I’m mixed about it. I mean, the refinements are cool and there are some neat features, but it really doesn’t stray enough away from L4D to provide a new experience, so it’s ‘more of the same’ with a slightly different coating. I guess I’m just jaded from MMO’s, heh.
It feels more like an expansion pack, but what do I know. However I do know it’s really fun and the valve and steam team just took gore and threw it all over the friggen place.
I was a bit late in getting on the L4D wagon (only recently got the original at a discounted price back in September). I downloaded the 2 level demo they offered to LIVE members a couple weeks back and found it fun, but when I saw L4D2 on the shelves yesterday right next to Assassin Creed II, I went for the later. I will likely get it at some point though.
I went for the midnight release and played it all night long with my friend and played through all the maps and it was really fun and difficult because the maps are alot bigger and spaced out. It does seem like an expansion that was costly but in regards to the game its worth the money. All the different weapons give it alot more tactics and with the new special infected it gives the online versus mode a sense of difficulty that is unlike just playing the game by your self. Though ive found one problem, the lag online is incredible but im not sure if it was just me but in all the games ive been in everyone was laggy, maby they have a patch coming to help out or it was the four files i was seeding.
No disrespect intended, and I do enjoy your work Mr. Johnson, however, please, please stop using acronyms instead of actual words for things in your posts. I know your huge following in the gaming world understands everything you write about, but us older folks who enjoy gaming but who might not be as integrated into the field as you, would certainly appreciate not having to research what the heck you are talking about (e.g. “L4D2″) before actually being able to appreciate your blogs. It does get tedious having to look up all the acronyms all the time. Same goes for your podcasts. While they are wonderful and fun to listen to, I feel lost half the time. Whatever happened to the English language? Is it really that difficult to actually spell out a word or phrase anymore? Oh boy, I seem to be spouting off way too much. Maybe I am being unreasonable and maybe I am picking on you in particular at this moment in time, but I get so tired of feeling out of the loop so to speak with current events in the gaming and computer world simply because people get grammatically lazy. You can allow this post or not, but in any case, I hope I get my point across to you. I thank you for your dedication however and appreciate all the efforts you have made in this unique and unusual community.
You think gamers are bad? You should try hanging around some microbiologists or just straight biologists for a while. “So the CUL7 interacts with Rbx1, which adapts for the E2 ligase, adding a Ub to the target…” Or even better, “SDS-PAGE, after the ELISA, is blotted to a PVDF membrane, and mAb’s and pAb’s are added to test for HT vs. BT specificity…”
XD We scientific types are so laaaaaaaazy. Even compared to gamers.
I take you are a scientist! Thank goodness I have no need to read any “American Journal of Microbiology/Biology” publications! I would probably have to shoot myself!
DUDE this game totally rocks =) L4D2 is totally what they should have done with the first one!! Which version are you playing? PC or 360? PC is my flavor and i am totally rocking the zombie apocky-clipse(mad max ref). Man that director is a mean one. He aint giving nothing away…and thats the way a game is supposed to play!! Not like these sissy games that give you everything, L4D2 makes you work for the goal and work as a team. I am a late bloomer to the L4D family and i havent looked back. My poor lock is getting lonely at a certain tower in a northern continent while I dish out some serious payback to those zombies ruining this nice neighborhood whee haa
Ya im playing the shit out of it. you keep declining my invitations to play btw. And I have to disagree with the people who say it’s harder, i actually find its just as challenging as the first game.Partlybecause I’m very good at FPS’s anyways but the I played through the whole game start to finish in one sitting with 3 friends on Expert and it didnt take longer than 6, MAYBE 7 hours.
I’ll buy it when two things happen:
1.) The price goes down to $20. I regretted even paying $30 for the original, and this just sounds like an expansion’s worth of content/enhancements. It’s fun, but (the original) didn’t feel like $30 more value than TF2.
2.) DLC comes out. I bought the PC version of the original with the expectation that there would be free content, like with TF2. Had I known that there would be an amazing TWO updates (that weren’t exactly must-haves anyway), I would’ve gone with the 360 version; at least that could’ve been sold back to Gamestop.
Thanks, I hadn’t gotten my daily dose of pretentiousness yet.
Where do you buy your games? Does Gamestop secretly fund terrorism? I shop around, both brick&mortar and online, and go with whatever has the best deal for ‘game x’. You can’t deny that Gamestop makes it easy to unload a pile of games you don’t want, especially when they offer promotions for trade-ins.

Been playing it basically every spare moment since it came out. Great intense experience.
Versus is tough to finish a map though.
Well I pre-ordered it, just, haven’t found time to actually play it yet. Kinda annoying but I’m sure when i start playing I wont stop for a while.

The first thing i could thinj of when I saw “L4D2″ was “Looking 4 Diablo 2″. I guess it’s weird.

sounds like disgruntled cow just got out of a game. adrenaline still pumping.
Steve looks pretty good in that suit and hairpiece.

@Laserwulf
Your first mistake is buying games at Gamestop.
