Seriously, Skype was out to KILL us tonight! Brian got killed early, and we brought in Scott Fletcher to round things out. Han Solo getting fresh, Age of Conan, The Mummy3, B and B movie, Cleveland, and loads more. A little Mirror’s Edge to boot!

There just has to be an alternative to Skype
There is. Bring O and Brian in the studio
Make a donation page then do like a 50 hour show and break it down to 25 weeks. What? Bad idea? OK..

I’m telling you folks should try second life VOIP yes yes I know second life and all that but there VOIP quality is 1000x better then skype’s you should give it a go just for VOIP and not for all the other weird things you may find in second life
What a good show. It’s brought some of the memories back (shows <100), such as live testical problems.
Good show – Fletcher is always (always) nice to have on, although I think there needs to be more Brian.
Someone needs to upload that toddler-techno-thing to YouTube. I’ve always said that techno music requires no talent of the singer, now I have proof!
Scott! Why not use Ventrilo?! Easy to set-up, works perfectly… come on!

I listened to the live stream for a little bit, just wondering if Ventrilo (TypeFrag perhaps?) might be a decent alternative. I also wonder if Sunday nights are inherently busier nights for the Internet so the tubes are more clogged.
CJMack: Totally possible on all counts. I am going to consider Vent this week and do some testing with Brian. Vent is great for gaming, but the quality is not quite up to snuff in my experience…also, it has mandatory delay built right in.

The alternative to Skype if you’re only talking to a few people all the time is… Wait for it…
A Typefrag Ventrilo server.
Duh! Even Scott should have thought of that.
But seriously, the delay is miminal, and if you jack the quality up on the server side, it will be a vast improvement over Skype.
Another option, if you want the VOIP-to-POTS capacity, is the Gizmo Project (which is far less expensive than Skype, uses existing International standards instead of Skype’s proprietary and well-known-to-be-unsecure methods, and is good enough that our foreign offices (Europe and South America) use it to call us here in the USA).
Re: Beavis and Butthead live action movie.. I was totally indifferent until you mentioned Seann William Scott. That ended it for me. That guy is the worst thing to be committed to film in years.
Scott, did you ever think it was YOUR internet? Everything was going down at the same time. Everyone would get disconnected from the call and the ustream audio/video would receive massive lag… at the same time.
Maybe Skype ain’t so bad. Maybe your ISP is to fault here. Or maybe some other piece of hardware on your end.
I understand the ‘I won’t even consider that it may be something on my end because I have bought the best of everything’ mindset. I am that way as well.
Just consider it, Scott. Maybe. May be.
Awesome, Obsidian is getting a Maori tattoo (Maori is the Native people of New Zealand)can’t wait to see pictures of it. I have one (because I’m Maori) but I had mine done the traditional way where they tap the tattoo into the skin with an old fashion tapping tool… very sore but worth it.
I know for a fact part of the problem was my ISP (Embarq)
I have spent the past 2 weeks on the phone with them trying to get it straightened out. They will just not admit they have a problem. Even though I have proven it time and time again that it is on their end. They tell me they will look at it and nothing happens…they make me wait 2 days between complaining so I am calling them every other day now until they get sick of me.
Right now Embarq has left me only enough bandwidth to post to forums and that is what I have doing.

I have to say, I think it’s a bandwidth issue, Scott. Skype uses a decent amount of bandwidth to run, specifically upstream, and especially from whoever’s hosting.
As for Ventrilo, Scott, configure your server so that it uses GSM 6.10 @ 44Khz and I don’t think you’ll have any complaints about the quality. I have a server with typefrag configured this way and it sounds perfect.
I only just got round to hearing this, I don’t think I’ve ever started laughing before the 15 second mark. Best editing ever!

I was thinking about O’s desire for a Maori-inspired tattoo over half his body. I think he might be hiding the plans for a Colombian prison in the design so he can break his brother out.
