen or don’t. Enjoy it or don’t. Not sure what to tell you.

  7. Adam83

Oh noes! The podcast that’s hosted by 3 guys who draw webcomics had a long section about webcomics… The nerve!

    /facepalm

  8. Danny Burleson

    @Adam83

Exactly! I haven’t even listened to this one yet, but was excited to hear that a podcast featuring three webcomickers would actually feature talk about, y’know, webcomics…

Instead, there are complaints? That’d be like listening to a podcast with Steven King and complaining about that, “really boring segment with all the book talk.”

Why stop there, how about jumping in next time Scott’s drawing his normal comic on Ustream and requesting that he stop that and just draw some Fat Heroes? It’s not much different.

They talk about movies, video games, poop, pop culture, etc. all the time on this VARIETY podcast, week after week. But, WHOA, hang on there, 30+ minutes of webcomics talk is just totally unacceptable all of a sudden?

    What. Ever.

  9. Bibble

Do the show you guys want to do. Your listeners will appreciate you more for it in the long run.

  10. anyolyna

/agree with Adam83 and Bibble. Were here to listen to WHATEVER you guys want to say. Informative, stupid, LAME!, funny, poopy? It doesn’t matter. I think that those who are complaining are NOOBZ.

    /hugz to you all.

  11. Cudd

ya, could you dudes do more on like geopolitics and the election stuff – I mean WTF! Oh . . . what? The podcast is about webcomics, movies, and other geeky stuff? Oh, well then . . . never mind.

  12. Scott

Cudd: I have no idea how to take your comment.

  13. Bearbutt

I was gonna say exactly what I think Cudd is trying to say: The original premise of all this is “The web cartoonists yapping it up”. Well, let’s see… what might they talk about. Maybe…. web cartoons?

  14. Bearbutt

    Oops The=Three

  15. wolfgang

Totally agree with Len. Except the chest pounding and kissing. That was kind of weird.

  16. Albert

i searched Vacilating in google, show 202 was the 4th link from the top lol

  17. Joonas

HAven’t listened yet, but waiting anxiously to listen. Last time you talked about web-comics, I really enjoyed it. Seeing as I follow 11 web cartoonists myself, I will probably love this episode.

  18. Dourgrim

Personally, I loved it. I’m not a gigantic webcomic follower (although I do keep up on the ELR guys’ stuff), but I find any informed and heartfelt conversation between experts on nearly any subject interesting. Good stuff.

  19. Keefe

I totally enjoyed this show. I came into the comments to say so and was very surprised to see what’s here so far. I found your comments to be inspiring and insightful. I’m definitely going to look at my own work in the coming new year and try to see how I could mix it up a bit creatively. I appreciated what Brian had to say about making our work on the web as if it is purposed for print. It’s like we web cartoonists are perfectly happy to be limited by the things Bill Watterson pointed out as sins against comics in his famous speech.

  20. tkide

I just listened to it and it’s a good episode. I like hearing it mixed up from time to time.

  21. NSMike

Personally Scott, I was intrigued to hear you talk about the “mistake” you made with the comic.

I’d say that it wasn’t really a mistake, just what the tone of the Extralife strip was. You live and learn. And then you get Luvs. …Or something.

It was an internal struggle that you hadn’t really realized was going on. Do you make the comic strip for the fans, or for yourself? Making it for the fans means less risk, but also the greatest potential to be the least satisfying. Making it for yourself means you take some big risks, especially if folks don’t like it. But you are more satisfied with what you’re doing. Which is more important to you?

That’s probably a hard question for you to answer, considering in the past you’ve spoken about how it bothers you when things aren’t going well with your audience. I think you’ve done a good job of putting that concern aside, from what I can see. But the fact that you were making your comics this way says there’s still something of that instinct there.

I think it’s going to be hard going forward. You should make sure to remind yourself of what you set out to do each time you sit down to draw a comic.

And I’m not trying to be a jerk, but since you came to this realization, I’d have to say the quality of the strip has definitely and markedly improved. :)

    Good luck to you!

  22. Amy

Personally, I find it interesting to hear 3 artists discussing their craft just on its own merits, even if I myself cannot relate to the subject matter, since if I were to try and do a webcomic it would be badly drawn stick-men. :)

Congrats on the Podcast awards, guys. Well done. You deserve it.

  23. Gene

I knew there were reasons to like Brian other then his rugged good looks. I’m totally behind the whole ’stick figure comics’ being LAME agenda. It drive me crazy that something like XKCD hits the front page of digg every freaking time they put a new comic up and those with actual artistic or written talent are left unnoticed. Drives me insane.

Anyway another awesome episode. As usual. And stuff.

  24. RaXha

FYI Scott: Quantum of solace premiered here in Sweden ( and i presume in the rest of europe aswell) on the 31st of october, sucks to be american right now? ;)

  25. jolap

    eww brian and skyhawk.

  26. missiondeep

nice…someone is pretending to be me and skyhawk.

  27. LucaStefan

    best show in a while

  28. Jill

I really enjoyed this, I’m surprised at the negativity early on in the comments. O.o I especially agree with the part about many webcomic creators not taking full advantage of the fact that they are publishing on the web. There are some that do, but they are definitely few and far between…
